Ah I love re-reading this thread. It helps me stave off the anxiety of waiting for my first doll (which to update: I have ordered a Benjamin). Thank you for all the picture spam... umm can I ask for more?
Gr8pes, Oh Congratulations for Benjamin! ^^ I'll be spamming some more pictures later from my Shinies! 8D There's new Limited series at Bluefairy and Minoruworld, all sizes are represented! Here is Winter Sam, Sam seems to make adorable girl too! ^^
I've fallen in love with the white winter series, sadly I don't think I'll be ordering them. Plus its not good to splurge when I don't even make my own money yet (go Christmas money!) But (i've said this in the BF waiting room) I really wish they would have boy versions of the outfit, maybe they'll make boy versions? All the LEs lately have been based for female dolls I think. Xaya: I can't wait for more spam!
Gr8pes, I agree-- I'd like more boy limiteds, too, but my bank account sure wouldn't!! : Congratulations to those who have ordered a new doll! Hopefully they'll be here soon. I don't know how to handle these new Shinies... so irresistible!!
Great news everyone! Benjamin has arrived~ You can see him here and I'll spam some lovely Benjamin spam when I have the time to take more pictures.
Gr8pes, Fabulously happy Congratulations for your new Benjamin!!! >w< I'm loving Sam as a boy, I might buy him as a regular version this year. ^-^ Would be fun if BF would make normal skin sets with different clothes as special order or so. (Not the grey or basic school uniforms there usually are but some jeans or something like that.). Faces - 1 by Xaya-Pooh, on Flickr Kiki wishes your boy warmly welcomed in the thread! ^-^
Congrats on your new dolls everyone DD Kiki is so cute there, xaya! Here is my Kiko and xaya's Noelle (when she was Chiyo, and was with me). They're such adorable twins
Your dolls are adorable! I wish I could take pictures like that...but my camera is a little on the old side. Benjamin: "Hello! Thank you for the welcome Kiki!" audience_resized by micheymac, on Flickr
Not the best quality pic, alas, but here's Erin modeling for me at the San Diego BJD show With all the brushing, her wig is getting frizzy (as is my Noel's in front of her)...any hints on how to tame this type of fiber? I know you can use human hair products on mohair, but do they work on these as well?
If the wigs are synthetic I wouldn't advise it! The added chemicals to help keep our hair nice and pretty will just build and gunk up the synthetic fibres (I'm sure there's a more detailed description in the maintenance section, plus ways to tame it).
Yeah, I was afraid of that. I don't use fiber wigs often because I've had others that have gotten very flyaway and unmanageable. Maybe I'll just get them both new wigs...they still have their defaults.
Ah so I thought I'd try to bond a little more with Benny by...removing is head and just playing around with his eyes (got to start restringing somewhere, even if its just taking the head off and then putting it back on right?). Well seems like Benny is a little stubborn and doesn't like his head taken off very much, the head's still on the body and my fingers hurt... a lot. Have any tips on removing a Shiny Fairy's head (that sounds terrible...)? Plus another quick question ( I posted this on the eye putty thread but I was just curious what other Blue Fairy owners in general do), Blue Fairy's default eye putty is oil based clay...and reading off the forum you learn pretty quickly that oil and resin do not mix. So should I change his eye putty?
Dropping by to share a comparison photo of SF Connie & Hana 2nd. More on my Flickr. Gr8pes : I suggest you should remove the putty and use silicone instead. clochette : There're plenty of treatment and styling products for doll wig. Volks, Leeke, Dollmore for example ^^
Thanks turbow! I'll drop by my local PharmaPlus and get the silicon ear plugs as soon as I find time. *sigh* I'm still figuring out how to remove the head...
Gr8pes, to get a head off, I pull the S-hooks off the elastics at the doll's feet, and then the elastic isn't so taught, and the head lifts right off. Does the shiny fairy have a magnetic head cap, or is it attached to the S-hook in the head?
