Shopping Carry Bags for 72cm Big Boy?

Aug 10, 2022

    1. After an agonizing wait, I finally have my first boy!! I love him!! I want to show him off to the world!!! I'm going to BJDC Texas in 10 days!! All the flailing with like-minded individuals shall be mine!!!

...He's an Impldoll Idol and comes in at a very hefty 72 cms and I don't even know how much he actually weighs but carrying him around in my arms is not going to be feasible.

So...um. Help?? For those of you who also have giant dolls, how do you lug them around? I don't have any other dolls, and I do want to bring him to the convention with me. The carry bags I'm seeing on Amazon or Etsy are all maxing out at 18" and he's a little over 28" xD Does anyone have a seller who they've purchased carry bags from in the past? Maybe one that does custom bags? 8\

I was contemplating getting one of those child carry harnesses, but he won't be very protected (I'm notoriously clumsy and wouldn't want him getting banged around, or heaven forbid losing his wig or some such), and I worry about him being exposed on the trip into the convention center as well.

I don't know if I have enough time for one to come in before BJDC, but would like to purchase one for the future even if that's the case. And for in the meantime...other than a bag made specifically for him, what other means have you used to lug around your bigger children?

      Thank you in advance xD

    2. Go to Best Buy or a Camera store and get a tripod bag.
You will still need a face shield and blanket (baby type) to protect but it will arrive in time and work well. I was going to give you a link on Amazon but the one I bought years ago is no longer in stock. I would call around first so you don't waste gas.

    3. I’m not super sure if u buy online it’ll get in time to you but if you look up any sports duffel bag close to the measurements you need. There’s also Cricut bags too but you probably would have to fold the dolls legs to fit him. They come in cute colors and patterns
Both of these items you can find at your local big chain store/sport store and craft store. So you don’t have to worry about shipping and you can test to see what bags would fit

    4. @animemom & @ellie Thank you both very much, these are excellent suggestions and I will look into both!! 8D

    5. If those bags don't work out, you could try a suitcase? One with wheels? I don't have a doll that big - I bought an SD carrying bag from DollMore that I really like. Dollmore Carrying Bags - they probably have one for your sized doll but it won't be cheap. So I would go with the other suggestions first!

    6. Ooooo, ye, those look really well built too! But at 86$ that would make my wallet cry xD Thank you for the rec, but yeah I'll be hoping some of these other suggestions pan out first lol

    7. With what @animemom said I looked on Amazon and there's a tripod case 35" for like 20 bucks with quick delivery options. If you can't find one locally I'd try that!

    8. I use both carry-on and ukulele bag. I sit the dolls when I use carry-on. Bags for tenor ukulele are usually big enough to carry 70cm dolls. I think bags for other instruments(maybe guitar) are fine too!

    9. Ah, thank you for hunting for one, that's so very kind of you! I'm definitely leaning towards the tripod case, but during my quick (I didn't have much time yesterday) hunt I discovered to my horror that I have another hurdle when it comes to those - his shoulders are also huge!! They're 19cm across, which is about 7.5 inches, and trying to find one that's at least 28 inches long and wide enough to fit his mammoth shoulders is a pain xD

Ooooooo, this is a unique and fun idea!! My partner is a musician, I'm sure he'd get a kick out of me carrying Leander around in an instrument bag too lol. I'll definitely look into those! I'm trying to lean towards bags where his legs are sticking out straight, cause his jeans are tight and trying to fold his legs up that well would be a bit of a pain lol

    10. I use a quilted fabric "weekender" bag with a blanket style pillow my sister made me. I can fit two dolls of that size in a weekender sitting facing each other with plenty room to put either one doll of similar size on top or several smaller dolls. I think I found the bag at TJ Maxx or someplace similar.

    11. Oh, that will definitely come in handy when I have more dolls, thank you for the rec!!!

    12. I ended up getting a tenor ukulele bag! It said that it held ukuleles up to 30 inches, but that must be stretching it quite a bit. Leander is just over 28" standing up, and his head is poking out with his legs straight.

The good thing is, with his legs bent a bit I am able to get him in there and zip it up, the fit is just a bit snug. Success!!!

Thanks everyone again for all their great suggestions, I really appreciate them!
