Sewing Calling all Hand Sewers II

Jul 17, 2014

1. You are all so talented!!! :3 I'm a "newbie" here, I've had my girl for five years now and I made her some clothes, but I'm not fully happy with them, this is the last outfit I sew for her is a Tudor dress for my little Scarlett and her new face up.
I've had trouble sewing the upper part /:
Hope you like it.

2. Lovely dress to start the new thread off with, chiakinakamura

3. I've completed a few handsewing doll projects, all of which have been alterations to existing pieces.^^ I'm going to be starting my first from-scratch projects in the coming weeks. I'm starting very simple with t-shirts, tank tops, and aprons for a couple of my boys. What I'm actually most excited about is hunting for the right fabrics and mummifying my boys in painter's tape in order to construct patterns!:mwahaha

4. I made Avalon a jacket, some shorts ( shorts were made a few weeks back but I had never photographed them) and a new shirt.

5. Ooh I love the dress and the jacket. Such pretty colors and materials. I'm new to hand sewing, I've made clothes for myself before but always with my sewing machine. I just made an outfit (sweater, pants and hat) for my boy Dio all by hand. Here it is
[IMG]

I left his pants looking a bit shabby at the bottom on purpose. I felt like it made them look older, like he's had them for some time and walked on them because they're a bit long for him.

6. A great starting point, I think. :thumbup You can learn a lot from customising and altering existing pieces.

7. [IMG]

Made this shirt, sketched and cut out the shark pattern for the patch and sewed it on myself. There's also a straight skirt and grey stockings that goes with this, but I haven't had a chance to photograph her with the entire outfit showing.

8. Arashi Uchiha, That's a great idea for adding a personal touch to a project. I was thinking about doing something similar with felt decorations.

9. Varoness - Thank you very much. It was a little time consuming since I used a rather slippery fabric for the shark, but it was SO much fun to do. XD And now my doll has a shirt perfect for any Shark or sea related stuff.

10. Varoness and Arashi Uchiha, you both did really beautiful oufit for your dolls! Wow! I'm really looking forward to your next outfit! :love
I just came back from my vacation trip and bought so many fabrics especially for my next project. I think now I can slowly find some free time to update my projects too.

11. Hey there! Great job everyone is doing, I love that green dress! This is an outfit I had sewed. I sewed everything, including the boots, by hand. I think the shirt doesn't match though as it was part of a different outfit I made previously.

12. ResinToBe - Wow! Your girl looks so awesome in this outfit. You really did great sewing project. :XD:

13. I made a hand sewn dress for Daisy (Lati Cara/Luts hybrid) a little while back.

14. ResinToBe and Lillith, you both made such amazing detailed outfits.
I really like the ruffly top, but I also am partial to ruffles and frilly things. I think it looks great.
And I love the detailing and color on the dress. That's a great fabric choice.

15. Thank you Hallowie29 and Varoness!

That dress is adorable, Lillith. The color, pattern, and ruffles match the doll very well. Great job. :D

16. Hallowie95 - Thank you kindly. I just finished a new dress the other night too.

I've always wanted to make a dress with detached bell sleeves. I just love how they look. I think I'll up the patterns to MSD size too.

17. [IMG]

I've been doing all my sewing by hand for the past few years, I DO have a sewing machine but prefer to use that just on the doll furniture we make (with my partner) I still can't get past the control I have on such a small scale by doing everything by hand, even long pleats and gathers!

18. I'm amazed by how skillful you all are! :o They all look as fine as with sewing machine!!!

Here is my unfinished project which I put it on hiatus for a while because of my vacation; I did it! I bought many kind of fabrics during my trip in Asia! And now I've finally finished the Obi for my Iori-chan and put it on temporary. But...many things left like nagajuban, eri/haneri, obijime, etc... I wonder when I will be able to finish all of them... *_*

19. You've all done lovely work!
I've always wanted to sew by hand, but i don't even know where to start to figure out what stitches to use.... All your lovely pieces have made me want to learn again!

20. "Romantic Dreamers Series"...This time I sewed a shirt for Alaistair (JID Ryan). It took me so much time before finishing from measuring his body and drawing his pattern. Anyway I still have to correct the pattern around his neck (some how not right) for his next clothing. The pants aren't done yet. But will be soon ;)

21. Wow that's so elegant and beautiful. He's a lovely boy. The detail in the shirt looks so professional and I love the little gold button.