@Peppermintsheep: Ah so you take the feet off first! Well he has a magnet but he also has an eye hook attacked to the head cap to be connected with the S hook... but he didn't come with them attached together. Oh and when taking the head off does the S hook slip out through too or do we have to take the S hook out first before the head will budge?
The S hook does not come out through the neck, but once the feet are off, the head (and the S hook inside it, along with the elastic) will lift right off.
*attempts and fails*... it is easier, maybe I'm just weak? xD After much struggling I have done it! Ah~ Restringing, its a pain but fun all at the same time.
I used my a knife and small metal file to make the neckhole bigger. I think that's a teeny mistake from BF, why make a neck opening without making sure that the S-hook is going to fit trough. ^^; I have three Shiny Fairies and I've had to do the same operation for all of them.
Many tinys have neckholes that are smaller than the S-hooks, and the hook won't fit through. A hemostat is very helpful for removing the head on these dolls. All you have to do is: -lift the head very slightly -with a hemostat, clamp the elastics underneath the head just above the neck (make sure it's secure) -remove the S hook and the head, and the loops will stay at the top of the neck This works well if you're working with the head only (like changing the eyes or something), the dolly sits around with a hemostat for a head for a bit, but they get over this trauma If I'm working on the body and the head will be off for a while or I'm redressing the doll, I usually slip the S-hook back in the elastic loops at the top of the neck and unhook the hemostat (you then basically have a doll with a hook for a head). When I'm ready to put the head back on, I do the following: -pull up on the S-hook -reclamp the hemostat on the elastics so that there's a loop (make sure it's secure) -take off the S-hook -thread the elastic loops back through the head opening -rehook the S-hook inside the head -release the clamp. It takes a bit more work than the "turn and pull through the head" type of attachment, but it's an option for those of us who don't want to mod the head.
Thanks for the tips Turbrow, clochette and Xaya! I think I might use the hemostat method from now on. Hmmm I still need practice with restringing this Shiny fairies, Benjamin always seems to have one leg floppier than the other leg.
Gr8pes, try to pull the legs, first the one which is floppy and then the other several times for both, that helps you to even the tension (if you have one long string for both legs). Here's Kiki and Noelle. ^-^ Faces - 2 by Xaya-Pooh, on Flickr They're looking at me like that! Hoping I'll get into sewing clothes for them soon! (And Kiki hopes to have a nice pair of shoes too!).
Benny Spam!~ Looking Off by Gr8pes, on Flickr So I made a light box yesterday, and here are the results of the first photo shoot. Not bad, I don't know if its the material I used or my lights that give off the really sunset yellow glow effect. But it looks really nice! *Yup, the leg pulling tricked worked. His legs are more even in tension now, thanks Xaya!
Thank you for all the great tips in this thread, I'm going to need them as I've never had a Yo-SD sized bjd before. ^^ I love your sweet dolls, Gr8pes and xaya! Thank you also to TURBOW for helping me with the eye size. Today my SF May arrived from being stuck at customs for six days, the poor thing. She's the 1st version May. I've ordered some ED eyes for her and am still trying out different wigs on her to see what looks best. This is a Leeke wig and the dress was made by me: It was getting dark already but I just had to take pics of her as soon as she got here! Even the postman's cheerful "90 EUR ($119), please!" greeting when I opened the door, couldn't dampen my spirits. I won her on Yahoo!Japan around Xmas already but as the winning bid was higher than I've expected, I waited a bit first before having her shipped (I also expected a high customs fee). I love mohair wigs on bjd but most of my size 6-7 mohair wigs (like by Glib) are too small on both SF and Unoa and they share the same size. ;__; They're always just a tad too small, despite the stretch. I wonder if the mohair wigs by Crobidoll would fit? Has anyone tried them on SF? Thank you!
Thanks so much, Serenia, I'm glad you like my May and the dress! ^o^ I'm still a beginner at dolly sewing and was hoping the dress would fit her even though I didn't have May with me when I was making it. I made the bodice a bit wider just in case because it's better if the dress is a bit large (she can always wear a pullover or tee underneath) than simply too small. Thanks again!
