Blurry pics

Apr 20, 2006

    1. One of my pet peeves is when people post blurry pictures of their dolls. If a picture is blurry, and you can't see anything of the doll, why post it? Especially when it's a doll or item people are trying to sell. So many times I've seen a post for something here on DOA for sale that I might be interested in buying, but can't see what the person is trying to sell! Please, I beg all of you! Try to only use in-focus pictures...I guess this is more of a rant than a tip, but blurry pics really get to me.

    2. i understand the blurry picture issue with products that are being sold, but i think some doll pictures that are blurry still look really good.

    3. Dude, seriously, some people can't take non-blurry pictures, especially with a craptacular $20 camera from Walmart. Some people can't really afford to get a $300 camera, especially after just buying a $500 doll. ^^;; Have a little sympathy for us poor folks just learning how to use a cheap camera. All we want to do is show off our babies! <3

    4. Aww! I'm sorry! I didn't mean to make anyone feel bad. I guess I was just miffed because someone was selling their doll yesterday, and I couldn't see what it looked like because every pic was blurry. I think people try to take pics that are too close to the doll. The best thing to do is pull back a little bit. If you have a photo editor on your computer, a simple select and crop of the part of the doll you want to show can do wonders

    5. I've used even the cheap 10$ cameras from Wal-Mart and I've always had the majority of them turn out good. Not AWESOME, but in-focus at least. Cheap camera isn't really an excuse >_>;;

And if a person is going to be posting a lo of pictures or selling a lot of items, it would be a good idea for them to get a decent camera. You can get a DECENT digital camera for 50$ That's not much more than buying a few crappy disposables. It's worth it in the long run.

    6. my first camera was cheap and i could take decent pictures with them.

you just need to make sure you have good lighting, and if you dont have good lighting you can always purchase the clamp lamps at hard ware stores for like 5 bucks. Also if you camera has a little thing on it that looks like a flower, set it on that option because that will focus better up close on things :)

Also, if the pictures are just a wee bit blurry and you have a paint program of some kind use the sharpen tool and it will define your picture a little better.

    7. Well, I've tried everything to get my pictures in focus, and it's just not happening! Still, it makes people feel good to show off their kids, even if their pictures are blurry. Still, there's also amatuer photographers to keep in mind!

      Patience is a virtue! :)

That's ok! You didn't make me feel bad. I just wanted to let you know some reasons why some people (or at least me) can't help but take blurry pictures! *huggies*

    8. Hmmm...have you tried using a tripod?

    9. I'm having a problem with blurryness too...a bit. I do have a decent digital camera (ignoring that I don't really know how to use it outside of the basics... :sweat ), but when I turn the flash off (because flash = bad) I have to hold it reeeeeeally really still for the photos to be clear...and I'm just not a really still person. :eusa_sile And sometimes carrying a tripod around just isn't convienient (especially since I don't own one). But if I really like the setup of the picture, I don't want to trash it just because it's not perfectly in focus. *_*

I do, though, try to take several pictures of the same shot, in hopes that at least one of them will turn out right.. :sweat This may be why my memory card always fills up so fast.....

    10. When you are taking a picture without a flash, hold your arms securely against your body and hold your breath till the shutter releases.
      Works for me.

    11. Concerning blurry pictures, I seem to get a lot of them. :( Although, I'm fairly sure this is my camera's fault, as I tend to keep very still and wait patiently as it tries to focus. Unfortunately the camera probably has some secret magic 8 ball where it asks "Hmm, shall I let it be clean and crisp this time? or should I be ebil and make it blurry again?" and I think the 8 ball favors the "ebil" side. At any rate, in my defense, I would like to say some people only have some means to show off their dollies, and they'd like to do it with what they've got. But, I do agree concerning items for sale, that the image should be as clear as possible. If you are really desperate, and the item is a somewhat small clothing item, a scanner could do, I suppose. :P

    12. How much do they cost? I'm really tempted to get one.
I have essential tremmors so my hands shake constantly {unless I'm drinking/drunk} so I can't even use the red eye flash setting on my cam. I have so many different settings for my cam but can only use auto flash and the sport setting.

    13. I got mine for like $15.00 at best buy and its a decent one

    14. Unless you're a war photographer and shooting in trenches - I think Everyone's photography benifits from using a tripod. As a matter of fact - it was the advent of the "snapshot" cameras that moved photography off the tripod - with the dolls, we don't need to worry about "capturing" an expression or movement - we have the luxury of being able to really set up the shot we want. A tripod is essential with that sort of photography.

