Bobobie and Resinsoul Large Size Dolls Discussion - Part 9!!

Havra, I have my mods posted into the set of Andreus pictures on my flickr. There are some related OT things in his gallery too, the mods I did on his girly Keiran are there. I have other shots in my phone if you want to see any of the scars pre-color Which I can post if you like. Just let me know what you want to see. I didn't think anyone would be interested so... I never posted the entire process. His back isn't modded asside from the scars. Both torso joints are and he's really slinky and wiggly. His whole front is entirely modded which I think you knew... and his feet. His face... once more a little bit OT but it's his face and... is modded even more than the rest of him. There is not a single original feature on the dude... but it is undeniably Andreus.

I'm so glad that you guys like the scars. I tried really hard. It was my first time doing some that looked like that... I mean Cain's scar was really the only time I tried something that big and his mark is old. Umm yeah. The dog was probably a Mastiff, Dane, or Wolfhound. He was... ostracized his entire life. Being nearly albino amongst your normal average gypsy types without synesthesia would be bad enough but the poor thing knew what pink tasted like and that was it. This is another shot of him. you can see more of the scratches on his side.



No photostories yet with this one, just D and Tiamet. Once I'm moved I'm sure that will happen. He's with Okami right now till I can join him. Actually, most of them are right now. she has them all over her house cause of me. If you ask I bet she will post the pic she just took of Andreus and Nicky. it's really sweet.

Boots and hightops are glorious. so helpful with unruley ankles. My mom's doll fell so many times till I got her boots. it was horrifying. I have gotten everyone to behave, more or less... and I have a pretty varied flock. Each one wanted something different. It's a lot of patience but once you see what you need to do it gets easier. I sorta dove right in with D
I alter everyone though. I think Nicky is the only doll I have not touched with a dremmel. How sad is that?

I went to post all that in the other thread..... it was not locked when I started, LOL. YAY for spam Molliebean!

 

I'll check them out, Myrretah. I love your scars, I wish I had a doll who needed them so I could give it a try. Hmmm...

For 'suede sueding', I use some paper to make little 'patterns' of the inside of my dolls' joints, and use some very thin neutral beige-coloured suede. With some dolls it's kind of tricky to get it to lay right and not peep out of the joint, but it's worth it to take your time and get it right.
I glue the shapes in with Elmer's Glue-All, which is similar to school glue but I think it's a bit stronger. It makes cleanup pretty easy, though it takes some time to dry.

They're actually from DD-Anne, they're imperfects. I got them aaaaages back before I changed Andi's character around and just popped them in one day and they suited her lol. I always keep an eye on her page of imperfects, just to see if anything pops up that is really pretty hehe

 

I meant to say that I did post what the sueding looks like on my guys on my flickr too. I made a section specifically for it that has some of my mod work and my sueding if you want to see how I lined the joints and got the leather to lay properly. Like Havra said, it can be tricky. I use the Aleen's tacky glue which is very similar to what Havra is using. It's just a super sticky white glue. The only catch with it is you can't get them wet... like soak them in water (D has been in dewy weather and gotten rained on and been fine). the leather is not really super fond of all that, Kthanks, LOL. I actually cut the leather out differently each time, lay is across the joint and mark where I feel the high edges are to find my shape, then duplicate it for the other side. I haven't had to resuede anyone and D is... jeez, nearly 4 now? wow, yeah. Anyway... I hope that info helps and the pictures.

Speaking of, I was bored this morning and decided to play with Maeve and Etain. They were my models while I was playing with light in my room, and then the exposure on photoshop. This is my room with a light on, shades closed, no flash, etc.

I did some playing with light this morning as well with my Lian. Haven't gotten to my pics yet 'cause I'm wig shopping. Lian's wig is just too big. I can't decide what I want though

Hey guys, do you know if these boots will fit fine on Lian? Looks like it's fine for the foot part but I'm wondering if the leg part will be too narrow or just fine?

I'm hoping to get them to go along with this outfit and they should be versatile enough for future outfits. And I'm assuming I don't need heel feet? I messaged the seller but they haven't responded and I can't find any other info on them.

 

Myrretah - Holy crap that is some gorgeous scarring. When I finally get a pair of Lians to be these characters, I would love to know how you did those. One of them is definitely going to have scarring, and while it won't be animal bites, the impression you give of how they go into the flesh is brilliant.

@Lian foot discussion - Do we know how large her foot is? If I had thought about this earlier, I just got boots from the one group order and I guess I should have ordered two pairs to be theirs so they would match... Bah! Oh well. She can have different boots post corruption.

So you guys so far have used actual suede on RS dolls? What about moleskin or silicone, as opposed to hot glue? At this point I have just done hot glue but honestly I'm mostly unimpressed by the results... heck it's just peeling right off my Impl, it won't stick on him at all really.

