Bobobie/Resinsoul 1/6 human discussion - part 5

Feb 15, 2014

    1. Thank you!

Aw Linna's so beautiful, I love her dress. ^^ It really suits her.

    2. Guess who it's finally on he way home? I got the shopping notice for my March yesterday! Now for the worst part of the wait, her traveling from DDE to Australia.

    3. Congrats dolls&tea! :D March is such a cute sculpt, but I'm rather biased :P

    4. coffeetea - Thank you >x< I do love that wig... I just wish it fit a little better. It's just a tad too loose for him. ;_; ... I may still take some more pictures of him though. I'm probably going to change his eyelashes soon for something darker, so I'll get some shots then. <3

Everyone's dolls are so sweet ^0^ Maybe it's because my first bjd was an RS, but I just have such a fondness for all their sculpts. I see other companies and I'm like "Oooh" but I see an RS, and it's this immediate warm feeling of "Awww!!" xD I'm so weird.

dolls&tea - Congrats on your shipping notice! Hopefully it won't take too long to get to you ^^

    6. Vala's dress is gorgeous!

And Rakuenless, I feel the same about RS, not weird at all. There are many dolls on my wish list, but I always come back to RS. I don't care for all of their sculpts, but I can see myself owning at least half. LOL!
I think for me part of the charm is that they look like a blank canvas to me - and I love seeing what people do with them. Whereas with many other companies I always feel that whatever I do, I can't match the company face-up, and that's what they're 'supposed' to look like? It's hard to explain. Falling in love with the sculpt/possibilities rather than with the company photograph?

    7. Fairy Milliner - Thanks. I'm really happy with how it turned out...I didn't even use a pattern.

Rakuenless - I second the above post about the sculpts, RS is my favorite doll company for this reason, I feel all nostalgic and happy whenever I see an RS doll especially since my first MSD was an RS and he's my baby...Vala's a close second on that one since she's been spoiled rotten since day one.

    8. BBB and RS dolls are my favourite. They are beautiful and interesting and I love how different the same sculpt can look. I've seen a lot of dolls that still look very much the same even when they have custom face-ups.

I suspect it will feel like a very long time before my March arrives, she's in San Francisco at the moment and I know there's a few public holidays in the next two weeks. However I did receive the first dress I ordered for her today.

    9. Vala does indeed look wonderful -- love that dress! She looks very elegant.

I know what you mean about "sameness" in some sculpts, even with custom face ups, Fairy Millner. That's often how I choose my dolls -- I won't usually buy in the first few weeks of a new sculpt unless I really, REALLY like it as presented by the company but I will wait to see how many different looks it can have. And if those don't move me to purchase it, I will largely pass. And I have also bought dolls I didn't think I would like because I have seen them with custom jobs that just wowed me. (In fact, I just bought an MSD RS for that very reason!)

My problem with the Bobobie and RS dolls is colour choice. I would really like a grey one but am not sure how the face up could be . . . . just have to keep thinking, I guess. ;)

    10. Spensers_mom - Thank you so much. ^^ I gotta say it's my favorite I've sewn for her, she looks so grown up in it. I don't think I'll be taking it off of her for awhile.

I like to think the only problem with RS dolls is choosing the sculpts and such. It's so hard to pick. I think a grey Ni would be cute. >w> Or a Xu...If you like little elf boys. Dark skinned dolls like the grey ones benefit best from the darker face ups since it brings out their coloring.

    11. I have a lilac RS doll (70cm) with the default face-up and she looks amazing.

    12. I definitely agree that RS and BBB sculpts are really versatile compared to other sculpts, my issue is they're so easy to buy on impulse... I'm trying to save up for a non-RS doll, but Denverdoll has a WS Yu in stock and it's so tempting! And Elena needs a new wig and clothes and shoes of course...

I'm beginning to contemplate dying Elena, does anyone have experience with dying a doll? I'm really unsure, since she's already light tan resin and it might be risky just because she's a small doll. I have another doll that's her brother, but he's a darker, warmer tan that I prefer, so I'd like to try to get her more like that color if there isn't too much risk of catastrophe!

    13. magKelly~ I'm afraid you've posted this nice long post in the entirely wrong thread. Dai is a 58cm doll (1/3 size) and this is the 27-28 CM doll (1/6 size) thread. I don't have the large doll thread bookmarked so I can't drop the link on you atm, plus it's very late here so I'm sure I'd mess it up atm. But congrats on your girl, I've played with some of the big RS and they are just as fussy as any of the other RS, but sueding and thicker strings really seem to help. Good luck with her.

    14. I think my March is here! Or at least waiting at the post office as I wasn't home today. It's going to be so hard to wait until 9am tomorrow.

