Brigadoon marketplace?

    1. When I first joined DOA, I might have chafed a little at the (what I first thought was) strictness of the rules.

      Having spent some time here, I now prefer to buy used BJDs almost exclusively on DOA. The collective knowledge, the enforcement of non-counterfeit items - I trust transactions on here a heck of a lot more than I would on FB marketplace or *shudders* eBay.

      Now I’m struggling to find non-counterfeit secondhand dolls not traditionally sold in US stores - Xinyi, Angel Phillia, etc. Especially since AliExpress seems to have an entire cottage industry selling all sorts of counterfeits. And it’s clear that many DOA members also collect nonBJDs.

      I realize what I am suggesting is probably a new logistical nightmare that the mods are not interested in dealing with, so I am offering an olive branch - what if it was a fee-based group? Nothing crazy expensive, but it would wean out the flippers (possibly) and make a little money for DOA. Maybe make inclusion even more difficult - you have to have so many marketplace transactions or something.

      What I’m trying to say is - I like it here. I would rather spend my money with y’all than give it to *heaves* eBay or Mercari.

      Anyone else?

      There are actually quite a few safe options that I have been using.
      There is a different site I am a member of called DollDreaming that focuses on vinyl dolls (like DD, Obitsu, SmartDoll, AP, Azone) if you are looking for that a marketplace exists there for legit dolls.

      There are also a number of Facebook groups that act as private marketplaces for legit dolls. I am a member of a number of those and some of them try really hard to make sure only legit dolls are sold in the group.

      I have also had good luck from private sellers on Instagram.

      I would definately be for another marketplace here as another resource of legit secondhand dolls. I am always happy to see more marletplaces for our hobby!
      . . But I personally would not pay a fee as I have the other options listed. I also would be curious of what would be allowed. Only vinyls? Would Barbies or Disney LE dolls be permitted? What about cloth dolls or traditional/vintage bjds (French/German porcelain/composition dolls)? I have a feeling it could get messy really quick and would wonder what the rules may be for such a marketplace. :)
      Does sound neat though!

    3. I think I saw Angel philias and other vinyl bjds in the MP.

      But I'm telling you this: people literally go nuts just to wait 2 months and write 40 posts, do you really think they will ALSO want to pay a fee just to enter that MP?

      For me the answer is no.

    4. @MaleficentMrsofEvil I have to wonder why you aren't actually asking us mods about this?

      Den of Angels will always be a forum focused on polyurethane resin ball jointed dolls that meet the forum criteria. We only allowed for a permanent off topic discussion area a few years ago. The chance of a second marketplace for off-topic dolls is pretty much zero. The Marketplace we do have has always been a perk for being an active forum member, the idea of charging people for anything like that is terribly foreign to how we run things.

      Not to mention, no amount of profit from something like that would be worth the effort of making more rules, creating a new forum and having more territory to moderate. We barely have enough staffers to handle what we got.

      Not trying to be a downer, just giving you the tea.

      Edited to add: You can discuss, buy and sell Angelphilia on DoA. Since Obitus are grandfathered onto the forum, and Angelphilia use the same internal structure, we grandfathered them in as well.

    6. I couldn't agree more with literally everything you wrote. lol. I'd love a Brigadoon marketplace; I feel like it'd be a great place to find Tonner BJDs like Lady G or Evangeline Ghastly. Facebook groups are a pretty good place to find such dolls, but there's always the risk of scammers, so I'd prefer a place like here, too, though I see why it'd be way too much work for the mods. Maybe someday!

    7. DollDreaming is pretty great in general, although the Marketplace is a little slow (or fast - stuff tends to get snapped up pretty quickly). As for other dolls - I have had no luck trying to join the Dollieh Sanctuary forum, despite pleading in several places for an invite. Place looks abandoned.
      There's UFDC - United Federation of Doll Collectors. They have local chapters if you're in the US. I'm in the process of joining a local chapter. A lot of the members are older or retired, but the collective knowledge is amazing, and they have local meets where you can pick up some amazing finds.

    8. I would love a "brigadoon" dolls and figure market place here, that would be wonderful beyond words. As I know smart Doll will never be on topic, nor any of the other dolls besides BJDs that I love. If I was a mod and could I would do it in the simplest way possible, Off Topic Dolls/figures, all types lumped one spot, and a second one for clothing and such for them, and that is it. Buyers hunt as you will through it. I 100% would love and use such a thing, but know it is not in the cards sadly.
