BJD Pattern Index

Dec 20, 2006

    1. Welcome to the BJD pattern book index!

      Big Update!
      http://bjdpatterns.wordpress.com/

Feb 8/08 - I just found out about Adams-Harris Pattern Company! I absolutely love her patterns! I want them all! Also, the Super Dollfie Dress Book volume 2 is out!

Jan 20/08 - I've updated with some new individual pattern makers. I also updated with more information on the ever awesome Japanese pattern books like Little Princess Closet Room, Couturerie Recipe, and Queer Dream. I want to get links up to all the amazing translations that Cambird has been doing, but it will have to wait for now.

I'm working on getting caught up with Haute Doll. If you own any of the magazines, please let me know if I'm missing any patterns. I'd also like to know if there are no patterns.

This is a reference for anyone interested in locating doll patterns. You can view pictures of the completed patterns by clicking on the + symbol.

Due to the nature of DOA in regards to image/text limits I've decided to move the pattern book listing to WordPress, which is a really great blog/journal host. With WordPress the listing will be easier to navigate because it makes use of tags so you can search for specific books, or specific doll types. I've been working on this slowly for the past few months and I figure it's about time I launched it. ^_^

If you notice any mistakes, please let me know so I can make corrections. If you have one of the listed pattern books and want to contribute more information, please feel free to PM me or post in this thread. I'm also in need of scans or photographs of the finished patterns as they appear in the magazines.
If there's a book with no BJD patterns in it, I want to know!

I'm looking for the following information about each pattern:
      • the size/type of doll it's for
      • the pattern creator's name/brand
      • the name of the outfit (if applicable)
      • a list of each individual piece of the outfit
      • page numbers
      • pictures!
Thanks guys! I just want to make it easier for everyone to decide which books to buy.

      FAQ

      Q: Where can I buy _______ book?

A: A lot of the books listed are now out of print, which makes them harder to find. Try searching at:
      http://www.ebay.com/
      http://amazon.jp/

    3. What a great idea! *pounces on pattern book hoard*

Dolly Dolly Coordinate Recipe #4 [Second Book of Four Leaf Clover Patterns, has a red-headed Momoko in a bathing suit on the front]

Two complete Unoa V1 Large Bust Outfits which include:
      -A lace-accented tube top
-Two pairs of jeans: one regular, one skinny leg
      -A long, plain knit jacket
-A short, ornamented knit jacket (almost a shrug)
      -One tulle-overlay dress
      -One spaghetti strap tulle-overlay babydoll
--The book calls them both one-pieces, but only one could be worn alone as a dress as the other is too short
-One high-neck cutsew (I would call it a turtleneck)

      Pictures: Pages 30-31
      Patterns and instructions: Pages 84-88

There is a translation of the instructions floating around on this forum.

Dollybird #6 [The one with the FR Kyori against a neon pink leopard print backdrop]

      Momolita MSD* Girl
-Shirt with frilled collar and sleeves
      -Cravat
      -Jacket
      -Skirt

*Anyway, these are MSD as far as I can tell. They aren't labeled very clearly, but the model looks like an MSD, and there aren't any instructions to enlarge the pattern pieces.

      Photos and instructions: 94-97
The pattern pieces are in the paper insert in the back, printed on the other side of the Salt Valley Unoa Boy patterns, which are easier to spot.

Salt Valley Unoa V1 Boy Separates
      -Tank top
      -Dress shirt
      -Jacket
      -Jeans

These are VERY complicated, detailed patterns.

      Photos and instructions: Pages 114-119
The pattern pieces are somewhere in the paper insert in the back. They take up one side of one sheet. You can't miss them.

I also have Dollybird #4, but I will have to post the info for that later I'm afraid.

      • x 1
    4. Do you have a picture of the cover? (Or a link to the book on ebay or Amazon JP or something?) I don't think I know which book that is ^_^

    5. I found my Dollybird 4 so here's some more info:

      More deep... by Heart Break
*SD13 boy size (Tokkoufuku (long coat worn by biker gangs), pants) pg. 86

      By 少女劇団*蜥蜴座 (Shoujogekidan*tokageza)
*U-noa size (Onepiece, drawers, socks, bonnet, bib) pg. 80/front cover
*SD size (Onepiece, pannier, leggings) pg. 84

      By Dolls Drug Kingdom
MSD size (Gathered frilly blouse, pumpkin pants) pg. 82

*One part kimono, two part kimono, juban (under kimono), hakama and obi in SD10, SD13, MSD, and Ken (That might fit 26cm bjds?) sizes.

