[mods - if this is too off-topic please delete] I've had it with Photobucket. I've had a paid account with them for two years and despite being a paying customer, they have removed some of my photos on several occasions. Looking at some of the threads on DoA, I noticed several photos of nude or partially nude dolls have been replaced with the dreaded "violated terms of service" from Photobucket. These are some of the photos I had removed: - scans from a manga depicting a (very mild) sex scene with no "bits" on show - photos of a nude barbie doll - which I uploaded for a potential buyer! - a photo of my SD13 girl's naked bust, which was needed to show a friend what a L-bust looks like - photos of my 18-month-old cousin in the bath. What do they think this is - child porn?? I've lost two hard drives through crashes already and I need to have a safe place to backup my photos. I would really appreciate any suggestions for an alternative photo hosting service. I'm willing to pay a yearly fee, I just want to know my photos will be safe from some overzealous censor.
If your willing to pay for an account you might want to check out Smugmug.com it's used by professional photographers to host their pictures. While it is often used to then sell these photo's it is a user friendly system. My boyfriend hosts his photo's there. Zilch.smugmug.com The best thing about it is the privacy it offers. hope that helps
I like www.flickr.com It's simple and there are hundreds of photography groups you can join, including several BJD groups. It is free, but if you want unlimited photo hosting, you can by $24 a year for it.
Also, if you've got a Gmail account (and shame if you don't) then you have a picasa web album (picasaweb.google.com). Just another option.
Personally I use Imageshack.us and I'm very fond of it. If you register (which is free) then you can also make a history of your pictures, a bit like Photobucket so. ^^
I do have a gmail account and completely forgot about Picasa! Thanks for all the suggestions , I will check their ToS carefully before picking one.
if you don't care about having an album, a quick upload for posting online is www.allyoucanupload.com. you don't have to log in. i love it. i think there's an album/account option too.
Im glad I found this the past month I have had about 5 pictures blocked by photbucket ...I also pay a premium rate I felt furious they were 3 of my tubby elves nude ...one of a doll Im selling nude , one of my dolls in the sculpted stage ..and a rough drawing of a balljoint doll body I was furious ..I feel as though I was doing something wrong..like it was porn or something I am in the process of removing my pictures now and I wont be renewing my subscription I have used flikr for ages and didnt realise I could use the images the same as photobucket so thats made my mind up
I 3rd flicker, as a photographer I was always peeved by the loss of image quality that occurs sometimes in photo bucket. Though the auto sharpening flickr uses can get a little annoying I still prefer it over photobucket.
I do prefere the layout and picture quality at Flikr I used one of Flikrs photo printing services a couple of weeks back too I had a Sleeping Elf Witley Wood Elves ..book printed , all of the pictures I have of my Elves being sculpted .And wig samples and styles , outfits ..I wanted a book I could show customers at exhibitions ...its difficult trying to explain the concept of BJDs to the dolls house collector LOL ..they were printed off in the form of a soft back book ...and the result is stunning I have a wonderful format book .it honesly bought tears to my eyes .I will be using them again thats for sure for that ...and the Moo cards , great for business too
Flickr is my god. 3 It's not perfect, but I love it to bits. It's perfect for my purposes, anyway. ^^
I'm a Flickrwhore too! Been with Flickr for nearly 4 years now, and have no intention of switching. It's very user friendly, and you have the options of making photos private/public. There's a whole host of groups on Flickr too, so it makes it more like a commuity should you wish to be social. Otherwise, it serves as a photo storage facility pretty well. Would recommend you go with the paid account as it's pretty much unlimited uploads then. You do need to have a yahoo account though.
I get kinda mad at photobucket too. your account can be totally private, but they still delete it! But imageshack.us is good too. =3
I was recently in a similar situation. I've used Photobucket for years and finally threw in the towel a few months ago. Not only for deletion of photos, but all the crazy ads and whatnot. Just TOO much. Even though I've had a Flickr account for a long time, I really hadn't taken the time to fiddle with it. Now that I've begun using it as my primary pic host...I really love it. Guess I didn't realize you could post photos on boards from there...just assumed it was for storage/viewing only. But uploads are fast and posting pics are easy. Best of all is the lack of advertising.
okay I have a question would an image host like flicker work, and what I mean by "work", is have the image actually show up within a post. thanks, ~White_Rabbit85
and for those of you who dont know ...like me untill I read this thread LOL when you look at your image on Flikr http://www.flickr.com/photos/sleepingelf/2482092257/ across the top of the bar see the little icon that says all sizes click on that ..it will open up scroll down I go to Img URL ..Copy ...and add the link to the Inset Image facility here ...and away you go Im getting most my images off Photo bucket now and adding them to my Flikr when my account need renewing ..they can forget it
keep in mind that if you're not a paid member of Flickr not only anyone else but also including YOU will be able to view only the limitation number they have about photos from your uploads...I was a paying member and when I skipped my payment this year they have hidden the rest of the pictures after a limitation number...Now I will be able to view those pictures again only after I pay for my account or delete a few of the newer pictures...if you just need to upload pictures a fast way like PhtBckt, imageshack.us is pretty close to that without the censorship(quite yet)....
A friend just started up a free photo hosting service... donno how good it is, but thought i'd mention it. http://stay-still.com/index.php
Here's a list of some new places online to use for storing your pictures and sharing: http://www.oosah.com/ http://www.flektor.com/ http://www.bluestring.com/welcome.jsp http://photie.com/ http://www.box.net/ http://www.smugmug.com/ http://www.webshots.com/ http://www.overpic.net/ http://www.bubbleshare.com/ http://www.villagephotos.com/
Hopefully *fingers crossed* DoA will allow members to have their own image albums soon! http://www.denofangels.com/forums/showthread.php?p=3326024
I've started a new Flickr account and uploaded pics there, but I honestly can't figure out how to post pics from that account into the gallery here without violating Flickr's terms of service. They say that your pics must link directly back to Flickr...? On Flickr: "Community Guidelines specify that if you post a Flickr photo on an external website, the photo must link back to its photo page. " What exactly am I missing here? I tried posting the HTML into a thread here, but that didn't work at all. :edit: Never mind, found the answer. vB code is tricky!!