    15. Hey everyone! Congrats on the new lovelies <3 I can't wait to see what everyone does. I am in trouble XD I think? perhaps? Well I was making Zelda and Link, still want to make Zelda but now I want to make Link in Harry Potter XD Oh nuuuuuuu. Oh well, maybe I shall finish the Link outfit, make the harry outfit and just let him go between both whenever I have the fancy XD. I keep forgetting, do these kiddios have 9 or 12mm eyes?

    16. Huge congrats dolls&tea! :D can't wait to see more!

Ballet, oh that would be cute too! You're making me want to make cosplays for my little ones, too. :) The eyes are 12mm by the way, at least for March

    17. Ok! I have some picture requests if anyone has both the dolls and the gumption to try the limbs out for me.

      1. Single jointed male torso with the human double jointed male limbs on it
      2. Single jointed female torso with the human double jointed female limbs on it.

I'm pretty sure they will work, I have the pixiu that I can try myself but I am looking for height and if they function properly. I took pics of my bei in the pixiu's limbs but that doesn't quite tell me what I need to know.

    18. I think I might have found some shoes to fit! I can't guarantee that all of them will fit, but I tried a pair of Taeyang (Pullip's boyfriend) shoes on my March and although she can't wear socks with them they just fit.

    19. I made Elena a new dress and took her outside for some quick photos, here's one of the better ones...
Also gave her a new faceup, I've been experimenting with them a lot. Eyebrows, I just can't get them right, hers need to be darker and less bushy but I'm afraid to use acrylics...

Edit;; Also, as for shoes, you could check out Denverdoll.com because they specify which of their shoes would fit bobobie Yos, it's really helpful :)

    20. super cute outfit! I like her faceup but I can't see her eyebrows very well.

    21. Thanks! :) Haha I may have done what I could to cover them up... they're basically grey and pretty thick, but I liked how the rest of the faceup turned out this time so I didn't want to wipe it to try again :sweat

    22. Been a long time since I was in this thread!
I need to take out my 1/6 RS guys more often. T_T

    23. Vevet~ DAWWW! Kite!I suddenly think my son's bao needs a kite... Actually I need to make a bunch of stuff for him... >.> Bad dolly grandma

    24. Lovely dress for Elena coffeetea! And her face up looks good to me!
And that is a wonderful photo, vevet; I love the composition and image!

    25. ^_^ thank you guys!

Lynn: SURE! I would love to see that kite! ;) a little piece of paper, and a few minutes and will be ready.

    26. Sooo... the kite hasn't happened yet... but >.> sleeping bag and pillow with pillow case... Yea that happened.. GOtta get a pic cus he looks so sweet in his sleeping bag.

    27. Vala decided Darth Vader wasn't going to run.

    28. I just ordered a RS Bei a couple of days ago. I'm really excited because I've been out of the hobby for so long and I couldn't believe how affordable this little girl was!

Now to try to find some shoes for her before she gets here.

    29. That's cute Arashi Uchiha! :)

& Congrats haiiroko, & welcome back, then! :D Shoes, always an adventure, huh?

I crocheted a hairbow and a tank top for Elena, here's a picture of both, ish :)

    30. coffeetea - Thank you! I love the hairbow you made, it's a really nice colour!

Does anyone know is the RS 1:6 girls look good/in proportion with the 27cm girls from Sugarble or Planetdoll? I was looking at those two companies wondering if I should get my Bei a friend but I haven't been able to find any comparison pics. *_*

    31. Awwww he's so cute!!! And has book accurate green eyes! Lol

    32. AWWW, Ballet, he's absolutely stunning! Eyes and wig are just perfect :)

    33. Harry Potter!! :aheartbea I can't wait to see him when he's got his glasses!

    34. CraftyGeek - Lol! Thank you, yes I wanted to make sure I got Book Harry, not movie Harry though I love Daniel <3

AxelaPistol - Thank you! I'm still playing with the wig, because I want to make sure his scar is visible

haiiroko - Thank you, I know I am so excited with him <3 looking at him, or his picture I feel like you can tell he's just missing his glasses. I order some that should fit >w< hopefully it will be here soon!

    35. haiiroko There's a photo on the DDE die with an Isabella next to a mini Riz under the planetdoll section. The heads are a different size, but they seem ok together. I've got a mini renee ordered and can take photos with my BBB March when she arrives, but it could be a long wait.

    36. Thank you that is just what I was looking for! I don't mind them looking a bit different but I was hoping to avoid making one look like a bobble head.

