Can International buyers purchase from Taobao?

Sep 26, 2007

    1. Hi!

I've stumble across the taobao site and it's like a chinese Ebay...
I saw BJD stuffs there that are cheap or cost less than what I've found in ebay. And I like to buy some shoes and clothes from there
Since the website is in chinese I barely understand it when I used Online translator.

      Here are my question,

Can I buy from a Taobao seller?

Are Taobao sellers can ship internationally?

Is it safe to buy there?

      That's all!

      Thanks!! ^__^

    2. hmm i've ordered from TAOBAO once so i can't say much.

ERM but most of them speaks chinese and types in chinese and prolly doesn't understand english LOL

ER you may ask them this

      请问你会英语吗?

      (do you know english)

    3. I want to buy a shoes and clothes from there I hope there's someone who can help me to understand the website...

    4. Well, even if you know Chinese language, it's still very hard to make a transaction with them due to their totally different payment methods. They usually don't accept PayPal.:(

I wish you Good Luck! =)

    5. It all depends on the seller, there is a little icon under the headline that is 至, and after that says where it ships. Use an online translator to see where it is, but I really wouldn't reomend buying from there unless someone who knows chinese can help you.

    6. Arghh Taobao is frustrating for people outside of China.

Sellers usually don't accept paypal or credit card, and Taobao works mainly from bank transfers from banks in China. That and they usually don't ship internationally : (

      Maybe there are shopping services?

    7. really?? it's really exclusive to chinese residence only..

      that's too sad... T_T

    8. I was wondering about ordering from Taobao, too, but most doll sellers on there don't speak much English. x_o Thing is, even though I can more or less [less, probably xD] read and type in Chinese, there doesn't seem to be a paypal or credit card option. o_o;; My plan is to pretty much get my relatives to order for me, next time I'm visiting in China. XD

    9. Yeah, credit cards aren't really that popular in China. Most doll owners in China have to commission people with credit cards/paypal to order for them because they don't have it themselves X__X;;

    10. I see... Well there are really a lot of cheap dollie items there!

I hope I could buy some stuffs there... There also people offering Face up commission that costs around 40-100 yuan... around $7-$15 I think...

and there's a lot of cheap but gorgeous gothic and punk clothes...

    11. Well, for face-ups, you could try http://www.bariah.cn/

      They're a Chinese faceup group that do these positively gorgeous faceups [check their site gallery under "doll studio"] for about 150RMB, if I'm not mistaken. I'm not sure about their English, though. ^^;;

    12. I to am trying to get some things off this site but I'm finding it hard to get in contact with the seller. My translator is near useless so I am trying to get someone who speaks and writes Chinese to help me...not that I have found anyone to help me yet. I'll let you know if I have any luck!! :)

    13. Be careful when ordering from TaoBao - while there are lots of great sellers, there is also quite a high chance of being scammed if you aren't familiar with who's 'safe' to order from and who's not... and it'd very difficult to get your money back as I don't think TB has a protection policy (even if they did, you probably wouldn't be able to wade your way through the details unless you're fluent in chinese).

    14. Thanks for the heads up hun!!

I only wanted to get a doll from one company. They were supose to have an English site soon but that never happened. I think something with the English speaking Rep fell threw. If I can get someone who speak Chinese locally to help me out I'm sure my transaction will go smooth.

    15. okay..i deserve to be shot and all but
      does HK buyer is considered as 'international' buyer as well? ^^;;

    16. Things from TB are really hard to obtain for those who are not fluent in chinese. More so written than spoken since everything is done through online chat.

I've ordered a fair few times through TB, but only through sellers who accept Western Union Money Transfer. For those who don't, I really don't know how else to pay them as I have no relatives in China and don't have a china bank account.

If anybody offers a shopping service for TB, I'd love to be in on this!

All my transactions from TB so far (and again, it's been quite a few) have been very smooth. Perhaps I've been lucky, but with online transactions, it's always a hit and miss thing. You never really know who's going to scam you next, hey? Trade with care, but sometimes care is not enough ;p

At any rate, you can try asking them if they can accept Western Union Money Transfer, and if the seller don't know what it is but is open towards it, just let them know that they can retrieve the money from their local post office. Western Union can be done online through our normal credit card systems. So it's quite convenient - with a fee, of course.

Oh and most of them do ship internationally. Shipping will be extra, but so long as you make it clear to them that you are quite willing to pay for it, then they will be okay with it.

    17. @Pia: I see.. so there's still a possibility for me to buy some stuffs there... I/we need a representative or someone who can understand...

