I seen some additional neck piece/joint, like SDGr body or Fairyland and Luts. I wondering what is their function? Does it increases range of pose like tilt head or just to protect neck from touching directly with S hook? I never seen their body directly, so it's really helpful if anyone can recommend which is the best if I want to make a superior mobility body
The one in Fairyland dolls (at least Minifees) is to allow quick release of the head without messing with the elastic/s-hooks at all, so you can take it off and switch it for another head, or to make dressing easier. It doesn't offer any advantages mobility-wise.
Thank you for replying. Then I guess I don't need to make a neck piece. However, can anyone tell me how to make BJD head to tilt leftt and right too? But not like nobility doll who I feel have a bit creepy neck.
Honestly? I don't think there's any way to do a neck joint like that, which truly allows the whole neck to tilt, that doesn't look a bit weird. Really, the human neck doesn't move all that much from side to side and it's more of a curve than a rotation/tilt, so very difficult to achieve a natural look in rigid materials. The only other doll I know that does anything with the neck joint is one of the Dollshe bodies. It might be possible to do a little bit smoother jointing, but... I think you can accomplish the same appearance of mobility by doing a shallow joint for the head on top of the neck, so that it can tilt nicely side to side, and adding an extra shoulder joint so that your doll can shrug/slump. It changes the line from shoulder to neck and allows expressiveness without disrupting the whole base of the neck area.
Looks like it is impossible after all I was thinking something like dollfie dream neck part but not sure to make such spring for a resin doll. And that dollshe doll is amazing and frightening at the same time. I'm sure it posed wonderfully but I think the joint is too much to look natural. Guess I'm going to stick with normal neck.
Actually the Dollshe 32s and 35s have neck mobility. Look here: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v134/bleodswean/dolls/cripes.jpg (not my picture) The whole neck piece can move. I own a 32s, if you want me to take a few pics of how it works, I can. I do think neck mobility should be possible in resin, but I'd have to have a good long think about it.