22. Thank you very much! I'm glad that you like it. :) Now I'm planning to make his pants but still not decided yet which color and fabric I'm going to use.

23. Let me just say that THIS girl is spoiled:

I started that dress roughly around the same time as the outfit she's wearing, which was recently finished... It's been a pain! XD;; I'm so glad it's almost done.

24. Arashi Uchiha : Wow! She seems so happy to get a new dress from you. Anyway, the motif on this dress suits coming Halloween's day perfectly. ;)

25. [IMG]

I make a lot of pants for my dolls by hand.

26. Arashi Uchiha That dress is so cute, and I agree, she does look very happy for her new outfits.

Czechmix Those pants look nice too, I really like the pattern and colors in the pants. Theyes match well with the gray shirt.

27. [IMG] This is pretty much entirely handsewn - for the Historic swap :D

28. I'm bringing my MNF Rheia with me to Mexico in a few weeks, so she needed something to wear on the beach. :) The shorts are starfish patterned, but it's hard to tell. ^^;

29. I love it, I can never seem to make pants look nice, especially the pockets. Nice job :)

30. Teleri : OMG!! This dress is rally wonderful! It make she like an aristocratic lady! Such an amazing hand sewing dress! :o
Tayma-Leigh : The shorts are beautiful and the color is also really bright! ;) I like them!

Now, here is Lord Fayy's new jacket, called "The Four Seasons - Evergreen". I sewed it about 2 weeks ago. He wore it together with "Romantic Dreamers" - shorts and shirt which I did 2 months ago.

31. Hello!! May I join? I love handsewing, even if sometimes it is really slow.

I want to share one of my latest dress, I'm so proud of it :3 The shoes are handmade, too.

32. Awesome work! May I ask what type of fabric you used for the coat? I'm planning on sewing a coat for my boy and I don't know what material to use so the coat won't turn out bulky and stiff.

33. Thank you very much! :) The green fabric for his coat is just normal cotton fabric (quilting fabric from Holland) and its lining is Bemberg Rayon (for suit). I sew lining to make it look stiff.

34. Thank you so much for the helpful information.

Musume : WOW! that outfit is excellent. Those shoes are so gorgeous!

35. sharar jan thank you!!! :D It cost me a lot to make that neckline, I spammed my twitter with curses while sewing it, hahaha.
Here are some shots of the shoes:

PS: I'm not sure how many pics per post one may share here, so I'm going to stick to the one per post xD

36. You made those shoes!? Oao

37. How did you make the shoes? They're amazing!

38. Arashi Uchiha, Catopolis yes! I did the outer sole, sculpted it, sanded, painted, glossthem, and the inner sole (the beige one). Then I drafted the design, and my mom crochetted it in a mix of two extremely thin threads, one of them being lurex, that is what gave that shinyness to the shoes :D The crochet part was really difficult, because the thread was so thin that it took a lot of time to be done, plus the lurex is really hard to crochet because if it ties/knot/curves one has to discard a whole piece =S This shoes are for a 5.5cm foot.

I'm planning on doing some laced boots in black, but I need to finish another outfit first xD plus, making the soles is a whole project and takes more than a week between "getting dry" steps. My city is quite humid, sadly. I really loved making those shoes. I have

There are more pictures of those shoes in my blog, here.

I also did this dress (handsew) and my mom did this vest and boots for my tiny (she is 16cm tall):

(Excuse all the Bokeh, please) but this were easier because it had less steps for doing it, but harder because they were tinier!

39. Musume : Those shoes, you made, are really amazing! They look so stylish! :D

40. Hallowie29 thank you!! :D

41. Oh wow! Everyone is really talented!!!

I just created my first dress entirely from scratch so I thought I'd come share.
I just used a few old t-shirts I had laying around but it was nice to use the fabric up. C:

42. That looks really nice! And old shirts are a good source for material. :)

I like the color and for a "first dress" it looks really good!

43. yukiyoma that is a pretty nice dress!! And I really like the colors :3

44. Beautiful dress!

XD;; I had a screw up with the ruffle I was making for my doll Kazumi's dress, it just was too short and it didn't fit around her waist... But it fits around my Yo-SD's waist so once Halloween is over I'll turn it into a Christmas dress for Vala.

