40–49cm Dolls Building Necro - large MSD sized BJD (Body pictures 15th post!)

Jan 15, 2007

    1. Hey ^^;

      I've sort of been working on this for a couple of days, and it's at the point where it's not so horrible that I don't want anyone to see (although it's far, FAR from finished) - so I thought I'd put up some in progress shots, see what people think and if they have any tips for me. This is my first time sculpting anything like this out of Super Sculpy - I tried once before with air dry clay, and that was the most horrifying thing I've ever seen XP

      Anyway, This is meant to be my character Necro. He's tall, and his face is supposed to look vaguely wolfish - long, with narrow eyes and a narrow nose. When finished I'm hoping he'll be about 50cm.

      : : E D I T : :
      Hey, I found a picture of him! To give you an idea of the basics of what I'm going for, here we have Necro with Bran (who happens to be the other doll in the pictures in the first post) :D

      [IMG]

      So this is what I'm working towards, vaguely - obviously some things are being changed for adaption to the 3D life ^^;

      : : E N D E D I T : :

      [IMG]
      Next to bran - the head is longer, but roughly the same size.

      [IMG]
      The eyes and nose still need work, and he needs ears. I'm not sure about the lips - that's the best I've managed to get them though ^^ I'm really not good at mouths.

      Front view.

      Profile view. I like the profile best - although I seem to have smoothed out the bump I put in his nose by accident ^^; I'll have to put that back.

      And, for the hell of it - Necro's head in one of Sigil's wigs XP

    2. Nya! So far so good!
      I have a homemade wolf boy too. :) His name's Zev.

    3. wow, that's a very good sculpt! I think you know what you need to work on so i won't say anything besides KICKASS!!!

    4. Wolfie Pie: Thanks so much! I had a looksee at him - I think we both had similar ideas on how 'wolfish' should look :D

      illyrimur: Thankyou very much ^_^ I hope to have the new pictures up soon - after that, I'll definitely be looking more for opinions on what needs to be changed ^^; It's at the point where I think I should be thinking about smoothing XP

    5. Ayup! Long face, narrow eyes, etc! :whee:

    6. Right! We have an update - with Ears, even eyes (well... I can't see where they're uneven anymore - it's all just kinda the bulk behind it), an evened nose (still slightly crooked) and shaved down lips ^_^ And now I need your help! Tell me what you think should be changed, altered, fixed, etcetera. And again, any hints or tips the more experineced forum members can provide on working with sculpy and boiling it (I plan to boil to cure, and bake only to harden) will be appreciated ^_^

      Now, the shots!

      Look left...

      Look right.

      [IMG]
      Slightly off to the side...

      [IMG]
      Front on! His ears kind of vanish - I may need to push them out a bit later.

      A couple of various angles...

      Final pictures, I think - just smooth and bake :D

      Next up, I'll be adding pictures of the body build. Right now he has doom abbs, but hopefully they should be smoothed out ^^;

    7. He's looking good~ I really like how the eyebrow ridges are looking ^^

    8. He looks good! :D Nice ears~~ Can I make one little suggestion? If you haven't baked him yet anyway. If you cut his head cap off straight instead of at an angle like that it's a lot easier to clean up the cut when you're all done. :3

    9. batchix: I'll keep that in mind, if I can fit it around his head-shape ^^; He's not baked yet - I want to try to do a little smoothing first, and I figured I'd give people time to oppinionate at me XP

    10. teehee nice picture! i also have a few tiny suggestions for here and there:
      the distance between your nose and lips seems a teeny bit too big. Although i like the pointed chin, you could try adding a little bit to it on either side to widen it ot (i'm also judging according to your picture).
      other than that you just need to smooth him out ^^
      sculpey is a pain the zeh butt to smooth imo, so i just bake it and sand it.

    11. In my first sculpt attempt, the mouth was much closer to the nose, and it looked absolutely horrible ^^; I'll try to nudge it up a bit (or shave the top a bit more and push back), but at this point the only way to really move it up is to rip it off and start fresh. I think I might have too much of my 'how to make a male face' training in my brain ^^; Besides, I don' draw realistic mouths in any sense - I knew when I started he needed a big mouth, but I had no drawing indicating how large his lips should be.

      Hmmm... I might cut down the bottom lip a bit too...

      I'll try bulking out the jaw somewhat - I was thinking of giving the underside a bit of a flattening to flare out the sides a bit in any case

      I'd heard something about a cut turpentine being able to smooth the little bumps in the surface, but I'll have to go back and look that post up to see if it's still feasable ^^

      Thankyou so much for the help!

    12. damn he's looking cool! I love the definition you go on the nose! I bet he'll be a heart breaker once he's finished!

    13. lolipop: I'm sure he'd like to think so XP

      New pictures in post 6. and soon, with luck, there will be body shots! XD

    14. Aw! Awesome! I cant wait for him to be done! :whee:

    15. UPDATE!

      Head is semi-cured (boiled), and the torso is made ^^; no arms and legs, but the holes were made and held in place using the beads that will become the tops of the arms and legs ^^;

      He still needs to be smoothed - the only work done has been to sand down the neck and the torso to make them sit neater - they'll still be worked on a little more once the final curing has taken place ( a short stint in the oven to help all the fill in pieces set)

      So... pictures!

      [IMG]
      Clavicle :D

      [IMG]
      Sort of... side on.

      [IMG]
      More front ^^; Full body this time!

      [IMG]
      Back and Behind XD

      [IMG]
      Next to Kiana - sort of a proof of size, since Kiana's my smallest MSD doll.

      [IMG]
      The grinning idiot XP

      Yay! It's nice to get some of the body in silid, less likely to be destroyed by careless family members who don't think 'hmm... soft clay. Maybe I SHOULDN'T touch that or smoosh it in any way' ^^;

      It's late ^^;

    16. damn...he works out a lot doesn't he XD
      what great detail teehee

    17. Me-ow. ^______________________^

    18. I love the detail in his body

      *looks at his butt*:drool

    19. ^_^ Thank ye :D He absolutely HAD to be buff, which is just one of the reasons I decided to make him myself ^_^ Although the six-pack turned out more prominant then I intended ^^; That can be sanded down if need be. Still, it's nice to know that, even if I can't draw muscles, I can sort of sculpt them XP In th wrong places XD

      I was too tired to mention it, but my favourite part is the neck and collar bone area ^^; Mostly because I decided he needed an adams apple ^^;

      Thank you for commenting :D
