The Zi body is just awesome isn't it?



In celebration of finally starting her story, my little hunter elf got herself a set of proper garb for it.

 

Oh nice, I need to practice doing faceups too. I'm just so hesitant to start cause there are so many different good tutorials on multiple different ways to do faceups lol.

 

Avery having some fun while her big brother watches over her. She really likes the plane toy all the dolls share.

 

I love my first baby. Lan is so precious.

 

This is Oliviott, my Bobobie March. I've had her for many years now and she is one of my faves since she is small enough to carry. My larger dolls just end up staying on the shelf.

It's Shark Week at my house. Which means it's time to hit the beach and enjoy some shark antics.

 

I have just joined. I have 6 hybrids with Zi/Xu bodies I'd love to share. What do you use for photo sharing here?

 

I have a tumblr doll centric blog so I grab my photos from there although it makes them huge here. I think other people use Flickr.

 

Thanks. I was thinking of making my own website for my photos. I've gotten fussier about joining social media sites these days.

Oh! I can use my Instagram. Nope didn't work.

 

I use Imgur. All you gotta do is view the picture and then insert it into the little photo image insert thing. Way better then photobucket and doesn't take a billion years to load.

 

I use flickr, but it's a bit fiddly. You have to go to "share" and email and find the jpg link in the code it gives. it's not exactly easy. Boo hisss.
But i'm lazy and don't want to upload stuff twice.

I've been playing with Lidara, my Bei tonight. I made her a little circlet thing and a belt and she stole a sword lol. She's looking a little more like how I imagined.
Still hate her wig.
I'm having a real hard time finding 5-6 sized wigs that are a: not insanely child-like with pigtails or bangs or whatever and b: aren't in the US and have a shipping cost of like £10-15 JUST IN POSTAGE
Sorry but no, i'm not paying £30 for a sodding wig, especially not one so small.

So aside from Liv wigs (which she's currently wearing), where do you guys get your wigs?
Angelesque has some but none of them are appropriate styles.
I literally want something like Monique's Ginger wig, you know, no bangs, long waves or curls, in an auburn or dark brown shade.
WHY IS THAT HARD!??

Her brother's wig is from FMD, which also sells a size that fits these little cuties.

Yeah, all the people selling monique wigs want at least £10 to post and that seems excessive for a wig, I mean, they're squishy and fairly light.
Especially little sizes.
We have a UK stockist supposedly but she doesn't respond to emails and has no webstore (it's like stepping back to the 90s man. Who doesn't have a webstore in 2017?)
So hmmm.

 

I just bought a 5-6 wig and shipping to me was $3.50. Ginger wig is $20. So before international shipping is added it would be $23.50. Should I check it out? I could box my wig and bring it to the PO to check...

 

Shark week is still on going with some shark fest to supplement.

 

I have a really odd question that maybe someone here can answer. Would the RS Zi bust piece fit the BBB Isabella/March lower torso? Does anyone have both the Zi body and the BBB girl to play mix and match the pieces with?

 

I wish I could help since I have both, but I can't restring them yet so I wouldn't even know where to start swapping. ^^; I'm so sorry.

 

Maybe in the future then. It's mostly idle curiosity for now since I have an older March (2009 I think) and getting the new pieces if the hybrid would work would require resin matching. If I'm going to get custom resin for that I will also order a whole doll in that color to make the matching fee feel worth it, so I would have to decide on which doll for that and save up anyway.

 

Joining this thread and bringing it back, as I just ordered a custom Resinsoul. I decided it was time to make my wish of having a transparent doll a reality. I decided to go yosd as I like the size, and have enough big dolls. For the head I went with the Summer sculpt and for the body I chose Xu. Sun said it would take a month, so I'll post pictures in November!

Those things need to be tested... Just to be on the safe side, maybe she should try two - it's always scientifically sound to use a bigger sample...

Hi everyone! After over 2 years of quitting the hobby I ordered a Ni on 12/12. She will be my second Yo-SD and my first mature tiny. I bought her mainly because she can wear fashion doll clothes/accessories (single-joint slim body from Resinsoul), which are much cheaper than MSD and SD sized ones. And of course, I've already ordered tons of things for her!

 

Since it's the holidays why not go mad with sugar?

@Mirabilis - Ooo nice choice, Ni's a cutie. I can't wait to see what you do with her.

@Mahgiep Nope, on the single-jointed default body, I like how slender it is ^^

 

She's moved past "pony" to "some kind of house brownie."

