My friend EssieKL is in the process of making a new doll company, and she's asked me to help her with making dolls and such, wee ^.^! Now... I havent sculpted since.. like.... early high school (I'm 21 now, so it's been a while XP), so I was, and still am pretty nervous about such an involved project. We are both working on our own sculpts right now (pokes Essie, and tells her to post her progress as well XD), and so far.. we're working on our heads. Here's my head "Laviniya" so far...... She still needs eyelids, and stuff, and I need to work out some symmetry issues... but here's my first sculpt! Any comments, crits, advice would be VERY appreciated. Oh! And the reason the clay is fuzzy is because LaDoll clay, I guess has fibers of some sort in it. It works well, so I dont care, it'll be sanded out later XD. UP NOSE =D
More pictures! Still some minor issue to work out.. she's pretty odd looking. I hope when all is done, and casted, she wont look totally bizarro painted
i reallllyyyy like it, it looks quite professional, especially for a first sculpt :3 only, the lips seem to have lost definition in the second set of photos? o___o but that could be personal prefrance, i'm kind of a sucker for the fuller wide lips that she has going :3 will definately be watching this ~
It is a reeeeeallyyyy good head !!! You are lucky to work thinking it's for a new doll compagny, I'd like to do the same, but it's too hard to open shops in France to this alone..... !
Its true, the upper lip lost some detail. When I add ears, I might try to work back into the lips a little
She looks really cute so far! I love the shape of her eyes and her nose. The only thing I would change is maybe make her cheeks a little rounder from the front view and maybe make the mouth a little less wide. Looking great!
Yeah.. I was thinking maybe her cheeks looked sort of sharp. She looks like the way I draw.. which is odd, long faces, longer noses and somewhat wide mouths.... (please ignore the gummy musculature, its an old drawing XD) I think I'll try and make her mouth a little smaller though. I keep trying to think of what she'll look like casted and painted.. and the larger mouth might not translate well.
She looks a really good! Not overly cute or beautiful or anything, just really normal. :3 I like her! I can't wait to see her finished. She looks like someone you could befriend. By the way, I think her mouth is excellent. I like wide mouths. :P
ya know she would be a helluva cute he. i love the wide mouth, my kamyu has a wide mouth..and SUPER big lips... and i lvoe it. i think your doing an amazing job 33
The finish designed look for her is a little wild for me, but otherwise the head is really nice. ^_^ Good luck with finishing her.
I really like the overall shape and proportions, especially the mouth. You've got a lot of character there; don't lose it. The chin seems very angular and too receding, so I think the lower jaw needs more definition. I'm watching your progress! --MW
Perhaps you have already fixed this, but in the 'up nose' shot, the cheeks look like they are flat and both on a plane. _____^_____ Try touching both your cheeks/cheekbones right under your nose, with your hand touching skin all the way across. When you pull your hand away, keeping the shape similar, you'll see it is quite rounded. Aim a little more towards that, if you wish. Ann in CT
