Black line across my photos?

Sep 5, 2011

    1. I use a canon rebel xti and until this point have never had this problem. At first i thought my camera must be dirty, and so i cleaned both sides of the lens, the mirror inside of the camera, and the part above the mirror (i dont know the technical names im sorry). But this line continues to appear. I'm still sure its just dirty, but i dont know where else to clean or where it could be coming from. I also have no idea how it could get inside of the camera. Here is a photo~

      Thank you!

    2. It looks like a hair might be on or in front of the sensor. I'm sure you know this, but don't touch it whatever you do, or blow on it either. Do you have something to blow clean dry air onto it to try and get whatever it is out of there?

    3. might be worth taking the camera and a copy of a photo to a local camera store and let a professional take care of it if it's something in front of the sensor. Does look like a hair in there.

    4. I have a thing that puffs air, and ive used it within the camera and the lens, but the line itself hasnt moved at all so i wasnt sure ><

    5. Do you have only the one lens? Not sure if this will work but, take a pic without the lens on it and see if the line still shows up. Another option is to goto a camera store and ask to try-out another lens.

    6. As others have said, it looks like a hair on the sensor.

Go into the menu and find the bit where you can manually clean the sensor, and select it. This will flip up the mirror and expose the sensor. Hold the camera facing downwards, and use the blower up onto the sensor. Do not stick the blower point inside! Give it a few puffs, maybe move the angle around a little, then turn the camera off and it will go back to normal. Then put a lens back on and check it. Hopefully you blew the hair out, and not just moved it around.

    7. This worked! Thank you so so much i never would have figured that out.
But i do wonder how that hair even got in there :/

    8. Edit, I postet too late - problem solved :D

    9. Dust (and bigger bits like hairs) will eventually find a way in no matter how careful you are. Just sort it out when it happens and all is good again. Just wait until you get dust that doesn't blow off, that gets a bit more interesting...

    10. Some zoom lens suck in air and debris when they are zoomed in or out. I have one of those and the fix is to put a filter on the front to keep the stuff from getting in. The hair or what ever it was could have been in the body since the first time the lens was put on the body and only now moved to the sensor. Glad your fix was as easy as it turned out.
