CANCELLED Doll North presented by Anime North, May 22-24, 2020

Feb 2, 2020

    1. Hi folks!

Doll North has had some major programming changes, but I wanted to post here to let everyone know that we're still going forward after some staffing changes!

Doll North won't have a DN exclusive badge this year, so registration to Anime North is required. We're working to get caught up (the staffing changes have left us behind more than we'd like) but we're aiming to have solid announcements all through Feb for everyone regarding dealers, the swap meet, masquerade, and panels.

We're also looking for a few more department heads! We always love reliable volunteers, but if you feel you're up to being in charge of organizing a section of our programming, we'd love to have you! You can email us at [email protected] if you'd like to work with us, or if you have any specific questions!

You can also find our official announcement and dicsussion page here: Doll North presented by Anime North

(I will do my best to keep an eye on this forum post as well, but may be slower to reply here.)

    2. Will Doll North be in the same location as previous years, Crowne Plaza, or in one of the other hotels?

    3. Is Doll North a good event to buy dolls at?

    4. I read on the Doll North Facebook page that the event will be held in Delta hotel opposite from the congress centre!!! Directly accessible to Anime North participants! Delta Hotel is always buzzing- colourful during Anime North. Doll North will really feel like part of Anime North. I think Doll North will attract many potential new collectors, fans and visitors.

Having said that, tickets or passes to Anime North must be purchased early. Puts pressure on me to book early if I want to attend. I was suppose to attend last year but bailed out at the last minute. Some personal problems. This year, I am very interested because of the location and it’s really Anime North!

    5. I went last year as a regular attendee and I was able to buy many cool things. I bought an MSD sized BJD, some Pico Dragon Kits, lots of random little things because the garage sale tables are just full of random clothes, accessories and BJDs. I primarily collect Monster High dolls and there were MH artists there too. This year I just applied to have my own table ^_^ I'm excited the location changed, I think it's right across the street from the Convention, which will boost the traffic hopefully!

    6. I am nervous about the corona virus this year. I could not convince myself to register for the event. I did voice my concerns on the FB page. The admin replied very quickly:

"Hi Ivy. We're all worried, but at the moment the CDC does not think we have any reason to change travel or plans for Canadians/Canada. We can only make plans based on the information we have, and Anime North will be working with city officials as the virus progresses. At the moment there is no expectation for AN to be affected, but you should always consider your own personal health and complications when making plans."

My health is alright but my mom is old and in frail health. If I attend Doll North with a yard sale table, she will have to help me. You need 2 people to manage a table so that one person can step aside when necessary. We are planning on moving out of Ontario to Saskatchewan later this year, so this could be the last year for me to attend Anime and Doll North. I first visited Doll North 11-12 years ago and Anime North as far back as 15 years ago when it was not crowded. If I move out of province, it will be hard to come back for these events. I am weighing my options very carefully. If I miss this year's event, it will not be for many more years before I can attend. :|

Hihihihi...........an update......I bought 1 ticket to Anime North on Saturday and applied for Doll North yard sale table for Saturday. So, I'm attending this event. :XD: Already thinking of my own outfit and what dolls to bring. My mom won't be involved. It's unwise, her health is too weak. I'd find help and company some other way.

    7. I was approved for an artisan table and I actually canceled with them because I didn't want to risk it :( I hope everything works out and the event goes as planned for you! <3

    8. Anime North had been cancelled. I assume Doll North is also not going ahead. I decide that it is not a good idea to meet up under the current state of events.