Awe congratulations on the new doll Locksley! She's so precious and your photography skills are awesome too! I adore your sewing skills! Beginner? I think not!
CharmeC: Thank you very much! ^o^ I love tiny doll buckles, especially the heart-shaped ones, and want to include one on my next dress for Shiny Fairy! The best part is adding little details and deciding which fabrics and colors go together. My dolls have a cutesy style and since May is as cute as a button, so she fits right in, awww. She is so much sweeter in real life than I've imagined. Still looking for that perfect wig for her... Gr8pes: Thank you very much for the kind compliments! It's exciting to receive a doll during wintertime because there's something magical about winter pics. My May needs some long sleeves though or she'll turn into a popsicle everytime we're outside, hehe. And I really only started my dolly sewing last summer, first with Licca and Blythe clothes which are also 1/6th scale like Yo-SD when it comes to height, so making the clothes a bit wider and bigger overall for Shiny Fairy hasn't been too difficult so far. Now that my May is here, I'll try to make something with actual sleeves. ^^ I'm so glad this thread exists because I don't see all that many Shiny Fairies on Flickr (though the ones that are up there are gorgeous).
Hmmm I know what you mean! Shiny fairies aren't that popular sadly, it could be because they're still relatively "new". Or people just don't like the sculpts (which is hard to believe, they're so cute!)? I guess because of that there's a sense of exclusiveness to them (which usually is only found with LE dolls non?)... Oh well at least we can rave about them here in this thread! Please share your other creations! I'd love to see what you come up with next, my doll Ben has an odd style... so I don't really know how to dress him yet. He likes uniforms but also casual but classy street wear. How am I suppose to sew that!? Oh well I'll figure it out eventually.
! I see you have a Pipos PO11 in the picture too, does she belong to you? If so, would it be possible to get a nude comparison of the PO11 and the SF? :> Thanks in advance!
I just scooped up a Hana girl off the marketplace and AJKKHGSKJFGHAJDKGHWLKJGHAKJ SHE IS SO ADORABLE, OH MY GOSH. It was a complete accident, getting her, so she only has a shirt and a wig; no eyes, no other clothes, no shoes, haha. But she is so so so so cute~ Can I request some boy shiny fairy spam?? I was planning on a Hana boy at some point, so now I'll have to get someone else and do a little body switching...
I'll gladly spam for the fun of it, but Ben isn't ready to give up his body just yet! Ben Chilling out with his bear. by Gr8pes, on Flickr You just have to love Build a Bear workshop sometimes!~
Awww, congrats, Peppermintsheep, on your new girl! I'd love to have a Hana one day, too! I hope you can get eyes and shoes and other things for her soon! I find it exciting buying stuff for a new doll, especially if she's in a size you didn't have before, so everything has to be new, from shoes, wigs, etc. My May's only been with me for a short time and I've already gone crazy and bought six pairs of shoes for her, and she has new eyes on pre-order. ^^; Gr8pes, your Ben is sooo cute! I like how relaxed he is, he seems like an easy-going boy, hehe. Here is my May (named Honey) in her new 'Atelier Momoni' outfit: summer dress with 3/4 sleeves, dark blue leggings and a black hairband, and the little necklaces and bracelet are by me. ATM's craftmanship is amazing, I love the neat sewing and the color combo. You can't see them but Honey's wearing pink shoes to match the bracelet. ^^ And this is an older pic from a few weeks ago that I haven't posted yet. Honey's posing with some of my other dolls in my sewing/doll room (sorry for the bad lighting, the pic was taken in the evening) and it's rather messy LOLZ:
Locksley your doll and pictures are so beautiful. I love Honey's current hairstyle, it's really chic! Plus the lighting in the second one makes it look super retro, I think it looks awesome! You have so many amazing doll sized props. Thank you for the compliment on Benny, I guess he is a pretty laid back kinda character. PS: Ben think's Honey looks really pretty.
