Does anyone have experience casting at high altitude (6000 ft -- 1800 m)? I can't seem to find any information on Smooth-On's website. I'm wondering how it affects the silicon and resin. More bubbles? Fewer bubbles? Maybe it might even eliminate the need to use a vacuum or pressure pot? Any and all comments appreciated!
Found this with google: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/casting/message/34207 It's not much but it seems counter to your hypothesis?
Being on a high altitude means that you have lower pressure than those below. It depends greatly on gravity. The closer you are to the core, the heavier/denser things are, including air thus follows pressure. You will get more bubbles if you are not going to use a pressure pot. In Smooth-on's case, twigling's link, a boiling mess.
Yikes, and I thought baking at altitude was challenging. Thanks very much for the link and the info! I did get some Alumilite to test since that's available in my local hobby store. Looks like I accidentally made the right choice.