 

I like that body, too. My Linna is on the Bei/Ni body (her head is Pixiu) and I love how easy it is to find clothes and patterns for her.
(Or discarded old Barbie clothes... She went through a funky phase last year and I happen to have some Rockstar Barbies floating around... LOL!!)

 

@Arashi Uchiha How old is Avery? Is she related to your other characters?

@Fairy Milliner Haha, Linna's hair reminds me of Eleven from Stranger Things! It's so easy to find 1:6 scale props, isn't it? I'm thinking of converting some space into a doll bedroom/hang out spot, it's so easy to do with a slim 1/6 doll.

 

@Mirabilis Avery is 10 years old, she's related to my RS Song Avalon who is her biological brother. She's actually an elf who no longer possesses her magic and is now just a 'normal' little girl.

 

All 6 of my adults have Zi and Xu bodies (3 of each). I buy used barbie and ken, some action figure clothes, and commission people to sew my clothes. With barbie stuff, I look for stretchy fabrics or loose waists. If not stretchy, and they have a cinched waist, I have to expand the waists in back by moving snaps or hooks and sometimes adding ribbons to fill those pesky empty triangle shapes. Sometimes I have to open sleeve cuffs on long sleeves. I have some wonderful Barbie Dolls of the World outfits, I love.

 

@Arashi Uchiha How did your characters lose their elven powers? I like reading about people's worlds and stories!

@Mahgiep Yeah, I have some Yo-SD clothes left and tons of Barbie ones, so she should have some things to wear! I thought of ordering the Zi body, but have bad experiences with RS's double-jointed MSD body and prefer the aesthetic of Bei's. The character I have in mind is supposed to be a 12-14 year old ballet dancer, Bei's body looks perfect for that!

I read that the single-joint Resinsoul body has no s-hooks in its hands? I don't think I've ever encountered a doll without s-hooks, does anyone know if they can be put in? Does anyone also happen to know the wrist width, not circumference, as well? Cheerio!

 

I checked Linna, and she doesn't have a wrist hook. The elastic goes right through the hand and back up the arm.
I think you probably could put in a hook, but you'd need really tiny ones. The wrist width is about 8 mm.
Oh, and she doesn't have ankle hooks either. The ankle width is about 12 mm, but the actual opening is very small.

 

It was due to something that Avalon did. He dabbled in something bad enough that in cursed himself, his sister and their brother Gene. Bad enough it angered a Goddess. It involved something considered taboo in their culture - necromancy. Avalon now harbors that guilt while trying to raise Avery by himself with the help of some friends.

 

This, is the most amount of "girly" stuff she allows me to put her in now. Her character has really been coming through - and she is most definitely NOT a girly girl anymore.

 

I love her outfit. She looks like she needs a bow, or a wooden sword or something... Definitely NOT a girly girl.

 

Aw thank you. Definitely need to find her bow, I seem to have misplaced it - again. She's my hunter elf, definitely not a little girl anymore. Definitely gonna make new things based around her personality now versus just her little face.

Avery though, still a girly girl to the core.

 

I love how the dolls have their own personalities. When people say they aren’t bonding with a doll, I think they are unable or unwilling to discover its personality. It takes quite a bit of experimenting for some to shine. Others are immediately obvious.

 

It really is fun to see how a doll will change from when you first get them to when you finally see them shine. Vala was always meant to be who she is now, I just needed a good swift kick to finally work on her story to find that. Still need to find more workable fabric to make her 'official' design outfit for her doll self. (My awesome buddy @AileenRose did a whole bunch of awesome art of Vala and her fellow elves and really helped me out thinking of her world and her story. So Vala's doll self reflects that now. ^^)(Seriously Aileen, thank you!)

Skimming this thread has made it clear that my next doll will be a RS/BB. I just haven't decided on the face sculpt yet, but there are a few that would work for the characters I have in mind!

Ironically, or perhaps perfectly, my characters are all elves too - blood elves from World of Warcraft. X3

@Fairy Milliner Thank you for all the measurements! I was thinking of getting jointed hands for her as I found some that have 8mm wrist, but decided against it in the end as Bei's hands a pretty tiny, and in case of a possible bad resin match!

@Mahgiep I've found over the years that 'bonding' as some people call it can be a hit and miss thing. There's many types of BJD collectors; some don't give their dolls names, others make complex character backstories. I find it all very interesting, how the same sculpt can be made into so many different things; from a clothes sewing prop to a pretty collectable, or @Azael case, WoW blood elves! I personally sell my dolls for a variety of reasons - no longer like them, too fiddly, bad poser, don't care about the size anymore, or I just want cash for a new doll!

