    2. Is there a link for information on convention?

    3. Added some links to first post. Hope that helps.

    4. I can't believe it's been a year since I swung by on the free day, doll-less. I wonder if I'll be able to go with my doll this year. It was there I saw the only other ones I've seen in person.

    8. Drat, I totally missed out on this year. Does this event happen annually, and roughly the same time every year?
For a newbie to the event, having to fly in and get a hotel, what would you say is a good budget to save up? I'm guessing the convention doll would run around $500-$600?
I'm really hoping I can get myself to the event in 2018!

    9. Hopefully this will be helpful for next year:

My hotel room this year is $110 per night, plus taxes (close to $50). I think it was about the same two years ago (I didn't go last year). I live within driving distance so I'm just staying three nights at the hotel. If you are flying in, three nights might be do-able depending on when your flight arrives, so plan on ~$400 for three nights at the hotel, or ~$500 for four nights. You could try to find a roommate to bring that down, though.

The hotel apparently has an airport shuttle, so that takes care of that bit of expense :)

Then, you'll need to budget for any meals not covered on the schedule. The hotel food is pretty typical price-wise. If you want to get out into town for some other food options, you can take a bus for a few dollars, or find a convention-goer who is local and doesn't mind you bumming a ride.

Budget additional money to spend on the sales floor. Trust me ;) Most of the vendors I shopped from took credit, but because technology is fickle, have cash as a backup. And try to bring any dolls with you that you might want to buy items for so you can try things on them.

    10. Thank you so much for this info! It is definitely helpful, especially the tips about meals, and the airport shuttle.
Now I have a year to plan, and year to design myself a good carry on with lots of padding to bring several dolls with me. And then see how interesting going through airport security with them is. :D
Fingers crossed things don't break down around the house, the car keeps running reliably, and both the humans and the pets in our household stay healthy!:thumbup

    11. I plan to go. For those in Texas close to Austin there is a free shopping day. So you can visit and check out all the vendors and see all the dolls.

    12. Looking forward to seeing all of you there!! Bringing my gang of tiny bjds with me. :D

    13. Thank you so much for this information!
I won't be able to make it this year, but I'm already looking into going next year for sure! :D

    14. I just stumbled upon this info -- so Saturday is the free day I think I read? I definitely want to come browse!

    15. Yes. Saturday is the free sales day, They have a ton of vendors and also tables/chairs to hang out. It a great set-up.

    16. Thanks @ginarolo! I just got my first doll last month so I would love to come buy some clothes for him! I would bring him along but he's kind of naked right now save for underwear lol

    17. Bring him along! Nobody will care that he's lacking clothes and you'll be able to try things on him to assure good fit before you buy!

I'm going to be vending there, it's my first BJDC and I'm super excited!

Is there a community or sub forum where we discuss room shares? I'm looking for someone who has a room and would like to bring their costs down by sharing the room!

Oh, also! I posted this ad to the convention's Yahoo Group, but in case some folks here aren't over there, here it is again!:

    18. @emac bring your nude doll. There will be lots of clothes vendors and easier to size what will fit him. You can always make him a diaper or wrap a paper towel around him if he gets embarrassed. Lots of people bring their dolls nude to the sales floor for just that reason. Then they dress them up outside of sales room for doll meet photos. Last time they had little scenes for doll to take photo in. (Bring your camera.)

@nightengale This is the thread to ask for room share.

    19. Whew that makes me feel a lot better. :) Can't wait!

Oh neat! So some (or most?) vendors let you try things on? That would be so helpful -- my boy is a bit weirdly sized...

    20. I am excited to go again this year and can't wait to see some familiar faces and meet new ones. I'm struggling to pick the dolls I am going to bring with me. I may draw lots, lol.

    21. So is this con located in the Omni hotel itself? I can't find any other venue info on the website.

    22. Yes it is in the Omni, the Market room is a big ballroom.

    24. I'm heading for Austin today to visit my sister and will be at BJDC Market Day on Saturday. If you are there earlier and want to meet up. Use FB messenger or text me. PM me for my number.
I'm bringing Kise, Alistair, Equinox, Tiny Dominique and Jeye with me.
Plus some of my sales stuff, which includes the steampunk suit/outfit I made for Dollshe Arsene's body ( which I sold:roll:).

    31. It was so lovely meeting you and Kise at the convention, and seeing your little one with her new dress <3 Both had such beautiful wigs and style!

    32. I was a pleasure to meet you too!

    33. This was my first dollie con and I am so happy to have gone! It was nice to be able to meet some of the artists behind my beloved dolls and it was wonderful to meet new people in the community!!

    34. Hey, guys! What did you get on BJDC? Let's share!
My only purchase is a wig for Olivia, it fits her so nice!

    35. I spent far too much money. I'm sure that's a common feeling after the convention, though :XD: I bought several pairs of eyes, a wig, some outfits, props, and a tiny secondhand BJD. I also had one of my big girls completely restrung by the "doll doctor."

I found out that someone I work with also collects BJDs (and has an account here) when I saw her at the convention! It was surreal, but very cool :)

I also had some of my dolls photographed by Lakeida Sprenkle, who had a booth in the sales room. I believe she is still working on editing and uploading most of the photos, but here is one that she already sent me:

It was a fun convention, and I look forward to going back in 2019 :)

    36. This photo is fabulous! Almond also had a photo shoot by Lakeida, can't wait to see the result!

    37. Zardi, that is a gorgeous photo of your girl - and a gorgeous girl as well!! *I* am the aforementioned coworker!! It was surreal to me, too. I didn't even recognize you!! I mean, when you came up to me, some part of my brain knew you were someone I know, whose name I also know and a person I see regularly. But, there was some serious cognitive dissonance going on because I was also sure it was impossible that anyone I work with even knows what a bjd is. I was thrilled to see you there! But, seriously, if a talking goat had come up to me and said my name, it would have seemed like a more likely thing than one of my coworkers being there for the dolls.

There were a lot more dolls for sale this year on the sales floor! It was nice to see that. I hope the vendors did well. It was nice to see so many people attending the sales day!

    38. When is your next Austin meet up? I am from San Antonio & would like to join in.

    39. Dark Princess, I think it's still up in the air as to whether they're going to be doing it every other year or every year for now. But, you can follow it on the website:

      BJDC 2017

They should post information there once they decide on next year!!

    40. We're skipping a year so next BJDC in Austin Texas is 2019. The theme is set to be Christmas in July. I don't know if we've locked in the date yet but I suspect it'll be in July.
