BJD pants patterns in "Doll Sewing BOOK Textbook of paper pattern - Skirt · Pants"

    1. I recently bought the book Doll Sewing Book Texbook of paper pattern - Skirt - Pants by Sawako Araki which is in Japanese. Most of the book is about drafting patterns but the last chapter has a bunch of patterns for many sizes of BJD and others. The names I can read are SD17, SDGr, DD, SDM, SD, SD16, MDD, Momoki, Tiny Betsy McCall, Groove, TakaraTomy (4 sizes), Obitsu 55, 50, & 11, Azone S, XS, Kikipop! and what might be a Picco Nemmo type S. There are more but they only have Japanese labels. A few of the larger sizes have 2 patterns which I am guessing might be for woven vs knit.

      I'm new to all this so I have no idea what SDGr means. I'm guessing that SDM might be what we call MSD.

      The patterns are all basic sloper patterns, nothing fancy, so you have to add any details that you want.

      Anyone else have this book and read Japanese? I'd like to learn who the other patterns fit.

    2. I don't have the book, but if you could post pictures/a list of the other names you're not sure of, I or someone else should be able to translate? :)

    3. SDGr = Volks SDGraffiti, a body style slightly taller and slimmer than Volks SD13.
      SDM = Volks SDMidi, a mini size close to Volks MSD but again slightly taller and slimmer.

      Just FYI, even though people use them as if they were generic, the size designations SD17, DD, MDD, MSD, SDGr, and so on are actually Volks's proprietary terms. Like most Japanese pattern books, the one you've found uses brand-specific sizing. The patterns will often need to be tweaked for a perfect fit on other brands of dolls.