@Arashi Uchiha Is Vala tan skin on the Bei body? What did Avalon do that involved necromancy? In most fantasy settings, necromancy is always looked down upon as a very powerful, yet repulsive art due to its nature. Is this why Avery lost her elf ears?

I hope everyone had a nice holiday! When I ordered my Ni, Sun said she'd ship in about a month so I've been checking my e-mail all the time. The Chinese New Year is pretty late this time around (16 Feb), so as long as she ships out before then, that'd be great! I've ordered so many thing for her and they keep coming in now that Christmas is over, I'm dying as I've not had a new doll in years!

 

Vala is on the Zi body actually, she was my first from the company straight out order. Avery is on the normal Isabella body and Gene (her twin) will be on the Xu body.

Avalon was trying to resurrect his parents. He was under so much stress from being left behind to raise two ten year olds he got desperate - he's only 19, he knew better but he also thought he knew better than the forces that left him alone with them. That's why Avery lost her ears - they all lost something. For Avalon he's cursed to not be allowed back in the world he and his family is from. His siblings curse came from the creatures that did emerge from Avalon's attempts - Avery lost her elf ears and her magic was sealed away making her 'normal'. Gene's magic was weakened so he can barely do anything with it.

 

Apologies for the Christmas duds but some sibling antics while waiting to hear back from Sun about Gene.

SUN JUST GOT BACK TO ME ABOUT MY ORDER. GENE IS OFFICIALLY PAID FOR!

 

She's here! I am really happy with the default face-up, it actually looks a lot better than I thought. I was prepared to ship her off to a face-up artist immediatelly, but she'll keep her default for now!

I paid extra for body blushing, it's super delicate and adds just the right depth to her body, hands & feet blushing is on point too!

The only bad thing is that both my pairs of Mako 12 mm leave massive gaps in her eyes, giving her that soulless doll look... I just bought a new pair (14 mm) so she'll have her new eyes soon~

Surprisingly, she fit some Middie Blythe clothes I had bought for a PukiFee sized doll! They're just a wee too tight at the back, but they still button up properly!

I'll post her box opening later today!

(And good to know about the eyes. I was gonna get my Summer some 12mm green eyes I'll have to double check. If he takes 14mm I'm gonna have to check what size eyes my song has then since I was gonna get them matching eyes)

 

I am new and I am awaiting the arrival of a LT Isabella. Her name is going to be Isleen Bronna Riordan. I have some newer Barbie outfits I am going to try to use for her. However, I am hoping to sew for her, too. Has anyone tried patterns from Gracefairie? How was the fit? If you have any other pattern suggestions, I'd love to hear them.

 

My Isleen arrived today! I have discovered one of the problems with buying on evil bay--sometime sellers get little details wrong. She is not a light tan, but a normal skin. Fortunately, I like both. Her wig came at the same time, which she is super happy about . I think she is really kicky. When I get better lighting. I am going to take a picture of how she is strung as it looks weird how it is tie in her head. I'll need help determine if someone did a bad re-string or if it that is how they tied at the factory.

 

@babs64 Congrats! If you mean a bunch of loose string inside her headcap, that's how she came from the factory. Mine has tons of extra in hers. About patterns - I'm no seamstress, but Barbie patterns should work. Make them smaller around the chest and slightly looser in the sleeves, so they can go through her hands as you cannot remove them.

 

Bigger waists too.

 

Congrats, @babs64! Though based on just the one photo, it looks like she might actually be light tan? It's hard to say just from a single small picture, of course, but light tan is pretty light; NS is even lighter and pinker, though, which is why I suspect she might be. Either way, I hope you're happy with her and I hope you share plenty of photos.

 

@Mirabilis, thanks for the info on the strings and the Barbie pattern suggestion. After investigating I have discovered her arms are to tight, thus the karate chops XD. But her legs are strung to loose. I was able to pull at least three inches of excess elastic from both sides.

@Mahgiep, I agree with your suggestion to adjust patterns for her waist. She is definitely more realistic than any Barbie.

@vicemage, Thanks! I can't wait for this weekend, so I can get some better pictures of Isleen in daylight. The seller sent her in her original sleeping bag including the DDE sticker that says NS. So, I am pretty sure that is what she is.