    37. Ballet, aww he's adorable, I can't wait to see him with glasses and clothes :)

I was going to stick with just msd dolls, but Ive been considering buying a Bei or March for a halfling customization though. I've always wanted a hobbit doll but I didn't want to change the feet, would not want to ruin them!

    38. Thanks Haiiroko! :)

LCMonkey92 A hobbit doll sounds like fun! I think Bei would be good for that :) The little outfits would be so cute too!

Ballet he makes a really good Harry Potter! Those eyes are really striking, it's awesome! :D

    39. These little ones are so much fun. XD I keep forgetting it until I pick up my bei, she's so light...I really wanna get an Isabella next for my next Yo-SD. She's been a favorite sculpt of mine for awhile.

Also Vala spam just her being silly:

    40. You know what I wish RS or Bobobie would do?

Make 'sleeping' versions of some of their sculpts for this....Cause seriously...That'd be really cute.

(I know RS already has Fei (I have plans to one day have Fei/Mei twins) but sleeping Yo's sound way too cute)

    41. A sleeping face would be so cute. Can you imagine a sleeping March? The longer I look at her, the more RS/BBB tinies I want to get.

    42. Honestly I'd just take more yo heads >.>

And a hooved yo. because clearly I need this like I need another hole in my head.

    43. But couldn't you just buy the yo head and then either diy or pay someone to close the eyes in? I kinda want to do that now XD

    44. Ballet~ Yes, you could. BUT! I hate the idea of trying additive mods. I'm ok with subtractive but I really don't like the idea of additive, especially on the face. Some people are cool with doing additive. This is not me.

    45. I think both mods is hard XD, I've never tried it, but isn't subtractive harder? I suppose, that if you didn't like the mod you added you could remove it, right?

    46. It's fairly tough to remove an additive mod, actually; the material used bonds very tightly and can actually be stronger than the resin itself! XD Not to mention that it's really hard to color-match (I haven't succeeded yet). With RS's unique colors, having a pre-made sleeping head would be much simpler than trying to mod it. (Plus it would open up the option for a subtractive mod for dreaming or winking heads!)

    47. The only mods I've done are subtractive mods and minor ones at that. I think making additions for a sleeping face would be really hard. And colour matching is very hard, even with the more normal resin colours.

    48. Ballet~ >.> Yea what they said. See with subtractive you just have to go slow and not take too much at a time. Make sure you don't ruin the structure as you go but really it's just... a little off, a little off, a little off... until you like it. and as strange as this sounds, if you wreck it, it's tots wrecked and you just get a new one. If I did an additive mod there would be something for me to try and fix, but it's like a tat or water color, the more you screw with it the worse it can get.

    49. I'm actually planning an additive mod once I get a hold of a body, now I'm nervous!
This March head came today, im going to try my first faceup on her! It's her body Ill be modding once I get it, adding to the feet :3
      [IMG]

    50. I think either way it sounds cute. XD But I'd really love some straight up pre-made sleeping heads..I'm not a modder, I'm more of a "Get cute doll, make a ton of clothes, backgrounds and props for it" kind of person..XD; I suck at face ups too..

LCMonkey92 - I can't wait to see how your girl turns out. ^^

    51. Oooh thank you everyone for clearing that up. Like I said, I've never done any of that so tons of respect for you that do. XD I'd mess up so badly, I'm that person who would keep adding water color and it looks like mud XD.

    52. Just sharing a picture of Elena~ Big brother Louis picked a flower for her, what a sweetie

    53. Aww...That is so cute. >w<

Quick closeup of Vala, after I made her some new clothes (been sewing more for her lately, she finally has a good pair of black pants)

I finally found some doll boots that fit her too, and fit her perfectly...Have no idea what company they are, they're older, but it's like they were made for her. They just need new laces. (I'll post pics of those later)

    54. Keep these cute Bei photos coming!! I'm really hoping I get my shipping notice this week.

    55. Very exciting haiiroko :D

Arashi Uchiha yeah I've had good luck with shoes so far, I have 2 pairs. One is from YuHao on Mint on Card, the 4.5 cm sneakers seem to fit really well

Shoes are so hard because they're the main thing that I really can't make myself, so I sort of have to buy them for my dolls. However, I have a new dress in progress for Elena and I'm really excited because this fabric I found is really pretty, like shades of brown and green, so I think I'll use that for the skirt and then crochet the top half of a dress... I'll post pictures when it's done, I just have to figure out how to secure it. Since March really has hips, and shoulders are there, and the fabric isn't stretchy, I have to use buttons or snaps or something, it seems. Can't wait to share when it's done though :)

    56. Coffeetea - That sounds lovely! Can't wait to see it. I recommend snaps since they won't warp the material over time. I used to attempt buttons when I first began but it didn't end well.
