BJDC 2008 Texas - Still has registration openings!

    1. The third annual Ball Jointed Doll Collectors Convention (BJDC 2008) in Austin, Texas, will be held September 18-20, 2008 at the Omni Hotel Southpark.This year's convention theme is "AT THE MOVIES". The Convention gift will be a special ensemble designed by Cristy Stone of XtremeDolls for your BJD. There are multi food events, a Competition, Door Prizes, Room Shopping, Demos/Workshops and a two-day Sales Floor. The first day of the Sale Floor is for the convention attendees only and the second day will be open to the public. We do have registration openings.

      The word vendor was singular instead of plural. No biggie. Just wanted to make sure everyone got to see who will be at the convention. I've enjoyed the past two and can't wait for this year.

      1 -Join idolls - the yahoolist for the convention -- it will have the update info.
      Bookmark the webpage for the convention - announcements are posted there as well.

      2 -Make your room reservations AHEAD of time. The convention has a special room rate until Aug. 27th. Want a roomate? post a "Want a roomate" message on DOA, iDolls or ZoneofZen.

      3 - Apply for Select Guest with the hotel ... lots of little extras if you do!

      4 - Bring a sweater - hotels keep the conference rooms freezing!

      5 - Bring Money -
      2 days of Room Shopping and 2 days of Sales floor!!

      6 - Bring an empty suit case to lug all your convention buys back home :sweat

      7 - Set up Paypal to pay by phone ahead of time.

      8 - There is a cash machine in the Hotel lobby -- always good to know where that is! Most vendors and dealers take personal checks and cash. Room sales are usually individuals -- there less consistency for payment.

      9 - Bring a couple dolls with you -- There will be LOADS of accessories for sale -- clothing, wigs, shoes, eyes etc. If you have a doll with you - you can try everything on!

    14. The registration fee covers the exclusive doll outfit designed by Cristy Stone and 3 days of food - plus workshop, demos and a sales floor.

      It is what it is. The convention is set up to put the money collected back into the convention itself.

    18. It's 3 days of the most BJD fun, food, friends, shopping, meeting, learning, laughing you can have for $180 (and the Hotel is nice too) ;) . Quite a bargain I think!

Just so you know...most of our convention budget goes for food and the hotel facilities (banquet and meeting rooms for three days, waiters and set-up, audio and visual rental and miscellaneous hotel fees) and the rest pays for the convention outfit, publicity and printing the souvenir book, lanyards and tote bags for participants. We include a lot of food, because the hotel (near the airport for convenience) does not have a lot of dining places around it. Most of the door prizes are donated by our fabulous vendors and club members (and attendees, if they wish), but if after the bills are all paid we happen to have any money left over, we buy even more door prizes from our vendors to give away to attendees. Our doll club members donate their time and talents to make this convention a fun experience for everyone who attends (including ourselves).

    26. (dumb question) On Saturday it says the sales floor will be open to Public... that means you do not need to pay any thing to get into that or is there a small admission fee?

    27. This is going to be such a GREAT con . . . I'm so EXCITED!! There has been so much planning and detail going into it. :D

      I'd HIGHLY RECOMMEND those on the fence to join in the FULL FUN and see what a great experience it will be with tons of goodies, and seminars, doll friends, and tons of opportunties, and a banquet - all included in the price. Just walking onto a sales floor for a few hours does not represent what the whole con is about in my humble opinion. And yes, I think there is a charge just to attend the sales room.

    34. I can't wait! I hit the sales floor at the last minute (literally an hour before they started packing up) last year. This year I'm going to do the whole three days :) I've never even been to a meet-up before, so I'm excited and a little nervous.

      That is part of the experience :)

      There are some definite benefits to being on the sales floor when it first opens ... Last year,BJDollarama had loads of Doll Heart Shoes and outfits but the best ones sold first! Cristy Stone of Xtremedoll had lots of outfits but some really fantastic ones were gone in a blink of an eye!

      Unless you have been to a convention - there is no way to really describe the excitement, fun and energy. All those dolls and people in one place! ;)

    37. This is a great group of people -- those helping and those coming. :fangirl:

      oh ... my first BJD convention I was so overwhelmed. So many people and things to see and experience! Probably most nerve wracking was being interview for Japanese TV by Volks! It is hard to believe that was in July 2004. BJDs have come a long way since then!!:roll:

      I want invite all the newcomers to say Hi to me.
      I will be there at registration -- I should be easy to spot!! I am planning on wearing my BJDC 2008 white teeshirt. :lol:

      REMINDER: Hotel room block is almost sold out - make your reservations as soon as possible if you have not done so yet. It is a cheaper rate than the regular rate. Deadline is Aug. 27th for the special pricing.

    39. Sherri is right. All the best stuff sells out the first day. Last year I made the mistake of allowing room sales for my limiteds and one off outfits and most of them sold before they hit the sales floor. I felt bad that a lot of people didn't get to see them before they sold out. So I will only be showcasing them this year and they won't be available for sale until the sales floor opens.

      I will try to set aside a couple of outfits to put out on Sunday, but the number of one offs depends on how busy my sewing paws are the next few weeks. lol

    53. I don't know where else to post this, but I need help!!

      I was supposed to go up and room with a woman named Joan-but I don't think she's had power since the storm, and it was always hard getting ahold of her. Well, without her I have nobody to bring up my stage! I'm flying and despite the fact that it folds completely flat we just don't have a bag wide enough for it. Is anyone driving up from either around the Clear Lake/Kemah area or Houston in general?

    54. o.k i just made reservations at a hotel. unfortunately is is 10miles away.

      Can anyone give me advice of when i should leave the hotel, due to traffic, finding a parking spot & the waiting line.. if the dealers room opens at 10am?

I thought I would post a picture of my Liz wearing the seven piece convention outfit designed by Cristy Stone... it was great... the hat is by Marsha Trent and I added it to the outfit, and wrapped the scarf that came with the outfit around the brim.... I had a great time but am still recovering..! Loved meeting everyone!!
