Can you ship MSC using Priority mail?

Aug 2, 2007

    1. ok, I want to ship some MSC cans, but... can they be sent Priority?

      Is it a safe way to ship aerosols? Or what would be the best way? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

    2. Mine have come via air mail, took around 6 days or so and before ive had them come normal airmail, taking about the same time, so not to long, not sure if thats priority, but arrived in good time.. I have had about 4 or 5 deliveries of MSC, no probs at all. Tho have never postd any myself, hope the info helps ^_^

    3. You're not supposed to ship them any way that goes into an airplane, because of the change in pressure. Usually what used to be called 3rd class, or media rate in the US, now I think is Parcel post, goes ground all the way. First class is either all or partially airborne. Priority also gets put into planes.

      UPS ground would probably be ok, but put a lot of packing around the cans, as small boxes get tossed around with huge heavy boxes and the transit dings can be numerous.

      That said, I know a company that routinely sends out its aerosol cans via Priority, from the mid-west to East Coast. I guess they haven't had a problem yet.

    4. Thank you for your replies!

      I heard about many people saying they ship them airmail, but I'm concerned about the safety issues involved ^^;;

      Ah, then I guess it would have to be Parcel Post!! At least it will give me a peace of mind ^^

      And about Media mail, you're not supposed to ship anything that is not books.

      But yeah, Parcel post is available XD

      Thanks a million! *gives cookies to both mystical-maz and hobbywhelmed* :D

    5. P.S. You can send me the cookies Overnight.....

    6. i'll send you cookies Hobby! the cans are for me, and any help getting them scores big points!

    7. You can send it UPS Ground, but technically you are not supposed to send it via the regular mail service because it's explosive (a pressurized can). I used to sell it a few years ago, and so I did a lot of checking with the mail service and they advised I use UPS Ground because it will always stay out of the air. Regular mail service does not have any guarantee of "ground only."

      If you use regular mail, be careful because you could get fined or in big trouble, especially if the can goes off in an airplane.. and that might also cause an accident.

      Info from one aerosol company's site:
      " *UPS Ground Service Only* All Aerosol Cans and some adhesive products will be shipped UPS Ground Service to our Continental US Customers Only. Due to Federal Regulations, we are unable to ship Aerosol Cans Using UPS or USPS Expedited Air Services. This Means No Postal, International or Air Shipments of Aerosol Products or Adhesives. The Products included In this Catagory will be so noted in their Detailed Description.
      *UPS Ground Service Only* "

    8. Yeah, when I bought msd from junkyspot a couple of months ago, they shipped it ups ground. I think that's the best method, a little more than usps, but way safer. ^^

    9. So,it's impossible to get a MSC overseas??If it is,i'm doomed to never being able to do face-ups(mostly cause all the other products like this i have seen so far have some sort of oil in them).:|

    10. Wow, yikes!
      Thanks a million, Dollyholic and PrincessAI436!

      Exactly what I was looking for, the safest method ^^
      *switches to UPS ground then*

    11. There ARE still boat-based methods of international shipping... but boy are they slow! What do they call it, "Parcel Rate"? "Slow-boat-to-China"? ^^ Something?

      Thank you guys for posting & answering this question so thoroughly. I've been kicking myself for not bringing back any spray from the Volks party in New York-- I chickened out because of the whole plane/aerosol thing. But it sounds like my instincts were right, so I get to stop kicking myself now. *whew*

    12. SAL? I think that's the one. I'm not sure, but maybe ^^;

    13. I've had it airmailed before but it's hard to find someone who will ship it overseas. If the package gets court at customs there could be problems, as you are not to transport aerosols by plane. ><;;

    14. Actually I heard from someone at the airport post office that SAL is discontinued. I have not verified this but... that is what he told me.

      The reason you see aerosols come in from overseas is that they cannot control what comes in to the US by air. I heard they use stronger air cargo holds than domestic flights. Some mail actually flies on passenger flights. Scary huh? I would not want to be responsible for some fire onboard if my MSC blew up.

      The other thing is, I have heard technically MSC and MR Color is not legal to sell in some states. I sent some to Canada once and it was confiscated. It's very very strong and toxic stuffies! :fangirl:

    15. SAL isn't discontinued. I just bought something the other day from Hong Kong and that was still an option. Ship transport of goods is alive and well and very cost-effective for manufacturers overseas. As long as the contents aren't time-sensitive, or will decay, etc. If ship-only transport was discontinued, we've got a lot of seaports doing nothing!

    16. Have you tried doing SAL from USA? I think that is what they meant.

      Again, I need to check more. But they told me i can't SAL from USA out...

      I hope it's not true!
      Catrina

    17. Yeah, my po said SAL is out too, I guess we can't do it but other countries can?

    18. I've mailed my MSC via UPS ground overseas and it got here safely.
      As noted before, airplane + msc = bad stuff.
      I'm guessing it crossed on a boat~ <3

      I am also in Canada, but mine didn't get confiscated.. maybe because it was in a box
      full of my other junk I also needed to send? O_o

    19. Catrina's right, there may be restrictions on MSC in some states/countries.... I think California is one of them, too, even though I seem to see plenty of that stuff being owned around here. Perhaps it's just limited to certain retailers or something.

    20. I was trying to mail a can of MSC to a faceup artist who will be doing my dolls, but they refused to ship them, as they are potentially explosive. I know other people have sucessfully shipped MSC (i got mine from asia and EMS doesnt care, i guess) and i was wondering who/how/what they did?

    21. Ground postage versus air is usually a safe way to go for aerosols, and some people simply lie about what the package contains. ^_^;

    22. i was hoping there was an honest way about it... >.<

    23. UPS ground shipping within the US is perfectly fine for MSC. I know gals on a different forum send MSC UPS ground. It's a little more expensive, but it's the safest way to transport MSC other than driving there yourself.

    24. UPS ground would be the safest and the best option for shipping MSC cans ^^

      I have both sold and bought MSC, and UPS ground was always used. It's a bit more expensive than regular USPS mail, but it's worth it for both safety and your peace of mind.

      EDIT: If it helps, I didn't have a clue at first, so I began asking around and started this thread about shipping MSC:

      http://www.denofangels.com/forums/showthread.php?t=156107

    25. It's illegal to ship aerosol cans via any kind of service unless you have a retailers permit to ship it regularly, even via UPS ground (I checked on this).
      I suggest you order it directly from like HLJ.com or Volks USA and have them ship it directly to your face up artist, so that you don't have to worry about it.

    26. SAL stands for "Surface Air Lift" - so I'd say it's partially airmail. And thus probably not suitable for aerosols.

      I still wonder how the various doll agents and such get their MSC... I don't think it's sent by truck all the way from Japan to for instance Europe... But more expensive kinds or air-transport includes sending things within the pressure cabin (like if you're shipping a live pedigree cat to a new owner for instance) - Perhaps that's what they use?

    27. So if you buy MSC in Japan, you can't bring it home with you?

    28. The reason all that MSC gets through from Japan, is pure luck! So many small packages go through that customs just doesn't catch most of them. They usually only home in on odd shaped or larger packages, such as dolls, or those without customs forms.

      And regarding bringing aerosol cans back from Japan with you, you might want to check with your country's flight regulations. You might be safe just putting it checked luggage, I mean what do people do with their aerosol deodorants?