@kittydorkdork - I suddenly want to play with her and see what I can do. I'm not quite the dolly whisperer that my sister is, though, I swear she can get just about any doll to do anything. The wide stance is good, I may have to practice with my dolls on getting stances that would be off balance to one side (Say, leaning back holding a sword for lunging.) I wonder if maybe her arms are actually a smidgen too tight and that's why she only does completely curled or straight? Just a thought. Is she strung with only one giant loop or two?

@coloredimage - That picture is just .... an amazing composition.

 

I think the bigger girl foot is 7cm. Syd tried on the new pair of dollzone chucks I got for my incoming IMPLdoll and they say for 7-7.9cm. They fit pretty well.

Syd is strung with one cord for each leg and one for her arms. In my opinion she's strung just right. The owner of a doll store helped me string her so if she's not, its her fault lol. Her weak spot seems to be her hips. She just never seems stable enough there for me to let go of her. And I'm not sold on rotating thighs in dolls. It always seems to give me trouble. And like I mentioned before those locking arm things are cool but not if you want any pose but at rest or straight out.

 

I got a little wild this morning and tried wiring my Lian. I used the thickest wire I have. A bunch of her glue peeled off from one shoulder, like way easily. After watching some sueding videos I think I'm just going to go ahead and do it. I'm going to try the moleskin method because it seems like a reasonable way. The wire is pretty nice to have for holding arm positions but of course that doesn't help the shoulders at all. I was going to try wiring her legs but wasn't sure how. In the arms the wire holds in place pretty well but it just moves around all willy nilly inside her legs.

EludyaQuinnYeah she might be done too tight. I don't know... I really need my own dolly whisperer lol I may have to try some fighty stances once I get her re-sueded. Her new outfit should be showing up tomorrow so that'll be a good time to test!

I love that picture of your Lian, so very soft. I like her expression quite a bit, it's pretty similar to Feng's but softer and more feminine.

Fawn has a new pet! I finally got my paws on one of these adorable little dragons at the local medieval faire~ They make cute baby dragon pets for us, you can wrap them around your wrist, or in my case under/around my shoulder strap so it looked like he was riding along >w< I saw several Elves with them on walking sticks. But for dolls they are perfect! I think I will find them online and get a few more....GAH I am watching too much Game of Thrones lately haha

 

Moontouched I love the dragon and the necklace. Do you find that the necklace flips around a lot? I'm constantly having to rearrange my Lian's 2 necklaces. And constantly having to pull hair out of it, just like RL I guess. A couple times I got fed up and almost glued them to the back of her neck. My temper isn't doll friendly lol

 

I know what you mean about necklaces lol. A lot of my girls have letter pendants of their name and they always get turned around. Sydney's pendant on her choker doesnt flip around, but the choker always wants to spin so I have to center it.

Thanks kittydorkdork, EludyaQuinn, and Moontouched I'm hoping I can get some awesome, similar-themed pictures of them once Maeve has a body. The boudoir-y look is definitely the overall feel I get from the two of them whenever I write them or talk about their characters. I do have to admit though, that Etain's body gives me a heck of a time mostly because she's so tight and I'm so used to Evienne's Bobobie body that I expect to have to put her through the same paces to get her to sit the way I want her to.

 

Hope you don't mind if I join you with a hybrid girl? Sifora is due to get a new faceup sometime before it snows this year, and I need to do touch up work on her tattoos, but here she is last year posing away. She's on an custom color matched Angell-Studio Charm body.

What a cool outfit, kittydorkdork! The boots should help her considerably. My heaviest, wobbliest guy just got a good pair that fit, (and sueding and tightening) and now he's very sturdy.

Am I the only one thinking that Lian would make a pretty and elegant straightfaced boy? But then, don't we say that about all the girls at one point or another?

I think we've had that conversation before, Havra lol. I think she would as well - actually I put Maeve's head on Andreus' body once since she's a very robust forest spirit though I didn't take pictures and the head looks good on the male body.

waaaargleblargle! my Lian's new boots came in today AND THEY DON'T FIT.

Can someone help me out? It's these boots right here (from Alice's Collection) and I checked the size but her foot just doesn't quiiiiet fit in there. Her foot is too wide for the boots. If I shaved off a toe it would be fine. The back of her heel just barely prevents the zipper from moving. I looked around before I bought them (and asked here) and couldn't find any info about needing heel feet for her. Do I need heel feet? Should I try to get a refund?

I accidentally left the seller a positive review that was meant for something else. Honestly I don't know how it happened, one moment I was looking at another item, the next moment the feedback page changed to the boots feedback page so now I don't know if they would even take a refund?