      Ta da! :)

    6. Oh boy! Thanks Cambird! Perchance do you have a translation for how one operates the kimono instructions? I haven't been able to make heads or tails of them (and bought the issue for them).

      Anyway...

      Dolly Dolly #4
Closet Freak MSD Girl "Traveling Girl" set
      -Nightgown and slip
-What looks like a victorian overdress for traveling and an embroidered capelet
      -Long-sleeved sailor dress with hat
      -Short-sleeved spring dress
-Blouse with a vest and pleated skirt
      -Overcoat and berret-ish hat
      Photos: Pages 24-30
      Patterns and Instructions: 113-118

      SD/SD13 Boy Items by ???
-Long coat (they show it made with very light fabric and it's not very detailed- it almost makes me think more of a duster)
      -Sleeveless top
      -Scarf
      -SD13 pants
      -SD shorts

There is no mention on the patterns for the top and coat as to what models they are for. I would assume they fit both, but they are shown on the SD13 model in the photo.

      Photos: Page 34
      Patterns and Instructions: Pages 119-121

    7. Here is my contribution so far. This one is really hard to guess what everything is, so please forgive me if I'm wrong. :sweat I'm hoping to get these patterns translated once I eventually get around to scanning them. *winks at Cambird* ;)

Or at least they SHOULDN'T be *checks*.

    10. Dolly Dolly 11
      No BJD Patterns ;_;

      Dolly Dolly 12
-SD10/SD13 girl Kimono and Juban: Page 43
-SD13 boy Kimono and Juban: Page 44
-MSD girl Kimono and Juban: Page 45
The included instructions are better illustrated than those in Dollybird 4 and include several obi. The patterns are the kind with a slight flare at the shoulder of the center parts, as opposed to the more commonly seen kind with straight shoulders.

Kimono painting lesson starting on Page 60 [Patterns page 48]

There is also a crochet lesson which shows how to make an MSD/Unoa-sized scarf, headwrap and muff. [Page 67]

And finally, there are three Japanese purse patterns in the back. [Page 157]

    11. Here's the VDR blog http://vdr.jugem.jp/
... I'm not too sure if it was possible to order the books through there when they were first released, but your best bet to to check Yahoo!Japan. (They usually pop up there)

      Edit: here's another link: http://kokonoe.kilo.jp/vdr/top.html

    12. Updates!

      Dollybird 5
-The Chocolab set consists of wristlets, a cap with lamb ears, a blouse and half pants with a fluffy tail. The cap and blouse are shown made with furry fabric.

VdR1 Contains one folded paper pattern insert.

VdR 2 also has a set of SD13 boy pajamas as seen on page 17. Title is "Sleepy Morning". The picture of "As Usual" is actually on page 20. The MSD labcoat, half pants and shirt set is mismarked on the pattern sheets as being for 22cm dolls. Contains three paper pattern inserts.

Couturerie Recipe 2 I THINK is for SD10/13 girls. It's for 1/3 scale dolls at the very least and the pants are in no way large enough for an SD13 boy. The pattern parts are numbered. There are no line drawings of the finished items, though there are in progress representations and lots of photos. It includes:
-Button-up blouse with pintucks and a sailor collar
      -Half pants
      -Socks
      -Suspenders
      -Berret
      -Long, ruffled underskirt

Thanks to everyone who helped me in obtaining these books! I am currently waiting on Closet Room 1 and hope to get the Vanilla Sky book as well before having my Y!J orders shipped to me. I keep loosing that one to snipers *shifty eyes at DoA sewing thread XD*.

P/S: On the side, I'm looking to buy any Japanese pattern books with Yo-SD patterns. PM me if you have anything to offer! ^_^

    14. Shan, you big meaniepants. I'm supposed to be keeping my money for my move XD. You aren't helping!

Ahem. I got one book from each of those sellers, so hopefully I can speak to the quality of each one in a few weeks. I'm a hopeless hoarder.

I have found Vanilla Sky 1! It's at the shipping center now. I just need to call in the shipment. More updates soon!

In other news, Dolly Dolly 13, from what my translator has gathered, is a special extra-large issue with a feature on FCS dolls. Will it be another item for Mel's fab list? Better darn well be!

Edit: There is at least one BJD pattern in DD13. What it is I don't know yet, but it is SD13 sized.