I will have to look at some of the alternatives to Photobucket AND Flickr. Despite coding nude doll pics as moderate, my account was complained about and restricted. I have had it. Do I honestly need to join Deviant Art or something? This is ridiculous....she is a DOLL not a naked person.
WHOT O_O! I know we can store pictures at LJ but I don't know how their policy works. But that's horrible! I have some photo's deleted by Photobucket I think it's weird since I thought my pics were private and they wouldn't touch it. X( I was so wrong!
Has anyone been having problems with Photobucket today? I tried to get into it and immediately some anitspyware program started running. It was forcing me to buy this program claiming my machine was infected with several email worms, about 47 in all. After refusing it twice, it shut down my machine and I could not get anything but a blank screen. Fortunately, I have a back-up machine, brand new, new on the internet before. I downloaded my files. I wanted to upload some photos on this forum so I went to photobucket again. BIG MISTAKE!. It did the same thing saying viruses on my machine. Now this is a brand new computer. There are no viruses here as I have not been anyway. This is the first site I visited to see, first if my photos from photobucket that I have been downloading for over a year are still here, which they are and to see if others are having problems. If I cannot use photobucket as their site might be infected or they are allowing this company to impose their anti spy ware program on everyone, what other programs can I use to put photos here? I am really upset! And hubby is furious as he has to re-format and rebuild my other computer. As you all know, hours of work!!!!
OMG that happened to me, totally freaked me out, it said my computer was infected, and there were email worms, and trojan horse programs trying to hack into my computer, i shut it down immediately, and installed a new anti-virus program, and scanned everything, including my pictures all afternoon. so far my computer is still working, i hope i will not be hacked into...... eeeeeks!
Sorry to here about that! You could use www.imageshack.us I've used it often in that past. And I hope that it sorts out for you soon. I'm scared to go on photobucket now. o.O
Thank you for the information and help! Hubby got one computer up and running with some of my programs. I am just furious that "photobucket" has this virus! I will try imageshack.us and I hope that will be a safe place!
I have a pro account on flickr, and I think it's more than worth the $25/year. You're allowed to post photos on other sites as long as the image links back to the photo's flickr page, and I have a Firefox bookmarklet that auto-generates BBCode so I can post photos here easily. With a pro account there's no limit on the number of photos I can upload and they allow me to upload extremely large files. I'm not sure what all restrictions are on the free accounts, but if you upload and share a lot of photos the pro account is totally worth it IMO.
Just a follow-up on my troubles with Photobucket. I received an email back from them giving me a site in order to clear out the virus that I received from their site. They say it has been located and now fixed. So that means others have experienced the problem and they think it has been resolved. In the meantime, I opened an account with Imageshack. I don't find it as easy to use but now I have a back-up. My computer is clean again and now it is just trying to get all my files and programs back. What a hassle!!!
It's good to hear that your com is working again at least, off topic, but my other com got a virus a while back, it took 3 and a half hours to boot it up and go to yahoo, I haven't been on it since...
this isn't really related to the OP per se, but I am going to butt in and ask if anyone knows of any other free image hosting services with bigger monthly bandwith than photobucket's (25gb/month)? I know it's probably impossible to find, but I like to keep all my images in one place, so anonymous services like tinypic aren't what I am looking for. I have a flickr account, but as far as I know flickr requires you to always link back to their site, which I don't like either. I am currently stuck in a spot where I have to keep two separate photobuckets because I started nearly running out of the monthly bandwith on my main one, and this is such a hassle. I really wouldn't like to have to pay for photobucket because I could just get a domain for that price, but then I'd be stuck with a domain AND a photobucket with too little bandwidth.
i was on photobucket yesterday, uploading photos i didnt get anything comeup, after hearing about the virus i did a full scan with two different programs and they both found nothing on my comp, still i am a bit worried, have many other people had this problem, does it effect everyone who goes on there???
Personally I pay 26 USD every six months and upload to my own domain. Save time, hassles, and the TOS notices that I have somehow hosted something "against their terms of service". No more red exes where once were pics of cuddlying boys.
If you have Comcast internet/email, you can also get free webspace. It's what I use and I love it; you need an FTP program though. I use the horribly outdated but still perfectly functional WS_FTP LE 6, and can upload things much easier and faster than Photobucket without worrying about whether or not they think it's obscene. =# And I've never seen the server go down.
If you use Picasa, how do you link the pictures to be embedded in the page here? Every time I try to use the direct link the forum ignores the tag.
i have now got myself a flicker account, alot simpilier and easier and cleaner than photobucket, wish i had used it before,no more photobucket for me
i love flicker ,i just started a new account last week its great and easy to use,no dodgey virus ads poppin up all over the place like photobucket,im dititching them and staying with flicker for good
I figured out the Picassa thing. For anyone else curious: -View the photo you want to post. -Select "Link to this Photo" on the right. -Change the "Select size" to Medium or Large -Check the Hide album link box. -Copy the text from the "Embed image" box - Locate the quoted URL in the middle of that text that ends in JPG. It will look something like this: http://lh4.ggpht.com/_hLZFd2HhmxA/SYfGRnDWVTI/AAAAAAAAAC4/SkKJ1jzROMM/s400/IMG_8090.JPG -Put around the URL and your photos will now show up or click the Insert Image button and past the image URL into there.