45. yukiyoma the dress is so pretty! and she looks adorable in it^^

Well I just quickly whipped up an outfit for my Batchix boy, the top and pants are both hand sewn from vintage material (the retro neon one with the skulls on it) and poly cotton knit, sort of T shirt material.
Here he is all ready for a day at the beach......

[IMG]summer's comming by Raewhitewolf, on Flickr[/IMG]

46. raewhitewolf : Wow! Halloween's theme! :D Nice clothing! :XD:

yukiyoma : Her blue dress is so cute! It suits her pastel colors hair and hair-clips so well!

This month I didn't have much free time for my sewing project because of the exam...*sob sob But now the exam is finally over, so my time for Halloween's outfit preparing begins ;)

First one is Kyoukatabira (unlined white kimono for dead) and tenkan (head accessory in Shinto-Buddhism belief)... Makoto-kun is going to wear this outfit on Halloween's night as a yuurei (ghost)!

I used a pattern from a Japanese book for this coat, hat and bag but changed the details to suit my doll. I wonder what he will look like when I put a mini-pumpkin beside him. Let's try on Halloween's day. :dance

I actually have finished other 3 more outfits but let to post next time ;)

49. This weekend I got some free time, so I sewed new outfit again :D MSD-size is always the best size for sewing practice. They aren't too big nor too small and I really enjoy to add details on their clothing. But still, I really have to sew something for my big boys too. I feel unfair to only make for little boys and actually my last biggest doll (80 cm) is arriving in these few days. I don't have enough budget to spend for new cloths anymore, (Broke, because of ordering three of my wish/dream dolls this year) so I must sew by myself to save money... *sob sob...

50. Hallowie29, I suspect your kids would throw rocks at 'store-bought' clothing! Both outfits are gorgeous! :)

51. Thank you very much! :D Fayy is the only one whom I sewed so many clothes lately. I guess my other kids must be jealous for him. Hahaha!

52. I love the control of sewing dolls clothes by hand - my sewing machine and I only get along for big jobs like human-sized tablecloths lol! You've all done beautiful work - I look forward to making clothes for my bjd whenever he/she finally arrives!

53. Hallowie, your outfits are amazing!

I recently got back into sewing after being lazy for too long.

1/3 doll sized hoodie:

[IMG]foxy hoodie by what rough beast, on Flickr

The pattern is just small enough to work on a 60 cm doll, but then the guy who´s supposed to wear it doesn´t do subtle too well, so it´s quite fitting :).

54. I'm just starting to get into sewing for dolls. It's much harder to keep the details neat on this small scale compared to humans! *_*

Here's a pair of shorts I've made for my 1/6 sized doll.
I'm not sure how I want to decorate and adorn it yet. It needs some buttons for sure. Maybe some lace too. Or, I could make it into overalls or a jumper!

55. mica I love that hoodie!! it's so neatly sewn.

56. Hi, all! I'm new to the hobby & sewing so I have a lot to learn! I'm trying to learn to hand-sew (I have a machine but I don't know how to use it :doh). Here's my second attempt at a sweater (1st attempt wasn't wearable haha!).

If anyone knows any good resources for very-beginner doll clothes (especially 1/4 dolls), I'd love to know about them! Sizing is the hardest part for me so I'd really like to find some printable patterns to learn on.

Anyways, here's Kendie in her new sweater:

57. I know of couple good books for beginners.

The two that I know of are:
How to Make Doll Clothes by Emily Dow (a beginners sewing book that make clothes without measurements or patterns)
Make your own sewing patterns by Donald H. McCunn (a book for making patterns from measurements)

I hope that is helpful.

58. Thank you! I never thought about looking for books  I see a trip to my local library in the near future!

59. Mandy- an oldie but a good one, and I am sure it's somewhere else around her, but Undead threads http://www.viermadchen.org/patterns/4583448518 it has sizes for yosd, msd, and SD. You may have to bring it in a bit since I think the msd they use where the original thicker bodies then the slender BBB. I love everyone's hand sewing, I shall be following very closely ^^

60. I never understood how people could enjoy sewing by hand. But then I tried it. Now I love it. <3
The only down side is that I still can't make them look like they were sewn by machine, but I'll get there someday XD
This is a... top.. thingie... (I don't know how to call it in English o.o) I did the other day \o\
