January 2024 Meet Pics Here's a couple of pictures from our 1/8/24 meet up at the Kenmore Library. The theme this month was dressy/party/fancy attire and everyone certainly understood the assignment! Of course, all BJDs are always welcome, regardless of what they're wearing; but it's fun to have a theme, and the dolls all look lovely in their New Years' finery. The entire group: We were fortunate to have THREE dolls by independent doll artist Lillycat, so we also took a family portrait.
February 2024 Meet Pics Here are some pictures from our 2/4/24 meet up at the Kenmore Library. This month's theme was pink/red/love/lingerie, although of course all BJDs were welcome! There were so many beautiful dolls I ended up taking a ton of pictures.
March 2024 Meet Pics Here are some pictures from our 3/3/24 meet up at the Kenmore Library. Last month's theme was 'Fae', although of course all BJDs were welcome!
Yes! We're having one this coming Sunday, December 8th, from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. at the Kenmore Library.
April 2024 Meet up recap I've been seriously remiss in my duties to post pics on DOA from our meet-ups, and I'm going to rectify the situation by putting up individual posts by month until I catch up to present day with the intention of doing it monthly going forward. That means picking up where I left off by starting with the April meet-up, the theme of which was 'Doll Bodies.' Unfortunately, there are no pictures from the April meet-up. My phone had died, and I don't think anyone else thought to take pics. If anyone from our group did and they would like them posted here, please send send them to me over our Instagram chat and I will add them. For all that there is no visual evidence, it was actually a fun, educational, informative gathering and people brought lots of different dolls for us to examine. What was especially interesting was when everyone discussed the pros and cons of the bodies that they had brought for enlightenment of us all. To fulfill the picture requirement for posts in this forum, I am including one of my lovely lilac Yummysweets Lotus.
May 2024 Meet Pics Here are some pictures from our 5/5/24 meet up at the Kenmore Library. The theme was 'Wild Card,' so people could bring dolls they'd been wanting to share with the group, but that didn't quite fit in with the themes we had played with up to that point. And it certainly was wild! I loved seeing all the really unique dolls that people brought. We also talked about having a fabric swap in June. Unicorns! Scorpion! l-r: Customhouse Yeondu, Emerald the Enchanting Witch (1972), and Yummysweets Lotus
June 2024 Meet up recap The June meet up was held on Sunday June 2nd, 2024, and theme was the Summertime/flowers/warm weather. We also had our first fabric swap which was great! Unfortunately, this was another month without pictures, although it was well-attended and people brought a bunch of great dolls and props! I was apparently brain dead that day, and didn't even think to take pictures until I got home. Once again, if anyone from the group took pictures in, June please pass them along to me and I will put them up here.
July 2024 Meet Pics Our July meet-up was held on Sunday, July 24th at the Kenmore Library. The theme was 'your smallest doll.' Of course, it was to encourage people to bring their Yos and tinies, but also their MSDs and SDs if that's the smallest in their collection. It was a fun time! We had dolls of all sizes and shapes, and of course no meet-up would be complete without our official mascot, Chad, who got stuck with babysitting duties. Chad watching the littles So beautiful! I love this doll Tiny Orientdoll vampire! Tiny antique 'Frozen Charlotte' dolls from the 1800s, and a little antique reproduction peg wooden doll. Off-topic, but interesting - and it just goes to show that tiny dolls have been around for a very long time!
August 2024 Meet Pics The August meet was held on 8/10/24 from 2:00 to 4:00 at the Kenmore Library. August's theme was 'Ren Faire,' since the summer is prime renaissance festival season. The only downside was that August is also prime time for camping and family cookouts and vacations, so it was a small gathering; but pleasant nonetheless. Soom Migma, Rauco of Sin fullset, 2011
September 2024 Meet Pics Our September meet-up took place on Sunday September 15th at the Kenmore Library. The theme for this meeting was a smorgasbord of several things we'd discussed at our August meet-up. First of all, doll furniture – whatever people had that they wanted to share, whether a single chair or a whole apartment. Second: wildcard BJDs dressed in whatever they felt like wearing. And third: off-topic dolls that people wanted to share with the group. We had been discussing childhood dolls, specifically, but also other types of dolls that people collect. We ended up with Barbies, Ellowynes, American Girls, Magic Attic Club dolls, and several others I can't recall. The BJDs loved meeting them, and it was a fun way to learn more about dolls we might not be familiar with and our fellow collectors. Best pic ever. Chad is such a player.
October 2024 Meet-up Pics October’s meet-up in the Buffalo area was held at the Town of Tonawanda Library in Kenmore on Saturday, October 12th from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. With Halloween just around the corner, the theme was SPOOKY TIME! Everyone was encouraged to bring their witches and ghouls, zombies and vampires, demons and angels, ghosts and goblins, skeletons and f**kboys, and their trick-or-treaters! People also brought treats and candy and we had a little Halloween party. And as it was also my daughter's birthday, I brought cupcakes. Ringdoll Zombie Sol and Maskcat Yael as Moss the Necromancer and her pet zombie boy. L-R: Yummysweets Lotus, Orientdoll So (can't recall which sculpt), and Withdoll vampire Priscilla. Cupcakes!
November 2024 Meet-up Pics November Buffalo meet-up was scheduled for Sunday, November 3rd from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. at the Town of Tonawanda Library in Kenmore. November's theme was Friendsgiving. People were encouraged to bring their doll-sized tables and chairs, dishes and glassware, and BJD-friendly plastic food for a dolly Thanksgiving feast. We also had another very successful fabric swap. Ready for dinner! Peak's Woods Hucky sitting on a couple of BJD-sized games so she could reach the table. Some lovely antique harvest atmosphere and tiny dishware!
December 2024 Meet-up Pics Our December meet was held on Sunday, December 8th at the Town of Tonawanda Library in Kenmore. January 2025 Meet-up Pics Our first meet of 2025 was held on Sunday, January 5th at the Kenmore Library. After the hustle and bustle of the holidays, the theme this month was Wild Card just to keep it low-key and simple. Katie was also kind enough to restring my incredibly floppy Eldfoll Ryung who I believe was still on her original elastic from 2003, and my Volks Arashi. The whole motley crew That stand looks... uncomfortable So sweet! Freshly-restrung Arashi standing tall
February 2025 Meet-up Pics February's meet-up in Buffalo took place on Sunday, February 2nd at the Tonawanda Library in Kenmore. With Valentine's Day just around the corner, our theme was 'Love's Wins & Losses.' People were encouraged to bring their OTPs, their power couples, their enemy-to-lover rivals - and also their lonely hearts and the dolls that they just couldn't seem to pair up with anyone. Dolls dressed in red and pink were also welcome! Candy was also brought and valentines shared. I also made felt hearts bags for everyone and little ones for their dolls. Newly-restrung Elfdoll Ryung, personifying a woman's love for her Louis Vuitton bag And of course, our February meet-up wouldn't be complete without this Bedtime Barbie!
March 2025 Meet-up Pics March's meet-up was held on Sunday, March 9th at the Kenmore Library. March's theme was a redux of what we did last year: Fae - in all their glorious and varied permutations! Fairies, Pixies, Gnomes, and Elves. Dryads, Brownies, Leprechauns, and Goblins. Selkies, Merfolk, Dwarves, Changelings, and all the rest.
