There was a thread about the more affordable (or cheaper if someone wants to call them like that) dolls, but it was pretty old and outdated. So I decided to start this thread with an updated list that I hope I can keep that way for a while^^ Here you'll find all kinds of ABJD in every sizes that are under $300. If you see a company/line that's not here, or there's a link that doesn't work please let me know so I can update it. I hope this list will be useful for those of us who are on a tighter budget Please note, that the dolls listed here are the most basic sets available - so most of them will come without a faceup, wig, clothes or eyes not to mention the shipping costs. So to make a full doll, you'll have to count all these additional costs in, too... Wow, thank you for this! One error: the (beautiful) Angelsdoll girls are actually $350; the $280 was a special price for Angela that ended a little while ago. Maybe it's worth upping the amount for the large dolls to $350, which is still a more affordable price for big dollies.
Oh, thank you autumnrain for catching that - I took Angelsdoll off the list I may up the amount on larger dolls to $350 in the future...but right now I'll just stay with 300^^ But on the positive side - the new Honig mini girls have just been included, thanks masala_chai_tea for the suggestion
It's a shame - they are so pretty, I feel guilty for knocking them off! I don't understand why there don't seem to be any of them around. I'd also consider taking Mythdoll right off the list. Doing a search on their name pn DOA should show why. The site still looks like it's functioning, but ordering the dolls isn't going to get you anywhere - I think it's about three years since I ordered Yue. Leroi simply, and unethically, abandoned the company and her buyers (I was fortunate enough not to lose my money, I don't think everyone was so lucky, given paypal expiry dates). I think leading the link up is likely to dangerously mislead newbies. ETA: I'm afraid the Dollmore Fashion dolls are also off-topic here. I'm sorry, it looks like all I'm offering is criticsm, when I'm very grateful to you for starting this new thread. It amazes and delights me that there are so many lovely large dolls under $550 and minis under $300 now - that certainly wasn't the case when I came into the fandom!
autumnrain - Don't worry, I'm thankful for the help^^ I've just recently warned someone about buying from Mythdoll, so I seriously have no idea why I have them up on this list...but now they are disappearing from it Also, there might be some other off-topic dolls there (as well as some...hungarian words ) - this was originally made for our local forum where on-topicness is a bit different. I'll try to weed out the differences (and the foreign words...)
Wow thanks so much for posting this!! I was already considering buying from LUTS since it looks non-expensive enough to break my bank and anger my parents :P THANKS THANKS THANKS!! You saved me!! And the dolls look good too!! But...Are they really genuine BJD sites? Sorry just paranoid...
Yes, DarkChild, these are absolutely genuine - I wouldn't list them otherwise (that mythdoll thing...was just a rare mistake ) But you should research them before ordering to see their specific quirks. For example Customhouse might be one of the older companies out there, with beautiful dolls, but the recent things surrounding their business would prevent me from ordering from them - at least for a while. That doesn't mean that they are not genuine, they've just had...some...problems. Some people don't mind it, some do. Luts is also one of the older companies. They are reputable and have beautiful dolls. Actually I've just recently got my order from them and I couldn't be more satisfied If you find a doll here that you'd like, I recommend using the "Company Reviews" subforum to find out more about the actual company
Ironically, all the Angesldoll dolls are now $270 - but only if you order the body and then add a head rather than going through their doll page, and only until the end of August. Soooo tempted by Jin.
Thanks, this list is really helpful. I guess I can't help but wonder and be suspicious a little--why are these dolls so much cheaper?
Don't forget the Vinyl siblings to ABJDs. Asian Vinyl Armature Dolls. Volks makes Dollfie Dream, Obitsu makes several types, including a 55cm boy. Everything well under $300 except if you want to get a fullset Volks Dollfie Dream (Aoi or Yukino) or a fullset Obitsu from Parabox. Even so, it takes some doing to hit the $500 mark, even with fullsets. Some Volks Dollfie Dream limited character dolls get pricey, though. Dollfie Dream is very Otaku-oriented with lots of tie-ins with anime, manga and even H-games and licenses add to the price.