Gr8pes:: Thanks so much! Her choice of hairstyle took me by surprise because I thought she'd have to go through several wigs before she found the right look for her, or that I'd have to buy new wigs for her to try on, but then I had her wear this boyish one (an extra wig that belongs to one of my Unoa faceplates), and it just "clicked" right away! ^o^ Aww, I'm glad your Ben likes Honey! Now she's blushing because a boy never paid her a compliment before. ^^ I made a new dress, socks, necklace and bracelets for her: The dress has enough room for a t-shirt to fit underneath, so I'm going to make one in baby blue, to "complete" the outfit. I also loved making the little socks and I went a little crazy with the jewelry because it's so fun and cutesy and Honey showed great interest in it. She loves accessories! ^^ Now she'll want new jewelry all the time! Here's an outdoors pic: Hope you like! I want to make socks in all sorts of colors! *loves the wee socks*
Locksley: Oh it's no problem at all! Hehe I actually saw a really cute pink wavy short boy wig somewhere... I was planning on getting that wig just to see how it looked on Ben. I'm a weirdo and like to dress my boys in boys clothing that are pink sometimes, don't ask me why.. I don't think they (well he) appreciates it. I'm really loving all your clothes and accessories you make for Honey, it all looks so professional looking and cute! I've got a few things planned for Ben that I have to make.. but I've been procrastinating and he's giving me the "look". Oh boy...
Looks like Connie is going to be a part of Bluefairy's new special/limited editions. They're calling it Spring Garden and it will be released (only?) via MinoruWorld. She looks adorable!
Hello! I have turned to the dark side!!! :> I blame Xaya. I apologize for poo picture but I just finished him and I can't wait to share! Meet Theodore! Couple questions as a new owner: 1. One of his leg seems a bit longer than the other.. (his left specifically)... is this normal? I have restrung him too so I am not sure if it is a stringing issue. 2. ... how is the s-hook supposed to go through the head? Haha. The s-hook is sorta larger on one side... I can't seem to get that side to go through the slot in the head? >.> Am I missing something very simple here? Anyway! He is a very nice little guy I can't wait to play with him some more!
Oh Navci, Theodore is just adorable!I wish I could answer your question, but can't. And now I'm debating scrapping my Paul girl plans for a Paul boy instead. Oh Bluefairy, why must your dolls work so well for any gender?
Has anyone ordered the new version of Shiny Fairy May? I'm very curious how she compares to the original in owner pictures.
Thanks baxterbrat! I originally wanted a Paul girl as well but I already have 3 girls in that size I'd like to find a friend for my poor lone boy. XD By the way! I made Shiny Fairy Database, I can't believe it didn't exist before!
navci: Hi and welcome to the dark side LOL! Congrats on your sweet Theo, he is so cute! Awww, I love his eyes, the eyebrow shape and wig! Yayz for blond prince-like boys. I haven't re-strung my May since she's still new but if I can remember correctly, there can be some issues with legs being a different length and that re-stringing should fix that. It's not just a Bluefairy issue either. ^^ It would make sense for one leg being longer if it's strung loosely than the other. Thanks so much for making a SF database, I was looking for it the other day and was disappointed it didn't exist! I'll post Honey's info when her new eyes arrive next week. ^__^ Anna: There are official comparison pics earlier in this thread, I think, and there's this owner pic I found on a Japanese blog when I was doing research on May (hopefully the owner doesn't mind me posting it, I can't find their blog again). It was taken at a doll show at BlueFairy's stand: She has a different expression and her lips, nose and chin have been changed... You can hardly see her teeth at this angle but they're there, they're just smaller than before, I think? Or is it just me? And the official pic comparison again, old vs. new: baxterbrat: Thank you for the link, I've looked at the MinoruWorld site and love the new limiteds! Connie looks beautiful.