    16. Lets see here.

      Nonante Orange Chocolate
      Maid Costumes SD/SD13 Girl
(You can tell which one this is because they post the page with the sketches as one of the pictures)
There are actually four maid costumes in it:
      -French Maid (short skirt)
      -Modern Maid (short skirt)
-Modern Maid (long skirt, looks somewhat like a "traditional" Japanese housemaid non-kimono outfit)
      -Formal European-style Maid (middle-length skirt)

These are really adorable patterns but they need drafted and the instructions are a little bizarre.

Atelier Monira MSD Girl Book 2
      Exactly as Shan listed it.
The patterns and text are HUGE and really easy to understand. I can't wait to try one! And at 1,250 yen, this is one of the best and cheapest books I've ever bought (a tie with Doll Candy V1 for best overall).
They're Dutch auctions so you'll probably have to request a manual bid from your deputy service, but it will be worth it!
Also note that the patterns in this book do NOT have seam allowances.

Vanilla Sky Dress Up Recipe #1
-One SD13 Boy Shirt with two variations (long sleeves with cuffs and sleeveless, though there is no pattern part for the ruffles shown on the latter)
-One pair of SD13 Boy pants (no variations, though they take many patterns types and could easily be shortened based on the way the patterns are printed).
These are boy patterns by the Little Princess crew. This booklet includes their wonderful diagram for turning tiny cuffs. Includes very nice photos of dolls cavorting in the included outfits.

      Little Princess Closet Room #1
Exactly as described. Really nice, clear instructions which also include their cuff-turning diagram and how to use pre-pintucked fabric. Includes very nice photos of dolls cavorting in the included outfits.
Note: It looks to me as if there is some sort of a mistake on the pattern for the skirt of the babydoll dress. The folded fabric icon [denoting the middle of the skirt] and the instructions for how to finish the back are printed on the same edge. I can't really tell which side was supposed to be what, but there's a 50% chance of picking the 'right' one!

And I forgot to mention for the second DDK book: there are a bunch of outfits NOT INCLUDED shown in the doll photographs. *grrr* This is not the case for Little Princess 1 or Vanilla Sky 1.

    17. Here is a site for more patterns.
Hers are cool cause you can download them!

      http://www.dolloutfits.com/
Her patterns are to scale and her instructions ary very well planned out with photos.

    18. Just a quick update- Nonante listed some single dress patterns with their last batch. I spied a maid and a bunch of Lolita stuff. So you might want to check through their auctions if you go to buy something, there may be some surprises in there. And these are patterns, not drafting instructions.

Edit: Upon testing the Atelier Monira patterns, it turns out they do have seam allowances but they aren't drawn on. Sorry for the confusion!

Edit 26 June: Upon further examination, the Orange Chocolat booklet with the maid outfits is people sized X_X. Whoops. I mean, you could make doll outfits with it I'm sure but that's not what it's for.

There is an SD13 Boy pattern in Dolly Dolly 13. I think it may be a punk outfit?
There are no BJD patterns in Dolly Dolly CR5.

Edit 28 June: I got my Nonante patterns in the mail today! Nonante itself charged me an arm and a leg for domestic shipping, but the pattern is awesome! It came printed on heavy cardstock with instructions, a business card for Nonante and a brochure advertising their other single patterns. The pattern themselves are hand drawn, but meticulous. Very nice. I'd buy more than one at a time is all XD.

    19. OK! Sorry to make another post but this one is going to be pretty long and I needed the room.

      First: Addendums

Doll Candy had a free Lolita dress pattern on the website for the book. The site is in renewal at the moment and so the pattern isn't available at the moment, but the dress itself looks like this:

Here's a picture of the mandarin jacket from the BJD Orbyrarium.

And here is the Haute Doll January 2007 wa-loli dress.
This is the MSD sized pattern as it prints from the files on the Haute Doll website. The doll in the image is a Serendipity Shall, so as you can see, the pattern prints sized for skinny minis/MNF/Unoa ect.

Single patterns from Nonante include, but are not limited to:
-MSD long sailor blouse and bloomers

    20. Haute Doll for Oct 2007 issue has two BJD patterns. Heirloom embroiderd dress for a tiny Bambicrony. The second is for a Vermillion Sailor ensemble for a full sized boy.

    21. I've heard there are BJD patterns in both Dolly Dolly 14 and Dollybird 9.

The ones in Dolly Dolly 14 are PROBABLY knitting or crochet although I think I saw a 60cm girls' dress in one of the ebay adds. Someone else is going to have to confirm this as I can't knit or crochet for the life of me. Sorry ^_^;.

