Shipping Can't find a box to fit my SD10 girl's box in!

Feb 6, 2011

    1. I know I should have kept the outer box as well as her Nana box, but... I didn't. And now that I have to ship her tomorrow, I can't seem to find a shipping box that will fit her box! Where do you guys find yours?

    2. Try going to a retail store and asking them if they have any larger boxes they don't mind letting you have. You can take a bigger box and cut it down and then just make sure you tape it up really well (I work at a GameStop and have shipped out boxes that were made by cutting down larger boxes, they had at least 2 xb360 systems in them, so pretty heavy and made it from WA state to TX no problem via UPS)

    3. and if all else fails you can take her in her box and go to Fedex or UPS and have them make a box for you. it will cost you about five dollars or so but in a pinch if you really need a shipper this is what you can do

    4. Thanks for the suggestions, that's what I'll do.

    5. You could also go to a store like Walmart and buy the brown thick paper to wrap around her box. I've recieved and shipped a doll box wrapped in this (international and US) and the doll and box were just fine!

    6. Oh, I've never heard of that! I could try that, I suppose...

    7. I just shipped a doll with his inner box but since I didn't have an outer box I wrapped him up in several layers of packing paper... The brown stuff. Works fine! I've had no problems doing it that way.

    8. as long as you have a sturdy box the doll is in and one that wont get crushed then what Vengez and clare say will work. if your doing it this way I would make sure the doll inside is well wrapped in bubble wrap as well. but yes I've done this as well with no problems. Some Doll boxes are strong and others are alittle weaker I guess you will just have to judge which you think will work .

    9. I decided to wrap it in the paper. I think the box will be okay, as long as the shipping people treat it like it says on the box -- Fragile!

I put bubblewrap on her head, thighs, feet, and hands.

    10. Just tagging on with this.
I actually like to keep my boxes in mint condition, and it is extremely unnerving to receive the dolls just wrapped in paper.
Luckily I've never received a doll wrapped in paper where it's been damaged, but I've received two or three dolls where they were the shipping box had a gash in the side or was horribly smashed.
You also would have to worry about water damage more so than you would with a shipping box, so I'd suggest taping the whole thing 360 if you must just use paper.

Lastly, I'd say to always double check with your buyer to make sure it's ok to ship a doll like that.
My boxes are part of the doll for me, most are elegant, well crafted and, to me, should be taken care of.
I assume that I'm not alone on that.

    11. I've shipped and received dolls just in their inner boxes with no issues. I'm like Knibitz, I'm an obsessive boxkeeper and secondhand dolls without boxes bother me for some reason. In the three or four times I've shipped only in the inner boxes, I:
      1) determined it was an extremely hard, sturdy box like a Pipos or a Bobobie or a Soom Teenie Gem box, never something with ledges like a Fairyland box, and never something thin like an Iplehouse or Souldoll box,
      2) made sure the doll was protected,
      3) wrapped it in genuine shipping paper, not just flimsy brown paper,
      4) used a LOT of tape,
      5) wrote FRAGILE!!! all over the box.
As long as you're very careful, use a good shipping service, and insure the thing (if requested), shipping paper is usually okay in my experience. (as long as it's okay with the buyer ( ;) at Knibitz)

    12. I put it in the brown paper, and wrote fragile all over it, and shipped it....

The receiver got it today and said that the box had a bad wrinkle in it, and she was sort of miffed... :( Next time I get a doll, I'm keeping the outer box.

    13. I always use bubble wrap to tightly wrap the doll this helps alot especially if a doll shifts in box. and always use a second shipper box when I can. alot of times dolls on the second hand market wont have original boxes. and sometimes arrive in other dolls boxes. it happens sometimes. I guess when listing a sale post we should start adding in whether original box will be included. just a thought

    14. If you told the buyer before you shipped it out, then they kinda knew what they were getting in for.
Don't beat yourself up about it, just chalk it down to one mistake and bad luck with the postal company :)

    15. I would also be pretty miffed if I bought a doll and I received it only in the decorative box and paper (no matter how many layers). At the very least I'd want the box to be wrapped in bubblewrap (taped on securely) under the paper to keep the box relatively safe - because I consider the original box part of the set. The seller should definitely communicate with me if she is unable to find a fitting outer box, so I know what to expect (I might even decline buying the doll). However if I get a doll in pieces to save on shipping, I'm content with the parts being well wrapped and put in one random box.

Though as a faceup artist I have before got heads that were only put in their decorative boxes and paper. I don't mind that since everybody has different levels of comfort when it comes to shipping their dolls, and if they feel okay sending and receiving their doll like that, I don't make a fuss about it :)

    16. I agree, I recently received a doll body in just the box wrapped in paper and this was from an international sale! There was a big gash in the lid of the Soom box which renders it useless. The buyer didn't inform me that it wouldn't be in a proper shipping box so I had a small heart attack when it arrived. Thankfully the doll wasn't harmed but I am not happy with people sending dolls in just their boxes; I always endeavour to pack the dolls I send into shipping boxes, it's just not safe without; especially if you're sending overseas.

    17. I once received a doll in it's decorative box, but it arrived in perfect condition as the seller had wrapped the entire box in several layers of bubblewrap first then put the brown paper over the top. I actually have this dilemma myself at the moment, I have two msd girls I want to sell but only have their decorative boxes and I can't for the life of me find a shipper box that will fit them!