I think, the old SF May looks more like TF May and the new SF May looks more like BF Diana. I prefer the old May but prefer new Hana though. I am working very hard on dragging my friend to the dark side for a Hana too! :>
Locksley, thank you very much for these pictures! Sadly, I prefer the old May I'm so mad at myself for waiting to buy her... and a little mad at Bluefairy for discontinuing her without warning. I have TF May and always wanted to add SF and PF Mays to my crew. I just kept putting it off because they are basic and, well, limiteds always took precedence. Sigh.
navci: Yeah, didn't they change SF May because she looked "too much like TF May" to them or something? Or did she remind them of some other doll, I forget. Despite the similarities, I still feel they could have kept the original as it is and made a new "May", just under a different name. Maybe the new girl could have been May's sister? Judging by the feedback, getting rid of original May made a lot of people really sad. ;__; I don't even know how common changing a headmold is in the bjd world right now. I've heard of it before but is it all that common? I can understand why people would be upset about it because May is such a beloved headmold. And I do like new May, she's just not May I fell in love with. I still need to get used to the new look (doesn't help there aren't many owner pics of her). And even though I have the first version, I would still have liked to buy another May, to be my Honey's twin. Maybe I'll get Hana or Connie instead (I did always like Hana). ^^; Anna: You're welcome for the pics! You can still get old May on the secondary market, so there's still a chance, and I'm actually hoping the company will reconsider and perhaps make old May available again in the future. Maybe if there's enough demand, they'd re-release her, even if just as a limited head? Am I hoping against hope? I'd love to have old May in tanned skin, too. *.* She'd look amazing!
Ya! I think the only head sculpt I know Blue Fairy has changed before was TF Xiao and Denis... they have kept the rest the way they are. It surprised me that they would do that especially fairly soon after their original release. Ah well. I bring more spam! I am in love with my little shy shy boy. And I found him the perfect big sister!
Locksley, looks like the secondary market is the only way to go at this point. I did contact Bluefairy when they pulled original May, expressing my disappointment of no notice given and that I would love to purchase the original May, if given a chance. Maybe, if they get enough letters requesting her, she'll be released as a limited edition. The new May is cute, but she will never be the original May to me. navci, that's an adorable picture!
I prefer the old May as well *sad* Navci, wow how did you make the bigger girl stand with the kiddo on her back???
Old May is really cute, but I think I personally prefer new May's more round-faced look. I think she looks a lot younger than old May. She's on my do-want list, so I'm hoping to get her not too long from now. navci That is adorable picture! Tomato has a little brother! They look so cute together.
Locksley, I adore your little girl! ^-^ She's always dressed so beautifully and I love all the photoes with her toys. Gr8pes, I'm sure Ben would look really cute with pink t-shirt and wavy wig too. ^^ I still have a default wig for my Nikolas but I'd really want to switch into something... well even if same model with different colour? baxterbrat, Spring Connie is adorable! ^^ I hope someone buys her! She's so cute! navci, oh noes. xD Blame as much as you want. ^^ Your Theo is adorable! Thanks for the database, I'll add my little ones in it too. Also, Nikolas is the only boy in my SF gang and I'm hoping to buy Sam to accompany him, well if not soon then later. ;D Oh and Hana you say.. Maybe I should take more photos of my Kiki for your friend. ^w^ Anna, I have to agree with you and many others. Even if new SF May is adorable, she looks too much like Diana. I'd die for a chance to order the first version of May. I regret not getting her either. =_= Maybe I'll have luck someday. Faces - 2 by Xaya-Pooh, on Flickr Here's an old photo of Kiki. The girls are wanting some new dresses but I still need to make some.. drawing designs of them. I'm not very good at combining fabrics together but I'll try my best. ^^ I should make a shirt and pants for Nikolas too.
