Shopping Brands that use a faceplate system?

May 25, 2024

    1. I'm busy planning future purchases, and trying to figure out which companies use a faceplate system. So far I've got:

      - Alchemic Labo (Unoa)
      - FairyLand
      - Bimong
      - Doll In Mind
      - a certain banned dollmaker (EDIT: yeah I do mean Dollshe)

I vaguely recall reading somewhere that EOS (a.k.a. Limwha) uses faceplates, but I haven't been able to confirm this. Anyone else I'm missing?

    2. Mostly just confirming but: Yes, e.o.s./limhwa does. Also, in case it matters not all doll in mind do. Old ones didn't and I'm not sure where the transition happened. Dollshe (not sure if that's what you refer to, though it's still ok to discuss their old dolls) offered faceplate options on some (?) heads, some of the Fairyland lines yes (65? 70? Chicline?) but my memory is not precise on specifics.

Edit oh I may have remembered some you didn't mention:
      black cherry dolls ?
      Dragon shell doll ?
I feel like faceplates are a popular innovation so I really expect there are many smaller dollmakers with it

    3. Dollmore Zaoll(1/3) and Grace line (1/4) should use a faceplate system (same sculptor, too, but the name escapes my mind)

Coral reef bunnies have faceplates, too.

    4. Dear Mine dolls have a pseudo-faceplate system, where instead of a headcap on the back of the head, the face and back of the head are one piece and are magnetically attached to a resin plate at the neck area... probably so the dolls can be displayed wigless (they're all anthros) without a headcap seam showing.

    5. My old Angell-studio Dina had a face plate... not sure if they still do that though.

    6. Hello - I have several BJDs with a face plate from the artist "Anhais Studio" from Spain. Little Thea's delivery included 3 different faces ^_^

    7. I have a Hua Rong from 2016 with the faceplate and a Fiona from 2020 without the faceplate. Somewhere between that they seem to have stopped with the faceplate system.

      Edit. Sooms Idealians have faceplates.

    8. Thanks for the tips, everyone!!

Yes, I think you're right. I've now found out that Lillycat and Mayakdolls use faceplates too.

Somehow I never realized they were by the same person?? It's Gu Mi-Jung, who is also behind Mydolling!

    9. Ah yes, exactly! Thank you for the name! The Grace line are Mydolling dolls :)

    10. Soom Idealians all have faceplates. I'm not sure whether Soom's other lines like The Gem have faceplates - probably not.

    11. I was going to say my Nappy Choo Dalang by Soom has a faceplate but didn’t know if other Soom dolls do.

    12. Supergems definitely don't have faceplates. I can confirm this, having owhned many supergem heads.

My old Angel-Studio Bing-yi (ordered 2016?) was a faceplate doll, but she's the only doll I've had from AS.

Dollshe had a faceplate Era. I had a Bernard who had a faceplate, but their girls (Ausley and Amanda for sure) are headcap dolls, and their newer guys (like the "grown" sculpts) are all head cap. If you look for secondhand dollshe 18M's you could find plenty of faceplates.

Fairyland's Feeple65's are faceplated, and I think some of their smaller dolls are as well. Feeple60 and minifee are both headback-styles.

    13. If you like tiny anthros:

IslandDoll An An has a faceplate, but this is not true for all IslandDolls. I have also owned Eric, Louis, Eleanor, Noah, Kevin and Nuan Nuan and none of them had it. (Which is especially weird that An An does and Nuan Nuan doesn't, they're the same size and series with nearly identical bodies. I'm not sure if the other animals in the series do or not.)

Mishi's Dolls Bee Happy have faceplates and come with both open eye and sleeping.

    14. Just chiming in to say TianBa0830 uses a faceplate system for their sculpts. They're currently only released in limited preorder runs, but the bonus alternate versions (such as a sleeping face, in the case of my Iris) really benefit from being in faceplate form.
