BJD shops in Paris, France?

Feb 20, 2009

    1. My daughters are currently on a short vacation in Paris (visiting their brother).

I'm trying to get a BJD - maybe an Elfkin, Puki Puki or Lati White e.g. - a tiny BJD that is. It's so expensive for me to get a doll send to Europe, so I thought there might be a shop somewhere in Paris that actually sell these dolls, so my daughters could bring one home with them.

Anyone here that knows about such a shop? I've searched the internet; but no luck as of yet. I've found places that sell larger BJDs - not the kinds that are shown in this forum, though (different kinds of artist/collector dolls); but not these small ones.

My daughters are coming home Sunday, so it's rather urgent.

If you know of such a shop in Paris please - oh please - let me know.

Edited: This can be closed. I've established contact with a seller in Paris through Materiel Celeste and now (almost) own my first bjd. :D

    2. Bump for this question, My dear husband Jonathan (yes, the same one who got me both Chibi's) is taking me for a quick visit to Paris next weekend. Anything BJD in Paris?

    3. I only know of Wind Dolls in France; but I think that's an online shop only - and I don't know where in France it's located. Here's a link to the shop - you could mail them and ask: http://winddoll.creezvotreboutique.com/index.php?language=en

I do know of a museum with dolls; but I haven't been there, so I don't know if it's any good. How much abjd stuff they have (if any) I don't know either; but they do sell some doll clothes... Check it out yourself: http://www.museedelapoupeeparis.com/shop.html

    4. Congrats on finding youre Doll!

Well, I already planned to go to the museum!

      any other advise?

    5. Anyone? :)

    6. Alas, no one answered my call before my visit!

Did go to the museum though. It was a very pleasant surprise to me that i really liked the museum even though they type of dolls they display is not a kind im really into.

The museum mainly features the so-called BeBe's, mainly by Jumeau and Bru, but also by other, mostly European makers. Overall this part of the museum gave a nice impression of earlier dolls. I must say having never seen these dolls IRL i actually quite liked the molds. But o those face-ups. Especially the eyebrows! The doll with the larger pink hat in cabinet 11 made me want to smash the glass and sand those mega wide, far to dark far to close together eyebrows off.
Dont forget to look ontop of the display cabinet's, where you'll find a nice selection of doll furniture.

The temporary exibition is about 1/12 miniatures. I loved, loved this part. So well made, so detailed. Absolutely stunning. A must see for anyone going to Paris.

Most interesting was the museum shop! THEY DO SELL BJD!. At this moment the BJD collection is quite small. While i was there they had two Pomello's, one unidentified MSD and two tinies (Bobobie?). These are all displayed in artificial light in a glass cabinet. They have a small range of outfits and shoes. Love the black MSD boots, but was overspending so did not get them. Before my visit the shop had quite a large collection of Boneka tiny clothing. There is a nice collection of Tonner/Tyler/Kitty Collier/Agnes Dreary dolls/oufits. Also wigs, mainly for LeeAnn. Small collection of random vintage and modern toy dolls and outfits.

Shop has its own entreance, no need to visit the museum if you only want to shop. Museum is located at only 2 minutes walking distance from the centre Pompidou. Exposition rooms are well lit. The museum is not overcrowded.

    7. I'm happy you liked it. I did hear a lot of good about the museum though I never got to see it myself. I've been in Paris on 3-4 occasions; but that was before my interest in dolls, unfortunately...

Even though I haven't made a single faceup myself - yet - I also want to change faceups on all those creepy-awful-looking old porcelain dolls. Some of them are ugly in my opinion - and I wonder why dollmakers at that time didn't do it better. Then again - some of the vinyl dolls that are sold today - to our children - are also very ugly. ;)