Dollcumentary is right, the limited Vinyl DDs are ridiculously expensive. In fact right now at YJ auctions, there's a limited 2heart doll going for 2,200 USD in bidding with FOUR MORE DAYS TO GO. I won't be surprise if it hits the 3K USD mark. I just can't bring myself to part with that kind of money for a Vinyl doll - I might as well commission the clothes and paint the head myself! (then again, my skill sucks :P)
I think there are a few different reasons. One, cheaper companies don't make as many limited editions (or any) so the artist's fee is a one-time cost, and then they make that doll for years. Whereas something like the Soom monthly dolls probably cost a lot to design. Two, expensive dolls often come in fullsets, whereas cheaper dolls usually come bald and nekkid and sometimes eyeless. Three, labor costs. A lot of less-spendy dolls (like AoD and Bobobie) are made in China, where wages are lower, versus Korea or Japan. Four, advertising. More expensive dolls tend to have better websites and better photography. If you look at Soom's website, for example, it's obvious someone's putting money into it. A company like Resinsoul, on the other hand, has simple, kind of blah photography and website design, and you have to check out owner photos to see how nice their dolls can look. I'm sure there are other reasons too, but those were all I can think of now. For the record, I have two inexpensive dolls (60cm Obistsu Gretel and Bobobie Ariel) and I'm happy with both of them. I would say their molds are not quite as detailed as some I've seen, but they are both definitely good quality and not "cheap".
Hello again, please add this doll company to the list: Impldoll http://www.impldoll.com They have 64cm dolls (ImplStar or ImplModel I think) that are like $295
I agree with Dollcumentary, the Dollfie Dreams and Obitsus both belong on this list. If you don't get a "character doll," both are under $300, even if you include a vinyl head. Even the new, slightly more expensive Dollfie Dream Dynamites are still under $300. Awesome thread by the way, will be very useful to alot of people I think.
Thank you Dollcumentary and Luther for the suggestions but I don't plan to include vinyl armature dolls on this list. I know that they are grandfathered into DoA but this list was made first and foremost for our local Hungarian forum and armature dolls are off-topic there. First I made the mistake of trying to keep the slight differences in the lists but it's such a huge work that I decided to go with only one version.
limhwa foryou is $300 for urethane minus sets.. http://www.limhwa.com/girls.htm limhwa limho mono is $300 for urethane minus sets.. http://www.limhwa.com/mono.htm new limhwa aria series is $240.. http://www.limhwa.com/ariaseries.htm narindoll firefly bandy is $250.. http://www.dollfair.com/firefly.htm
Thanks so much for the list! I'm caught up between two dolls, this one http://www.5stardoll.com/index.php/1-4-size-doll/emily.html and this one, http://dollcatch.com/english/goods_detail.php?goodsIdx=12 In your opinion, which one is better? and I don't know the measurement of the one in dollcatch. :\
Thank you guys for the new links! I'll be sure to include them. You can expect some updates soon, since there are also some new companies that need to be included (and I'm not sure if all the links work anymore ) confettiqueen - I don't think my opinion counts in your choice, since the doll will be for you, and not for me But I can recommend the search function to look up these companies and pictures about the dolls The Dollcatch measurements are in their FAQ here: http://dollcatch.com/english/board....udF9udW09Mg==||&code=1234837538&mode=bbs_view This is the Dollcatch feedback thread for 2009: http://www.denofangels.com/forums/showthread.php?t=290981&highlight=dollcatch This is the Dollcatch waiting room where you can see how long the current wait is and how do others like their new dolls: http://www.denofangels.com/forums/showthread.php?t=276231&highlight=dollcatch&page=36 Dollcatch is the sister company of Customhouse, so you may want to look up their waiting room, too: http://www.denofangels.com/forums/showthread.php?t=300121&highlight=dollcatch&page=66 Here is the 5stardoll feedback thread for 2009: http://www.denofangels.com/forums/showthread.php?t=312511 Unfortunately they don't have a waiting room, but you can search for owners...I've seen some reviews about their dolls and generally the owners were satisfied Good luck finding the perfect doll for you^^
Hello once again, if you look at Illusion Spirit's 1/3 boys, Toki and Adrian, (the latest from them) you will find that these 1/3 boys are also a little below $300.