Dollybird 9 has for "SD, yo-sd, u-noa" according to my source. It's not actually out yet, so no specifics. I wouldn't be surprised though if the "unoa" meant for the Unoa Zeros since this will be the issue with the lottery entry form.

I had heard from one person that there were no BJD patterns in Dolly Dolly 18, but another person just contradicted the first source! Any insight into this matter?

An artist named "Chang Hsiu Mei" has 3 books of BJD patterns out. You can find them on ebay sometimes.

    34. Has anyone mentioned these: http://www.amazon.co.jp/スーパードルフィードレ...et-worksほか/dp/4990185722/ref=pd_bxgy_b_img_b?

There are three of these Super Dollfie Dress books and they look like a really good buy to me! I've got vols. 1+3. They have life size patterns and very easy to follow photo guide instructions. I'll try making something one of these days.

Vol 1 has got 12 patterns for SD girl's dresses including a wa-loli dress, a maid outfit and a wedding dress.

Vol 3 has got 9 patterns for SD girl's clothes:
      School uniform sailor suit
      Nurse's uniform
      Bank teller!
      Baseball shirt, shorts and cap
      Chinese-style dress
Car show demonstrator outfit (smart suit dress)
Self defense force uniform with mini skirt
      Mini Miko dress
      Nun's habit

I suppose now that I think of it Vol 3 is all sexy stereotypes, but they're still nice. :sweat

    35. Dolly dolly 19 has patterns for an MSD kimono set:
      Underkimono
      Lined kimono
      Shawl
      Patchwork bag
      Goldfish-shaped bag
      Child's apron
      Ragdoll

It's a cute set, but kimono patterns have been done before, so it's a bit disappointing. It's not very clearly laid out either. There are hardly any pictures of it sadly. The apron doll and bags are very nice.

    36. Yeah, Dolly Dolly 19 is NOT the book to get for the kimono O_O.

But, the Sweet Doll Works books are great for SD items. I keep meaning to grab V2 (I have V1).

      Anyway, moving on~.

Chang Hsiu Mei on eBay runs a very nice assortment of patterns for various dolls. 3, 4, 7 & 8 are BJD-based. 8 is all Yo-SD sized, the rest are assorted. The outfits work up really nicely, even without decorating them as enthusiastically as she suggests ^^.

Dolly Dolly 18 has an MSD fancy dress write-up as part of the MSD clothing feature that's been running since 16. It includes headbands and puff sleeves and ruffles. It's very country Lolita.

Dolly Dolly 20's MSD feature is:
      -Apron top
      -Pajama pants
      -Simple Dress
      -Qui Pao top
      -Tote bag.

Dolly Dolly 21 has LOTS of handbag patterns, some of them aimed at BJDs, and the rest easy to scale up. The MSD clothing feature includes:
      -Square neck top
-Vintage dress with Peter Pan collar
      -Sleeveless dress
      -Stuffie fox stole
-And one more thing that just went out my ear.

      Dollybird 12
-SD Edwardian dress with lace inserts (it's kind of nuts!)
-DDK SD13 boy sailor shorts set
-Unoa 1.5 corset, garters and panties
-SD13 Boy jean jacket and trousers
      -SD ruffled dress by Mugendou
-Unoa 0 ruffled top and trousers

Dollybird 13 Also has a handbag feature, but it's more BJD-geared. There's an extensive shoe write up with sizings for Unoa 1.5s and SD girls. I believe the artist is "Santi" or "Anti"? I actually can't read the font they used! Also by this person:
      -SD Short dress
      -Unoa blouse+miniskirt dress
Then, there's a bunch of patterns by Honey Meryl.
      -Unoa 0 jacket
      -Unoa 0 leggings
      -Unoa 0 V-neck long-sleeved top
      -Unoa 0 frilly panties
      -Unoa 1.5 hotpants (so short!)
      -Unoa 1.5 babydoll top
      -Unoa 1.5 granny dress
And even more by Kanihoru (see Coordinate Recipe 6), for tiny fairy and Unoa 1.5, super 80's stuff like jeans with stirrups and headbands.
      And finally
-MSD ruffled dress, same person who did the Edwardian dress in 12
-A leggings, long t-shirt and cow hoodie by Kinoko Juice for their Kiki doll
Plus, tutorials for basket weaving, flower-making, and hat synthesis.

    38. Recently I bought a new-to-me pattern book on Y!J, and I don't see it mentioned in this thread yet. I'll come back and post scans of the outfit images later, when I have time.

