Supplies Can I use this paint on my doll

Sep 10, 2022

    1. Hey guys!
I was wondering if I could use this shimmery watercolor paint on my doll?
It's water based and easy to remove but I just wanna make sure it's OK.

    2. Yes, it should be fine, though I have not personally used it. Watercolor can be tricky to adhere to the surface of your work but that's the biggest issue.

    3. It won't be going directly on the doll anyway, it will be going on your base layer(s) of sealant and watercolour shouldn't be any problem.

    4. It should be okay if you seal first! Just make sure just in case that there is no red 27 lake dye in any of the colours. In my experience that specific dye can stain like a mofo, even in small amounts. It's usually just used in bright Barbie pinks though, so it should be enough to check those. Maybe purples too just in case.

    5. Ooof, adding to this comment, Maybe do a test of those paints on the headcap first and make sure those reds and pinks (subsequently purple?) don't stain through the sealant. And if you rather not stain the outer headcap, you can do the inside of the cap where no one can see, and the outside will be pristine.

    6. I've used pearlescent pigments to dry brush on for blushing & they worked great. For dry brushing I applied color lightly as it brightens up when you spray over it with the fixative. Then added more when if it wasn't enough color. That was for general body blushing on one & for adding color details to scales on the other.

    7. I am about to start trying out watercolours too, have some cheap kingart pearlescent... so like minds and all ;) one thing I wanted to add, I was reading out watercolour paints for faceups and came across whisperinggrass' recommendation on using ox gall liquid as an extender and doesn't use this watered down, but neat (as usual/recommended use is 1:10 ox gall:water).

I haven't yet used it as been on a roll with making eyes ;)

    8. Maybe try using acrylic gel medium to give it more body?

    9. Last night I tried it with Liquitex flow aid and it went down pretty well [IMG]

    11. Thank you guys so much! For the help:love I'm going to do a patch test on the headcap just to make sure It doesn't bleed through.