Hi the link for Nabi Kiss is broken, here is the correct one: http://www.gardenofdolls.com/ Ashley Koh also has a Nabiya Elf now that is also under $300, the first pre-order finished last month but there will be more soon. Best, Ani
The Felixdoll Brownie site isn't working. I'd suggest you put http://www.ajumapamausa.com/ on there for the brownies, it's a US dealer with very good feedback. Plus, only around $68-$100 for a fullset
Another thing: Blue Fairy Tiny Fairy (43 cm) are only $278 with their "Choice" option, and Blue Fairy Pocket Fairies are actually only $220 for their "Choice" option.
Suggestion! Asleep Eidolon Tinies can be added. Their 27CM dolls are $165, their 16CM dolls are $135.
Angelsdoll can come back in now. ))) Their 1/3 girls have dropped in price to $288, and just $5 extra for tan.
Little Monica Honey Harmony Line (26 cm) only costs $240.... although it seems to be the standard of tiny dolls ^^;;; Little Monica Honey Harmony And maybe BJD under $300 isn't the most accurate term for "affordable" dolls? since the standard of mini is around $250, and that isn't cheap according to its size.. and $400 for an SD I think is already very cheap..... So, I think these $310 Doll-Love 60 cm line Love Doll is already very cheap for an SD and should be included in the "affordable" BJD list. Maybe the best cathegory for affordable BJD is something like : Large dolls (60++ cm) below $400 Mini dolls (40ish cm) below $300 Tiny dolls (under 35 cm) below $200 but this is just my suggestion Although the "below $300" view will be helpful to those who have $300 and want to buy BJD in any size (either knowing or not knowing that a tiny worth $300 is already very expensive ^^;;;)
Does anyone know if this doll comes as a full set or not? http://www.islanddoll.com/en/show_Pro.aspx?ProId=60 Or if I have to buy the eyes, wig, clothes, and such separately. I'd be fine if it just came with a wig and eyes, but it doesn't say anything except the measurements, so I was wondering if anyone knew... :I
Definitely not fullset. On Featherfall's page (they sell Island Dolls, too) it says that they come with acrylic eyes, and that's all. Faceup is extra, just like clothes, and the wig is actually limited (though it's still possible to purchase it). But you could ask them directly about what's included - that's the surest way to know
A lot of the Chinese companies have really low prices, especially the newer ones but not many companies have big dolls for less than $250 so I put in the ones closest to that price. There are a ton of MSD sized dolls for that price though. 60cm+ dolls: (the ones I can think of) +Angel of Dream/AoD-$265 +Fantasydoll- $200 +Angel Street-$200 +Demon Garden-$285-$300 +Dragon Doll-$276 +Illusion Spirit-$295 +Impldoll-$295 1/4 sized (some of them but there are a lot out there) pretty much every chinese company has 1/4 sized dolls for this price +Luts Kid delf-$240 +Dollmore kids-$216 for normal/white skin, $260 for tan +Dollzone-$230 +Angell-Studio kid-$240 +Angelheim Juniorheim-$265 Another option is to look for dolls in the marketplace, you can usually get a really good deal
Thank you! Would this link be a good replacement for the broken link? http://www.camelliadynasty.com/shop/index.php
Angelsdoll have permanently reduced the prices of their large 72cm boy and 62 girl dolls (which are really exquisitely beautiful) to $230 and $220.
I fall madly in love with dolls' faces, but couldn't really care less about the body as long as it's strung up tightly enough. ^_^' Forgive me if there's a similar thread, but I need some help. xP I really prefer a body $130 or less... Any suggestions? Thanks (And I have searched the Marketplace, but haven't found much :P)
I have no idea of the company's reputation but Mirodoll has girl SD bodies for 130, and male for 160.
