So I’ve had QUITE a time finding exactly what I want for a doll of mine who has a teeny tiny head for his scale (5-6 on a mature slim MSD lol), so styles with the level of maturity I want in the neon blue I want just do not seem to exist. HOWEVER! I found an old stock Monique synthetic mohair wig in white blonde that is very nearly what I want and only needs a little styling! Synthetic fibers usually need heat to be dyed though and I don’t know how high a heat these wigs can take. Anybody made an attempt before? I’m loathe to experiment since these wigs are an endangered species.
Monique synthetic mohair wigs have low heat tolerance compared to other synthetic fibers I've seen common for bjd wigs. Synthetic mohair is a very fine fiber and easily melted and deformed. I would say the threshold is possibly not above 130 F based on my experience. A synthetic wig can be dyed (more like toned) without heat using acrylic color/ ink suspended in isopropyl alcohol. The results vary a lot based on materials including the fibers. I will say that it may be technically possible but since the color you want is very bright it seems like it's not the best idea. Is there any possibility you could order a commission of the wig style you like in the right color? Good luck!
Yes. I have dyed a white blond monique gold wig into silver gray color because it was the color I needed. Use Ipoly dye or rit dyemore because they work on synthetic fiber and monique gold is synthetic. Go slow, easy and low heat (no more than 120), and dip for 3-5 second and dip in cold bath, check. Repeat until you get desired shade.
