BJD Project Runway: Take II (Main Thread)

Jul 26, 2010

    1. We might use themes again as time goes on and demand appears.

The next challenge will begin on April 1st (no April Fool's day joke there). We hope to have it posted in the next week for people to join.

    3. I have two questions:

      1. May we use slopers that we have created for the doll as a starting point for a new design?
      2. Once we enter the contest, do we wait until the starting date to choose/buy our fabric and draw our design or can we do the prep work before and just work on the outfit once the starting date comes?

    4. Yes, you can use slopers. Many seamtresses use them as the foundation for their patterns.

Technically all work should begin on the starting date, but we don't 'police' people. I'm sure a lot of designers choose fabrics and start thinking up designs before the starting date!

    6. Hi, a quick question regarding Challenge 5 - when you say "queen" and "king" costume, does the costume have to represent the gender? i.e. if I have a boy doll, can I enter for the 'queen' costume, and vice versa?

      Thanks!

    8. This question would be better in the challenge thread, as it is challenge specific, but I'll answer it in both places. Given the craziness associated with Mardis Gras...Sure. :)

    9. For clairfication, there will only be ONE winner. King & Queen are not two seperate categories. Sorry for the confusion!

Cross dressing is allowed. Boys can dress in female attire and vise versa. That's the fun thing about Mardi Gras ~ anything goes!

    11. Hello everyone! I have a couple announcements to make.

First, the winners to the fifth challenge have been posted!

Second, after many long hours of deliberation, I have decided to step down as manager to BJD Project Runway. Elfmoon will continue and Rross is stepping up to the plate to join her. So I'd like to ask you all to welcome Rross to her new role and I hope you will give Rross the same support you've given me. I am sorry to be leaving, but outside responsibilities have gotten in the way. I hope to continue to participate in other ways, so this won't be the last you'll see of me! Thank you all for being so wonderful all these months as Elfmoon and I sorted out the game system and got things up and running. We did our best and in turn saw your best, and for that I am truly honored. Thank you for a great run and a great time! I'll be seeing you soon!

I'll be joining as soon as I decide who to enter. But I have a really good idea it will be my green girl:)

Nevermind I just reread the thread...duh...it says our solar system..lol

    15. Quick question regarding doll entries. Is it allowed to switch doll bodies/heads if they are the same size and gender but the resin colour and head sculpt, for example, is different?

      Thanks!!

    16. Yes, that's fine. We ask the company name and sculpt mainly so that fans of the game will be able to identify the different dolls.

The only thing important to us is how many tinies are entered, 6" and under. This is because tinies are awarded one extra point by the judges due to the difficulity of sewing for such small dolls.

    24. Rosalynmouse ~

The deadline to join our current contest, The Rock & Roll Fantasy challenge, ended on April 1st so you just missed it.

      This is the thread:

      http://www.denofangels.com/forums/s...y-the-rock-and-roll-fantasy-challenge-game-11

The next challenge will be posted on or around May 14th and designers will have until June 1st the sign up. The contest will begin on June 1st and end on June 30th.

There is also a Project Runway chat thread where designers and fans are welcome to leave comments

      http://www.denofangels.com/forums/showthread.php?441340-Project-Runway-Chat-Thread

I'm not sure what you mean by trades, but Project Runway is a clothing design/sewing contest and we don't trade clothing.

    29. I don't understand "reserving." Does it mean the required information can be added after the deadline? If not, then what does it accomplish?

Or, are there only a limited number of entries allowed? If so, I think they should go to the people who are prepared to make their entry post with the required information.

    31. kcurry9 - I think that they're reserving the spot to post their outfits later in the challenge so that they don't all end up at the end.

    32. kcurry9 ~ Honestly I don't know why designers 'reserve' a spot. There is no limit to the number of designers that can enter.

The entry form must be posted before the deadline or the designer is disqualified. I guess they do it to make their intention known and they can add the form at a later date after they've decided which doll they want to use. Also it tends to keep the entries all in one place instead of scattered throughout the thread.

Implingz ~ You can post design sketches and in progress photos in the game thread in a separate post from your entry form. I don't see the harm in posting these photos in other hosing sites. However, we do ask that you not post the completed costume on another site until you've post it in the PR thread.

    33. I see, it's just a way to get a good "post position." (Sorry, can't resist a good pun.) It seems like it would make it more difficult for the organizers to keep track, but since it's OK, I'm off to stake out some territory of my own. It's been a while since I was able to participate, but I think I can manage it this time around, and the medieval Arab challenge is quite intriguing.

    34. PLEASE READ!

This post is a response to a question I received in a PM.

The question was if the cost of props is part of the $25 spending limit.

Props can be purchased, unless the challenge states they are to be handmade, which doesn't happen very often. Accessories must be made by hand unless otherwise stated in the challenge. Any item that is handmade is part of the $25 spending limit if it is a required part of the challenge.

Accessories that are normally worn with garments, such as belts, shoes, socks, and nylons can be purchased and are not included in the spending limit.

Any prop that is not a required part of the challenge, whether purchased or hand made, is not included in the spending limit.

      Does this make sense?

    37. Some questions to be clarified.
I have seen multiple times that shoes, socks, nylons and such can be purchased. That they are not accessories in the judging per se. But I also saw one post that said if those were made, to let the judges know. In that case would a written note as well as pictures be needed?
I'm also seeing a lot of talk about props. Is there a line between props and accessories? For instance if I made a belt, that would be an accessory, but if I made a sword to go with it its a prop? Or would that be two accessories?
Also a side to the material cost. I like to shop for stuff at the goodwill and have found that I can get two outfits from a $3 shirt. For cost estimate would I say the whole $3 or break it down to the $1.50 that goes into this outfit? I know figuring the cost of scraps is hard, but I tend to be all over the place with that... Old sheets that I made a skirt out of for me, and same with drapes. Once I use enough that I can't make people clothes I considered them complete value used. Now I have the dolls and those scraps suddenly aren't dusting rags for mom, or waxing rags for dad...

    38. BlissfullyModest ~ I'll try to answer your questions so that they make sense.
The rules state that an accessory has to be hand made by you. So if you include a hat, purse, backpack, ect that you made then they're accessories. If you purchased them they're props. If you made a sword yourself then it's an accessory. No points are awarded for props.
If you make nylons, leggings, shoes or boots they're accessories. You don't have to send a note. When you post your entry just state that you made them so the judges will know they're accessories.
As far as scraps go if you have 1/4 of fabric and use 1/4 yard then it's full price. We don't ask for a break down of how much you spent on your outfit because of the difficulty of assigning value to scraps. We trust our designers to use their best judgement. Also remember that the $25.00 limit includes the cost of the entire outfit, not just fabric, so you're using lace, beads, leather, feathers, ect that cost needs to be counted.
      I hope this helps!
