    2. Turns out we accidentally scheduled this on World Doll Day! So come celebrate with us, LOL!

    3. I cannot get the discord button invite to work.

    4. Hmm. I’ll check on that and fix it! Try this one -

Join the Carolina BJD Discord Server!

if it still doesn’t work I’ll call in help from someone better at Discord.

    5. I didn't know there was another doll group in Nc! I run a doll group on discord and we have meet ups often. o:
      I'll share this event!

    6. Awesome, thank you! We are kind of a casual group in western SC/central NC mostly but after Covid we've not really had any meetups, largely because many of our previous meetup locations are not as available anymore. But I think I've found us at least one location we can use in the future so I'm hoping the Swap Meet kicks off more meets going forward!

I used to also go to the Raleigh meets many years ago, but the drive got to be a bit more than I could always fit in. But we are hoping for people all over NC and SC and anywhere else who wants to come will attend and/or sign up for a sales table! I know there are a lot of doll people around, and with the location so close to Charlotte it should be convenient for anyone who wants to make it a weekend and visit some other things in the area if they choose.

I hope to see you at the Swap Meet!

    7. The Raleigh BJD group you went to has long since disbanded. The one I run is newer and includes all of NC, but most stick to Raleigh. There's a few people in Charlotte but they tend to keep to themselves.

The best meet up I had was a maintenance meet, get your dolls restrung, clean, and all that. I want to host that yearly haha.

    8. That sounds like a super fun meet! Yeah, the groups seem to be pretty fluid as times change and people come and go. We are mostly Charlotte/Asheville/Greenville area with some outside of that range, but haven't really done anything as a full group since the pandemic, just a few random close friends happening to get together.

I'll make sure to keep a closer eye out for your meets - we have been mostly planning on Facebook ourselves.

Also - are you in contact with the Doll and Miniature Museum in Spencer, NC? I've been speaking to the person who does their marketing and emails and such and she says they have a room for meetups! They're pretty tight with the SmartDoll group, and we are also hoping to have a meetup there at some point after the Swap Meet. DM me if you would like her email! They're pretty central in the state so might be a good place for a combined get-together.

    9. We always did our meets at cafe's because it was an average of 4-5 people. 2 of them just announced moving due to job losses and then I moved as well.....we're a little disjointed but I hope some of them check out the 2 meets I discovered.

I would love one big yearly doll meet to connect all the groups, something like a holiday party haha. Come together, there's food, games, Jack Black is also there. Lowkey vibes. I didn't realize there were 2 additional bjd groups in the Carolina's, so we should plan for that if it's something you'd be interested in!

    10. That would be amazing, to have a big joined meet! We have in the past had anywhere from 9-18 or so show up I think, for our big meets, but I'm not sure how many are still around/able to go at this point since it's been so long!

I'm really hoping a lot show up for the swap meet and we can maybe get a good email list and/or a Discord server or something for bigger meets, we could even just use the one set up for this Swap Meet potentially. I'm hoping the word can get out to all the doll people (BJD primarily, but for the swap meet especially I'm spreading the net out to general doll collectors of all types in the area and willing to come to the area.

    11. A few of my Discord members seemed interested in the swap meet! It was something we discussed about doing before but space was always the issue. I'll check in with them again to see if anyone is actually going. I also told my personal friends about it but it was to lukewarm response lol. Just "nice!" responses, unfortunately. Are you going to Animazement? That has a decent BJD group and has helped my discord grow, I'm not going this year so I cant really advertise for that anymore. Can post in the group, too. Oh and BJD Addicts on Fb! That has a larger amount of NC collectors who are more lurkers than group join-ers. Just some ideas!

    12. I’m not going to Animazement but I’m going to see if anyone else I know is. I’m working on other places to advertise but we are getting a pretty good level of interest I think!

    13. The group on Fb allows event sharing so if you are a member, you can post it there!

    14. Wow, we are FIVE weeks out from the Swap Meet!

I need to work this weekend on getting together my stuff to sell. I know we're going to have plenty of resin BJDs for sale, along with plushies, fandom stuff, doll furniture, and off-topic dolls of a variety of types (from play dolls to Blythes, to American Girl, to vintage dolls, and much more)! There's also a 3-D printing guy coming who makes cute figures, toys, and critters, whose prices are IMO super great, so that'll be fun, too!

We will probably also set up a "free stuff" table, so if anyone has some stuff they just want gone they can take or leave things from there. I have a few little things for that table for sure.

    15. The Swap Meet is next Saturday! I hope everyone is getting excited!

      A couple tips:
The main entrance to the building will be our primary entrance. When you come in the doors we will be ahead to your left. If you come in the side doors near the police department, we are just a bit ahead and on the left. There are accessible parking spaces available. Parking is free and there should be plenty of spaces.

There’s not an ATM in the building, so if you plan to use cash be prepared. There is a bank a short drive from the location on Main Street however!

Shopping begins at 11:30! If you arrive a little early and don’t want to help set up there is a small farmers market nearby you might enjoy. Across the street from our location is an art studio and gallery that opens at 11, also.

If you are looking for food before or after, there are several local restaurants on Main Street in Mount Holly and a few fast food options (and fast Japanese and Chinese places) nearby also.

Please let us know if you have other questions!

    16. Oh snap, I'd love to join this group!

    17. So far we have about 16 or so tables full of dolly goodness coming to the meet, and possibly more pending! There will be a LOT of resin for sale, plus clothes, accessories, furniture, wigs and eyes, and plenty of other types of dolls and toys, too!

If anyone is thinking of reserving a table, please do so ASAP if you can, the meet is this Saturday and we are beginning to finalize things. If you suddenly realize while preparing to come to the meet that you DO actually need a table, that's fine, please show up promptly at 11 and we will fit you in.

There will also be space to socialize and a simple diorama for doll photos. I can't wait to see everyone!

    18. Link!

    19. Huge thanks to everyone who came to the Swap Meet! We had a great turnout, and I think everyone had fun from what I could tell. The venue worked out perfectly - AND I think we probably can extend our hours a little next time, to give us more setup time!

I ended up spending more than I made, but I traded a doll for another and added a BJD that's been on my wishlist for ages, and sent two boxes of random stuff no one wanted to a local thrift store.

I'm making notes of improvements for next time, so hopefully this Fall we can begin planning for another Swap Meet for next year. It'd be wonderful if we could make this an annual event! As soon as we have a date in place there'll be a new thread here about it so everyone can plan and save up. I know I need to save up for it!
