He's looking good! How long have you been working on him? And does he have a name? I saw on your profile that this is your first BJD. Congrats on your progress! I really like the face, too. (And the teddy bear XD)
Thanks! Though I always have the itch to change something. Do you have this feeling too? I started him November 19th then got stumped on the elbow and knee joints. His name is Elan. Yes, he is my true first. I started a smaller one with DAS air clay. I carried the parts around in my jacket pocket and it shattered one day on impact lol. This time I carry this BJD around in foam and a plastic case. Thanks about his face, I'm going to give him a little scruff and spiked hair.I really love this forum it keeps me on my toes. So much inspiration. View attachment 378
I feel the same way about wanting to change things, especially after looking at everyone else's styles. It makes my doll look terribly mismatched sometimes! I'm sorry to hear about your shattered doll! I think the spiked hair will suit Elan's face well. I hope you will keep posting your progress. It will be cool to see the end result!
View attachment 385 A day and a half worth of refining details. Crafting outside my house took away major distractions. Took notes from sailor and focused on torso then head then on to limbs. Also thanks to inspiration from sailor and hanano, took away underwear like pelvis joint that REALLY bothered me and replaced with pelvis joint that preserves the beauty of the male hip V bone among other things. View attachment 393 View attachment 394 Added hair, eyebrows, refined ears and worked on facial symmetry. I foresee it will be easier to do the rest of his parts with an inspiring face and body.
Thanks for looking! Redesigning his elbow and knee joint mechanics for the third time now. xD Post progress soon.
Thank you guys! Based on my real life crush LOL. Sculpting is therapeutic and torture all at once. But I cannot rest until he is done, painted, molded, cast and shared.
Just one WIP pic for tonight. Been working tirelessly on this project in between my full time job. Wish I could just stay home and work on him though lol. In the past few days I have: - worked on hands - worked on legs and leg joints - worked on legs and leg joints some more - worked on legs and leg joints some more - sketch subtracted a bit of muscle definition Next Stop: - feet - groove locks? or is that what sueding will do? the whole guy is very loose and "cuddly". will try to string tighter. - details, details, details. View attachment 403
His posing is really lifelike! Neat. Sueding might help you there, as well as tighter stringing, but might I also suggest trying out different sizes of elastic-- it really does work wonders seeing how differently your doll poses with thicker or thinner elastic.
Thanks for looking everyone. So much work to be done still. Must have done and redone legs, hips and elbows four times each and still need more work on them. Happy with the height proportions now though much body altering and detailing to do still. The glass eyes started to bother me so I covered with clay and drew in some eyes. @_@ Lalala, back to work and checking around the forums etc. for inspiration. View attachment 406 Edit/Add: And PLEASE..constructive criticism is MORE than welcome! Sometimes I get bleary eyes looking at him too much and miss things. While I have a long to-do list of things to change and update others input is really helpful!
I really like his head As for contructive criticism, could you take a picture from the front ? it would be easier to judge the proportions, legs especially Right now, I think the the position of the elbow joint makes the upper arm look too short and when bent (with both sides of the joint), the elbow is too high I hope that helps ^^