There are inexpensive ones as MysteryAya suggested - that's a good place to start. I think you are going to be very happy with switching over to a tripod for your photography. Please let us know how it works out for you! :)

    15. Well it's either a tripod or having a few drinks each time I want to take some pics. ><
I'll take a look around next time I'm in town and let you know what I manage to pick up. Thanks! ^^

    16. ermmmm, i have a tripod, good camera and time

I still take crap pictures though.................if you've got the 'eye' then you are made, if you don't have the 'eye' then you're stuffed

I always think that taking good photographs is part knowledge and part having a gift for taking photographs and i'm buggered if i know the secret of taking a good pic..................sometimes they just work and sometimes they don't

Still, if i were selling something i would make the effort to produce clear pics - it's just polite ain't it?
      :)

    17. Even though my camera has a lcd display I and I use that to take photos after I save the pic I check it and it seems fine. Then I upload it and the shot is blurry! Plus I have a light leak one side ugh but I try not to post any bad pics.
but I canunderstnad how a person should try and post the best possible pic when trying to sell something

    18. lol Aichan, I have the same problem with my camera. What I think looks like a wonderful shot on my display can look really awful once uploaded. Which is a real shame if you're away from a PC all day, or something :/

      Must. Get. Tripod.

    19. Eheh, a lot of my photos are blurry because 1) my camera doesn't like indoor lighting, 2) I suck at photography and 3) I'm impatient. I don't like posting blurry or poorly-focused pictures as part of a gallery photoshoot, but if it's an essential part of a photostory, I won't scrap the whole story just because of a few blurry photos. My camera is misleading - the preview might make the photo look sharp, but once I upload it it's blurry as heck XD

    20. I have the same problem, even with a 4.0MP Nikkon camera. I notice my pictures turn out more crisp and sharp when I am outside in broad daylight, and I stand absolutely still. Digital cameras don't work well, in indoor lighting for some reason. Well, I think most people have a problem with indoor lighting. Turning on the flash will simply "wash" and "burn" out your picture to where it's more white than usual.

    21. I don't have a tripod (yet), so when I want to take pictures I take TONS of them. More often than not, a good one will be hiding in the middle of all the bad ones. The bad ones I delete. If I don't get an in-focus pic, I trash all of them and start again.

My first digital camera that wasn't a cheap and useless webcam was $40. It would take really nice photos if the lighting was just right, and I wasn't too close or too far away from my subject. Sadly, you really can't just point and shoot and expect something nice to pop out.

For those of you that need the flash to keep a pic in focus (I often do. I can't hold still for anything), try taping a peice of white tissue paper over your flash to filter it a bit. It will let you use the flash without washing everything out. You will get strong shadows and improper lighting, though (like my pics).

    22. Eh.. My post got eaten up. I've the same problem of blurry pictures. Even when I had a crispy print, once I scanned and uploaded it onto the image host, it became blurry. And most photos which appeared crispy on my digitcam turned out blurry when loaded onto my computer. And even the ones that appeared alright turned blurry when I post them in DoA's gallery. So, my problem is not just with digitcams. I'm torned.

    23. I was having the problem with pictures turning out blury....i need to get a tripod >_< if its too blurry i dont post them...but soemtimed i get decent shots...all thanks to the artist in me...and that my mom used to be a photographer and my dad met her because she taught it and he took her class XD...i guess i got it from her

    24. Tripods are really and truly an essential part to portrait photography. Or, in the case of our bjds, still life or product photography. ;)

Lighting is also the make-it-or-break-it part of the photographic equation that equals sharp images. On-camera lighting is okay - but definitely "diffuse" it with tissue paper, bubble wrap, linen cloth, or a diffuser.

    25. there are loads of cheap mini tripods on ebay. i got mine for about $2 and postage wasnt that much, they were a uk based seller though, but i seem to remember overseas shipping wasnt that much either.

the tripod has done wonders for my blurry pics and im really glad i got it!

    26. Sometimes blurry pictures can look really good and give out this sort of feeling.
Sometimes the feeling of movement, sometimes the feeling of..WTF IS THAT!

Most important is that, they can make this interesting image sometimes that makes you think.
And why most people dislike blurry pictures,
because they forget to look and learned from they're parents that blurry pictures are bad!

      -
i have a cheap cam too btw...on school we have really expencive nikon's and i can take the most amazing pictures with it.
That make me get high grades on school XDD (photograph grades always save my behind at the end of the semester)

But at home my simple cam is just AK! It doesnt have enough buttons to push and i get confused.
I guess i just need a complicated cam, that doesnt have a auto option XD