 

Do the heeled feet fit on the bigger girl body? If so, they would most definitely fit better in the boots.

 

Raesha I've done a little looking around for heeled feet for her but haven't found any. I can't afford any and really couldn't afford these boots and now I feel terrible

 

Yeah did we ever find out if the heel feet fit the 68cm girls? B/c all the shoes I like for Maria always seem to be high heeled. I may not be getting her a body til 2014 but it'd be nice to know lol.

 

You could always shave off a toe! If you plan on keeping her indefinitely and she's always going to be wearing the boots, then why not! I have a 27cm girl that I sanded off the side bump off her foot so she could fit into Tyler Wentworth shoes. :3 For an even easier fix....just take off her feet entirely! No one will know that her legs just end in ankles once they're stuffed in the boots. :3

You can always re-sell the boots here in the marketplace--brand new like they are, they should fetch full price or very close to it. You'd only be out a few dollars for shipping.

 

I think they're leather. I could try the ol' water/ice trick to see if I can stretch them a little. Do you think that would work or destroy them?

 

Wait... take off her feet ENTIRELY? Would she still be able to stand?? I'd be ok with that, if the stretching idea seems like a bad idea...

 

If you try to stretch out the boots they're likely to be unsaleable and you couldn't recoup your cost if it didn't work. I would try no feet first. It'll just take 2 minutes to try it and then you'll know. I don't see why she wouldn't stand--all the feet are doing is filling the shoes up.

I really prefer Ai's face, but Dan's horns and ears... grr. I might just bite the bullet and special order Ai with Dan hooves when I get Asce. Anyway, thanks everyone!

EDIT: Oooh! You could make a pair of heeled feet out of sculpy! Since they're gonna be in the boots they really don't have to look good, just have the right shape to provide some extra stability. A block of Sculpy only costs a few dollars (I think) and you could use her current feet as a guide, then push them into the boots to get the right shape. :3

Good news, guys! I emailed Sun last night about the high heeled feet and he has confirmed that YES, the heeled feet for 58cm doll also fit Lain!

 

I just missed delivery of my Xue. And it was me who ordered high heels feet for my big girl Ling. The feet were 1/3 size. I will report when I try the feet on her. I was also thinking about swapping LIng and Xue heads, I wonder if it will work and if I like it.

Yes, I opened my Xue! She is so pretty. I love her delicate hands. Funny thing, she has her right brow painted slightly rised, as if questioning something, and Miri (the Ling) has the same raised brow, they look hilarious together.

 

I faaaail! I've been a horrible lurker. But Moving Day starts tomorrow. Myrretah picks up the truck in the morning, I meet her there, we load up her stuff, then come to my apartment and load up my stuff, we crash for a night here, then on to the new place... ~ahem~ Anyway, here's some pictures of Ai with hooves. I'm sorry for multiple pictures in one post. I figured this was easier than posting three times. I took her leg-thingies off so you can see them. These two pics are after she has been restrung, wired, and sueded. She is no longer Floppy McFlopperkins. Her horns and hooves have been dyed black with RIT dye.

Hello all. I have been thinking about shelling another of my characters but need to be more careful with my money so have been looking at the cheaper priced dolls. After going through the database threads, I have ended up with a big crush on Weylin. Does anyone have him in grey and/or dark grey? Bonus if someone has dolls in both colors because I'd like to see them side by side. For the girls, I really like Ai though if I get her she will go on a human body. So, yeah, Weylin and Ai spam would be lovely.

In other news, I've been looking around like crazy for the past few weeks, thinking about getting another doll to compliment my Lian, for a story idea I have that I'll probably never write. I fell in love with Ringdoll Wagashi but I'm also looking at other RS/BBB dolls. I'm eyeballing Rachael because she's young looking and smiley but I can't find much info on her. Like is she double jointed? I'm also kind of looking at Ophelia as well.

I want a girl smaller than Lian but not so small that it looks off... Qing is really friggen adorable but I'm afraid she'll just be too small. The character in mind supposed to be a little girl or teenager. I'm leaning more teenager. Thoughts, anyone?

A big part of me wants to say screw it and just get whatever I want and not worry about size consistency... I'm really liking the faces on MSD dolls but not seeing make faces like them on SD dolls

 

I'm also looking for a shorter SD-size girl with very 'cute' but still semi-realistic features, but BBB/RS doesn't quite have what I'm looking for. (Oooh, Wagashi is one I hadn't seen yet. I'm adding her to my list.)
From experience with my first doll, kittydorkdork, I have to advise that you go with the doll you like most, regardless of price. You will be happier in the end. I was lucky enough to fall in love with my Feng anyway, but he was not my first choice and I still somewhat regret not saving for the doll I was totally over the moon for from the beginning. (Just something to think about.)