Not sure if it's been mentioned (derp) but I didn't see Doll Leaves on the list. Their 45cm dolls are $159 blank, 26cm is $138, and 20cm is $119. And I've heard their quality is wonderful
You might want to add IMPLdoll child dolls to the MSDs, a fullset of one is $276. Also 5stardoll tinies are $130 blank. And for the large dolls (I just sorta stared when I saw this) you should add Angel Street, a basic doll including two sets of eyes, basic face up, wig, pillow, $160. Hope I helped! If you need links I can find them ^^
I went on the actual Angel Street site but I think I got a bit mixed up anyway, but the body without a head is $160. I just mixed the two up, that's all ^^;
I reccomend buying from a US dealer to save on shipping. To have a doll shipped from Asia it can average about $70 +/- depending on size but shipped from the US it's more like $10-$20. The ones I know of are: http://junkyspot.com/ http://mintoncardinc.com/dolls/ http://denverdoll.com/ and maybe: http://www.dollpeddlar.com/index.php?cPath=1241 (never ordered from there so I don't know anything about them) I think the cheapest bjds are bobobie tinies and 27cm dolls which are like $70-$100 You could also reccomend your sister start off with a cheaper non-BJD like a Hujoo, Obitsu, or 27cm Dollfie.
I'd just like to note that even though it may not apply to -this- one case, this pricing also depends on where you are. If you live in Canada, shipping from the USA is still between $40-60 insured, AND you're going to get hit with major customs on a full doll. I paid $400 for an AH Ryan from the MP from California, paid $40-some in insured shipping, and then got hit with an additional $55 in Customs fees. From an Asian company, no Canadians (not to my knowledge) have ever been charged a Customs fee. Furthermore, Alice's Collections (http://www.alicescollections.com) is offering their Doll Family A and Doll Family H's at a discounted price which makes most of them under $300 until the end of August. :3
I have several Bobobies--they're great and I'm really happy with them. You might have to restring them with stronger elastic (not that big of a deal) for the best posing. They have some nice hoofed dolls--Ai and Mu in SD size, and Yao and Ming in MSD. The Junkyspot carries a nice selection of Bobobie dolls: http://www.junkyspot.com/obindex.html Also, if you go for MSD, check out Doll Leaves: http://www.doll-leaves.com/default.html They're a newer company, and their MSD dolls are very nice and only $159.
I've owned a Fantasy Doll Tiny and I have a BBB Isabella 28cm. the Fantasy doll body is quite cute and poses very nicely (I had the single jointed body, and the new double jointed body should pose even better) The BBB body is thiner then most Yo-SDs so she can wear Liv doll and some Barbie clothes, buying clothing can be really inexpensive. the BBB body doesn't pose particularly well, but with hot glue sueding and restringing they pose pretty well. also both the fantasy doll and BBB dolls can wear Liv doll wigs ($5.99 at walmart) so wigging them can be quite inexpensive too. and if you want a soom-like fantasy look on a budget you could try making sculpey clay horns or wings and attaching them with magnets. hope this helps!
Hi there! What about Angel Street? They have SD boys for 200 with a faceup , wig and 2 pairs of eyes!-Great deal in my opinion. you can finde them at Mint On Card
I really want a MSD but I can't break my bank on it so I am looking for one under 200 to get with my Christmas money. So if you guys could suggest some sites that sell MSDs for under 200 it would be awesome.
Another option (not sure if it has been added to the above list) is Only-doll. They're being sold through Mint on Card ^^
Bobobie, Dollzone. If you check the MP here you can find dolls for under $200 that retailed higher. Happy Christmas money.
Latidoll have so pretty bjds! i saw one who really made me feel in love, im happy that they are cheaper than the other dolls =)
Soom / Neo Angelregion have quite a number of dolls under $300 and the Timp tinies are under $200. http://www.dollsoom.com/eng/shop/intro_content.php?co_id=neo_index