Yay, so many new posts, spreading the love of ShinyFairy! ^o^ Hopefully the new SF database will encourage other DOA members to get their own SFs, too, and then our numbers will grow! navci: Thanks for the info, I didn't know TF Xiao and Denis were changed, too! >.< Makes you kind of wonder if they'll continue changing the headmolds, right? The first BlueFairy dolls that really caught my eye were TF May/Mini May and Sarang back in 2008 (I still have their pics saved on my computer). Sarang's (like Choice Sarang, for instance) open mouth reminds me a little of old SF May, too. ^o^ Love the pic you've posted, both their poses look wonderfully realistic, especially because big sis is actually carrying her little fella, awww. Is her outfit by Wimukt? They make beautiful clothes and I love their coordinating and choice of fabrics! Anna: Exactly, we need to let BlueFairy know how much we love old SF May. I think it'll also help if we post our owner pics at their website (of any SF doll). I see some DOA folks have already done so and if we, next to posting the pictures, also mention our appreciation for May, the company's bound to notice. ^^ I know I'll post mine there soon and tell them how loved old May is among us fans. They're more likely to see the messages there than anywhere else. angelcallie: I see what you mean, new May's round face (also the rounded chin) gives her a more baby-like look overall, while the pointier chin makes old May look a bit different than a lot of Yo-SDs I see out there. That was part of the appeal to me when it came to old May (it also reminded me a bit of Unoa). She had a youthful and innocent look but there was this "maturity" in her face as well, and I loved the interesting combo. But on some Yo-SDs I prefer the round cheeks and chin because it feels just right and "completes" their look. If you get new May, please post lots of pictures of her so we can have some proper comparisons! ^^ xaya: Aw, thanks so much, I'm happy you like my Honey and her clothes! I'm making an outfit for her as we speak and I've already completed the skirt a few days ago. The weather's really nice right now and Honey wants to spend a lot of time outside, and by that she means showing off her new clothes! Kiki is sooo sweet! I love the attached eyelashes and how their color matches the lower eyelashes, and even the haircolor! She has a lovely and adorable natural look to her. Do post your creations when they're done! ^^ Maybe one day we can organize a clothing swap for SF owners? That would be neat! I have some dark eyelashes for my girl but can never decide whether she's better without them or not, hehe. It also depends on how full and how long the eyelashes are. Mine are just right for SF and I'll probably try them out when the new eyes arrive, just to see how they look. Forgot to post this pic from 2 weeks ago, it's of one of my Unoas (named Marie) holding Honey. She's telling her a story. ^^ Pic was taken on my bed, hence the bad indoor lighting: They have the same pointy chin LOL!
xaya, Kiki has such beautiful eyes! And, I do wish you luck in bringing home the original SF May eventually. That is my goal as well, though I'd really prefer to buy directly from Bluefairy, so I'm keeping my fingers crossed for a re-release. Locksley, gorgeous photos! They look adorable together I plan to send Bluefairy another message about old SF May re-release. Why not? At worst, they'll say no, and at best, they may decide to release a limited run due to demand. Doesn't hurt to ask, right?
Thanks everyone! Xaya: Have you done a group photo of your little SFs? Cuz you should if you haven't! :> Locksley: Yes! Her outfit is from Foxy Browny! :> I do love their outfits especially they are like a soft cottony style. As for how Tomato is able to carry Theo. :> Tomato is wired inside so she can carry quite a bit of weight!
Sorry it took me so long, but here's a photo from today, I was sewing some dresses for LDoll festival and snapped a photo from my dynamic trio. ^^ Trio by Xaya-Pooh, on Flickr Sorry for the burns. =__=' We clearly don't have any light at our livingroom and I wish I would have a better place to take photos. It was too dark to go to the balcany when I was photographing.
Bluefairy got back to me about re-releasing SF May 1st ed., and it's a 'no', basically. They have no plans to do so, but thanked me for the suggestion. Oh well. I'm still hopeful that if enough people ask, they'll budge! xaya, such lovely dresses! I like the lace trim on the bottom Your trio is adorable!
Aww Xaya: I love your little crew! Love the new dresses too! Now your little Nikolas would need a matching top or something to join the club! :>