    18. Yup most taobao sellers don't speak English. Anyway, usu they'll be open to overseas buyers using western union to transfer, cuz we can't apply for the zhi fu bao(China's paypal). Or, you can also TT to the seller's bank acc, but the cable fees & the commission charged by the bank is very :sweat

Some sellers are good, others are not, so you gotta read up on their fb page first. Using a translator that is. ;) Sellers w 3 hearts & above(diamonds & crowns) would be a better choice. Cuz I've heard of sellers selling good 'fbs' to each other :|

    19. Can I buy from a Taobao seller?
-yes u can but be really careful, some people were ripped off while using it...it's better to look at their credibility level before deciding whether to make a purchase from that particular store or not.

Are Taobao sellers can ship internationally?
      yep, i think so.

Is it safe to buy there?
-its a risk, u have to look at their credibility level, my friend is picky and only go for the ones with 3 diamonds or above, but i dun really understand this, because i rarely buy stuff online.

    20. BlueSand> My friend nariko_bisshi and I usually get some stuff there (apart from BJD related). Even for us who have Chinese-speaking backgrounds, Taobao can be quite complicated especially the chatting part. (It screws up sometimes TAT) So I'd say online translators are quite..unsafe ^^;;

I think we wouldn't mind opening a shopping service if there are people who are interested, but we won't be able to help people purchase from suppliers who already have overseas reps (especially in DOA).

As for the credibility of the suppliers in TB... it really depends. Both of us have had no problem so far as all of them have been very nice to solve any problems should there be one. Usually as long as the seller has all "Red Tulips" they're generally quiteeeee safe.

whippy> Nope XD It seems as long as you speak Chinese they will charge you "local" fees and alot of HK-ers seem to buy from TB too :3

    21. There seems to be someone who offers a shopping service... well, there are two I've found so far.

One is a person on live journal who charges 15% service fee. There is someone else who only charges 8%.

I'm game to try... the second one actually recommends that people join together to do a group order to help save shipping fees.

PM me if you are interested....

    22. Meow is from Hong Kong and I asked her to help me buy some BJD accessories from Taobao.

    23. I would hate to ask someone that I don't know and haven't been talking with for awhile to do something like that... I would feel like I was imposing on them. I have seen some beautiful outfits out there that I would like to get... That's why I'm doing research!

    24. i think this is the right place to ask.... but i found some one (purple puppet?) on taobao who has really lovely msd sized shoes and i would love to get some pairs, but i don't know how i could go about it...

has any one had any luck with finding a good shopping service for taobao?

    25. There is a buying service, but I have no idea if they are any good...

I'm thinking that maybe I might ask my one Chinese efriend if she would be willing to help me out with ordering from Taobao. She can't right now, cue to school and finals and such. But maybe this summer? I don't know how she thinks of Taobao either... I'll find out - if I find someone, I'll post it here.

I'm alittle leary as everyone keeps warning against it. Has anyone checked out the Chinese eBay yet?

    26. I understand Chinese since Chinese is my main language so I am able to help translate into English for anyone who is interested in an auction written in Chinese.I can also help you ask questions. But I don't have a TB account nor can I pay them.I do know someone who works with sellers from TB and I guess they might charge fees if I ask them to help pay(I can't promise if they will help cause I have never deal with them).

    27. OH, thank you so very much for offering to help out! It would be fantastic if you help out - at least with translations! I'm interested, not so much in dolls, but in clothing that I see come up (or at least I think it is clothing for sale).

      I'll PM you!

    28. I PMed you back.
I am happy that I can help.As long as don't give me 20,30 auctions to look through at a time..hehehe...

    29. That would overwhelm me too! LOL

    30. i used this taobao shopping agent. www taobaobuying com they do work as a group,10% service fee,50% off disccount of shipping fee. i think their service is good.

    31. Just wanted to make a note here: Please remember not to advertise outside of the MP. Members may recommend services, but if you yourself are running a service, you may not offer here in this thread.

    32. taobao is a good place for shopping, for It's looks like only accept the CNY.
you may find some Chinese friends to help you buy in taobao and ask them ship to you.
I f you want,I can suggest Kyle for help.his MSN is [email protected] . really a nice guy!

    33. I've bought a bunch of stuff from taobao through the shopping service buyfromtaobao and I'm glad to say that everything has arrived safely and rather quickly. Very reliable. And so much cheaper than buying from Ebay.

    34. Hi
Do you guys have any experience order from http://taobaofocus.com. I think they are an agent that help you order on Taobao website.
There are some items that I really want ^___^. Taobao sales half the price that I will have to pay on ebay so I am very interesting.

      Thanks

    35. The Lolita community is very fond of the shopping service TaobaoSpree (http://www.taobaospree.com/index.htm). I've used them myself and they're really good, excellent communication, plus only charge a 10% service fee.

    36. I have used a shopping service from http://taobaogle.com in the past to purchase items. They have always been great to work with, and I would use them again, should the need arise.