Closet Boy, 13 boy paper pattern book. Vol. I. The date on the booklet seems to be October 2008, and the designers are listed as Camu and TOMATO21.
18-page booklet with insert of full-sized patterns (seam allowances included, as best I can tell).
There are two pages of tips/instructions that I haven't tried to translate yet.
The pattern shapes look really simple, even for a non-sewer like me! The patterns are:
      boxy T-shirt
      pull-on pants or shorts
      long-sleeved mock-turtleneck top
pull-on shorts with cargo pocket and cuffs
frilly sleeveless shirt and bloomer shorts
      hooded jacket

Only one of the designers' websites listed in the back of the booklet is still up, but the site has a shop with several pattern books for sale!

    39. Dollybird 14 (The Obligatory Alice Issue)
-Dollfie Dream Sleeveless dress and jacket with half-sleeves (def. for one of the fairly large busts)
-Dollfie Dream Maid costume of the very formal variety.
-MSD Sleeveless dress, tank top and drop-crotch shorts
-Unoa 1.5 girls short dress and and overdress, by Little Princess (very underwear-like)
-Unoa 1.5 girls lacy Alice dress
-Unoa 1.5 girls Victoran dress with apron and underskirt
-Unoa 1.5 boys ruffled shirt, short pants and waistcoat (positively adorable!)
-Unoa 0 Alice dress with layered skirt and flounced sleeves (also, undershorts XD)
^ This is NOT an SD13 pattern despite the remarks below. Please do not attempt to put it on an SD13 girl. SD16 MAYBE, but not SD13.

Dolly Dolly 23: MSD Girls Feature
A series of short sleeved summer dresses and also a darling purse with lace and beads.

    40. WaWa Doll patterns

sd10 - Pink Princess - this is not so much a gown as a confection with ostritch featers and a ceramic face stitched to the bodice, without however it is quite pretty
sd10 - Easter parade - a baby doll dress that a party store threw up on - again it's nicer without the embellishments
sd10 = my little rabbit - a victorian dress of layers with apron and matching bunny ear hat - is actually very cute
yo-sd = you're my angle - a sort of toga dress, the pictures of it aren't very flattering
yo-sd = rose garden = a frilled and very pretty dress with bonnet
sd10 = toy's party time = a dress with high bodice, not quite empire line - covered in patches with matching bonnet
sd13boy = chinese confu set - pants, shirt and jacket with sash - the photo shows this worked in kimono brocade
sd16 girl = midnight dance - a sweetheard necked, puffed sleeve princess bodice with skirt with tiered ruffles - this is the only princess bodice in the book

      pictures forthcoming

    41. dollybird 14

Sweet mushroom - modelled on a unoa lusis - an empire line "alice" dress with lace trim applique, bloomers and apron - this is the cover pattern

Momoko - open backed pinafore with tiered skirt - possibly one to size up....

strangeness by Little Princess - a white dress for unoa with liberty bodice and bloomers

melancholic alice - sd13 a light dress with ribbon trim, short but medieval in styling

Alice in Wonderland Museum by Freie - a pinafore for girls and vest and dropped crotch shorts for boy - i cant make out the doll's size sorry

Alice - sd10 - poupee mecanique - a simple victorian dress with collar, lace front, cuffs and apron - it actually looks very like violet in a series of unfortunate adventures

The mad hatter - sd10, jacket with tails, tailored shorts, shirt with lace front and granddad collar, socks with suspender and hat

dd - french maid's dress - this is elegant with pearl buttons and pencil skirt

dd - white dress with lace up jacket - this is gorgeous and very hard to describe, it has a puritan style bodice on the jacket with half length sleeves and square neckline which is laced up the front, the dress itself has a pin tucked dior style skirt and princess bodice, it's sleeveless with tab straps and lace trim that is visible under the jacket.

      pictures to follow

these books cater for sizes up to and including Unoa but also include complete photographic instructions which are literally some of the very best I've seen.
The come in casual and more formal

      Pleated knee length skirt
      Tailored blouse
      Frilled vest, bloomers and socks
      tote bag

    45. I have one to add to this list. When you're trying to find a used book, always use http://www.bookfinder.com . Bookfinder searches a lot of used bookstores -- including Amazon -- worldwide, then sorts them by price including shipping. Often I can find a book cheaper on bookfinder than I can on Amazon or Ebay.

    48. This really is the best doll pattern source I've found! I've been scouring around and not finding information on what patterns are found in which books anywhere. I'm curious though, could some of the MSD patterns be size modified to fit a MDD? I'm very new to this, I've got no clue where to start. I've just been looking at regular human patterns mostly to downsize, these are way better!
