BJDC Austin 2023

Feb 6, 2023

    1. Just wondering who here is going this year! I just paid for my ticket, and this is my first year going.

    2. I went on the open sales floor day 2022 and while I loved it I probably won't go this year. The drive through Austin is super nerve wracking for me and I'm pretty far out from the capital. I loved it everytime I went though and I hope it's a big success this year too!

    3. That is definitely a stressful area to drive through! I've done that drive many a time and it never gets any easier.

    4. As much as I would want to go, I hate going to downtown Austin. Like mentioned, it's a super stressful drive and while I live relatively close to the city, I just... hate downtown. Maybe if someone drives me.

    5. I'm going to try and make it to the open sales floor day too. I've only been once and it was years ago, it'll be nice if I can go again.

    6. I didn't know this was a thing, I'm going to look it up now.

    7. Is the open to public sales day one you can go to without a badge?

    8. I wanted to attend so badly this year, but I just don't think I'll be able to swing it. I've never attended a bjd convention before. What's the open sales floor like? It sounds magical!

    9. Curious about going on the open sales day, just to try it out. Right now I’m looking up ways to possibly bring a small doll along and safely show turn off. (Also: handy for ‘will these eyes work?’)

    10. First bjd convention for me! Will be bringing at least one 1/3 big boy, DOLKx touken ranbu collaboration cast doll Kashuu Kiyomitsu. Which workshops are you doing?

    11. I'll be there, first time, too! I'm gonna do the beginner workshop and the 3D printing one. Both of you should come say hi!

    12. I’ll be at the beginner workshop too! Then I’m running to the shoemaking one

    13. Nice, hope to see you there.

    14. I checked out the workshops list and there are so many! Dang I really want to go now....gotta see if I can swing it....

    15. We are super excited as we count down to BJDC next month...only 19 days to go!

What are you doing on June 17th? In the event you happen to be in the Austin/Central Texas area that day, you might want to know that day is our "Open to the Public Day"! Although there is no doubt the best BJDC experience is to attend the whole convention as an attendee to be able to attend all the events, have access to the workshops and get early access to the salesroom, it has long been the tradition to open up the salesroom to the general public on Saturday! For folks who can't make the whole convention, but can come in on Saturday, it's a BJD shopper's dream!

In fact, my first time coming to BJDC was to come on the free Saturday many years ago....I could not believe my eyes when I walked into the salesroom! It was beyond my wildest dreams...I had never seen anything like it in my life! Any and all things BJD can be found from the latest sculpts to those that are harder to find....and everything you need to customize your dolls from head to toe! You might walk out with a new doll (or dolls!), or that perfect outfit or accessory you have been looking for. You can also meet some of your favorite artists in person. I was hooked from that first visit and have been an attendee ever since!

We will be taking up an entire ballroom with artist and vendor tables (pssst...if you haven't checked out the vendor list yet, please do at BJDC TEXAS). Many of our artists and vendors are putting out new items just for Saturday!

If you can't make the whole convention but can come to Austin on Saturday, June 17th, please stop by our salesroom to shop and say Hi! The convention is at the Sheraton Austin at the Capitol. We'll be open from 10 am to 4 pm on Saturday.

Please note that only the salesroom will be open to the public; workshops and other events are for registered attendees only. Oh, and there is no fee to enter and we have discounted parking of $15 at the hotel! Questions? Message me (Debbie Hood) on FB, here or at [email protected]!

    16. So, I've had a chance to recover from all the fun, and just wanted to report that the convention was a blast! I'm new to BJD stuff, and conventions in general and wasn't sure what to expect, but I had a great time. Met lots of nice people, spent too much money, you know how it goes ;) I also learned how to paint heads and got to do my very first face up on a practice head! Everyone was really sweet and welcoming, and fingers crossed I can go next year! Thanks to everyone who organized it.

    17. Ditto! It was fun but next year I think I’ll stick to the “spend too much money” part and just go on the public day

Btw, are you ok after the con? A bunch of us tested positive after.

    18. Aw man, that's no fun. Thanks for checking in - I haven't had any symptoms, so fingers crossed I'm good. Hope you're over the worst of it now!

    19. Yeah just got back to work today but have no stamina. Had to clock out early. The only disappointment I had about the con was that there didn’t seem to be any provisions for a swap meet…?

    20. to get to this exhibition is my dream! but it's too long to fly from Italy to America, so every time I quietly envy), I look with pleasure at the photo reports of other lucky people who got to this exhibition-:)))
