Hey Canadians! I have a quick question about shipping to Overseas (Specifically Germany.) Has anyone had to ship a doll overseas to Germany? I have to do it for my transaction and according to Canada Post it's going to cost at LEAST 97 dollars. However, I was estimating the weight (I put in 20 pounds) but I put in the dimensions and everything and that's the least amount it gave me. Anyone have any tips for sending overseas, or what they would do to cut back on costs, or how much it usually costs them? Maybe 20 pounds was too much. How much do the doll packages (for a 67 cm Unidoll, let's say) weigh? Sorry if that's a dumb question. Any information would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
No idea about canada or shipping, but hocrap, 20 pounds was WAY too much. My kid delfs probably arent even a pound each, i dont think. Maybe check th eunidoll site for an estimate of how much tht doll would weigh, then add a little and use that. I'm pretty sure that wouldnt exceed 4 or 5 pounds at absolut emost @_@
for SD size you're looking at about 10. Depending on how you ship it it can cost between 40-100ish before taxes. Depending on the type of doll (some are heavier than others) and what else is all in the box, how much insurance you're putting on it and how you choose to ship it, the cost will vary. Expedited is not as expensive but it can take hella long time to get there, but at least you can insure up to $1000 max. Surface is...well....iffy. Slow, but no insurance tracking or anything and the possibility of the box being destroyed en route increases.
Ho, I guess 20 pounds WAS too much. Hahahah! Oops. Thanks for the recommendations. Also thanks to the mod who moved this thread for me. XD
I recently got a quote for my Delf El (SD) in his box and he weighed about 4kg which is around 9lbs. Expedited is cheaper than Express, just takes a bit longer, but I think that's for within NA only? You'd probably have to send it EMS. The highest quote I got was for NA only, from Atlantic Canada to California which was $63 for Express. So yea, International is going to be pricier. It'll probably be around $85-$90. Yay for shipping large expensive boxes? xD
Oh well thank GOD it's not 20 pounds. That would have been awful. But yeah, once I shipped this huge weird shaped box to Germany and it was only like, 40 dollars. God, that was in 2003. It's crazy how shipping prices have gone up. *shakes head* Thanks for the tip, niku!
Last year I shipped an MSD out to Italy and it cost about $80 and that was SURFACE shipping. Air mail would have cost me over $100 for some reason. T3T Canada Post is the devil. I would definitely check out DHL or other couriers and compare the rates.
I know, I know, another customs question. However, I just sent a package to Germany. I marked it as a gift but I did mark it for 600 dollars just in case it got lost. I told this to the girl I sold the doll too and she got very upset. Now I would never want to send it without being insured because if it got lost, I'd feel bad and she'd be out 600 bucks. In your personal experiences, if it was something personal from a person to person, marked as a gift but insured, would it get dinged for customs? I would think it wouldn't if it's a gift from not a company, but from an individual. What are your thoughts? I really want to put this girl's mind at ease because she's upset with me but I did not want it to be lost. She wanted me to send it cheapest possible but the cheapest possible wouldn't have included any insurance and would have taken a long time. Help me ease mine and her worries.
Well, German customs aren't easy. They basically don't care if you write "gift" or anything else on it. They buyer will still have to pay custom fees, even if it was a gift. Yeah, stupid rules, I know. The custom fees in germany are about 25% of the value marked on the package. Bad thing is, that german customs filter out almoust every package, specially from America or Asia. Sometimes you are lucky and your package slips through, but in general the customs grab it and make you pay. For this reason, many buyers from here ask to note a smaller value on the package in hope to pay less, what is pointless, cause you have to bring a paypal or creditcard printout to the customs, to prove how much you have paid for the item. I hope this helps you
Ouch. That makes me scared. I wonder why they do that. :/ I really hope this is one of the ones that slips by...
