BJD Meet and Panel Katsucon 19 - Feb 15-17 2013

I'm definitely up for it, and will help out anyway I can. ^_^ I'm definitely hoping that there is a panel and or other doll related event. Maybe if there was a panel that was more than just a basic of bjd that gave more info or had a tutorial of some kind.... Is there still time to submit a panel?

 

i'm interested in going to panel (as long as it doesn't conflict with my work time x.x;; ) and meet ups :3

 

hmm... I don't think I will be able to get everything I need to submit for a panel together in time. I will have to think about it some more and work on submitting it for the next convention..... In the meantime, we can plan a couple of meetups and think about the panel idea further.

 

I'd love to go to a meetup! No telling on whether or not I'll have my main con dolls before then, but I'd love to see everyone else's! C':

I think it'd be fun to meet at either the upper level Gazebo, or maybe one of the little cafe sitting areas down on the lower level. As for time, I have a friend working on putting together a Cosplay photo schedule, so I'll see if she has anything that could help us out.

The upper level Gazebo and the cafe area on the first level would be okay for Friday evening.. any other day might be a little crowded.
So maybe we could meet on Friday evening around 5 or 6 in one of those two spots..

Having a meetup in a hotel room on Saturday isn't a bad idea. It's a little harder to find a spot to have meetups on Saturday or Sunday. The only places I can think that may not be too crowded is the hallway that leads to the parking garage, and some areas near the dealer's room on the first floor (much more to the right...I think there are some doors/windows there...-_-)
I can check with the group I'm rooming with to see if that would work....

Noon is a little early... Maybe on Saturday(since it gets so busy) we could do 2 meetups. We could have one maybe around 1:00 or 2:00 then a dinner meetup around 8:00 or so. This can be a tentative time until the convention schedule is posted after which we can schedule it around the more popular events....

 

oh right, i forgot cuz i don't go to masquarade anymore ahaha. we really should avoid that time slot cuz i'm sure more people go to that one~

 

I also hope that t he schedule is posted early enough to finalize plans for a meetup. I usually check the site pretty often, so I can post when they schedule the big event here later on....

The more the merrier. ^_^ My friend and roomie, likes the idea of having a meetup and swap/sale in our room on Saturday. We may even get some drinks and snacks to have there. We will figure out the time and any other details once the con schedule is released...

 

2:00 sounds great, I think that's a good starting point. Anything after that can be determined later on. Does anyone have snacks or refreshments. I may make some brownies and or cookies...

 

i don't think anyone would know a hotel's room number until they 'check in' x.x;;; not sure meeting at a hotel room is a good idea unless people can somehow check this site the day of the con...

 

unfortunately I won't be able to give a room number until we get there, so it will be kind of last minute. I don't think we will be checking into the hotel until friday afternoon. I can see if we can get some kind of info about either the room or the floor beforehand. As soon as I find out anything I will let you all know...I will try to post it here, facebook and on Meetup.com...

I can have all interested in the Saturday meetup and swap/sale send me and my roomie a PM here on DoA and we can either send you our cell number or you guys can send yours and we can text you the room number. That's the easiest solution I can think of right now, but I'm sure there is an easier way that may come to light later on. ^_^

Any snacks you want to bring would be great.^_^ I'll probably make some cookies, since I won't be doing a bunch for Christmas this year, I need an excuse to do some baking. If there is anything you guys are allergic to let me know, so I can pick cookies without such ingredients.

Ooooh I'd love to make it to a meetup : O I won't be bringing any dolls with me (they don't travel to cons anymore and Katsu is out of state anyway) but I'd love to sit and chat for a while ^^

 

That sounds like a good idea to me, if we have it later in the evening it might be easier to find a table or two free in the lobby area.

I think a later meet on Friday will be best, that way everyone can get situated and see a few things. Would somewhere between 6:00 and 8:00 work?

I went to the very first Katsucon in 1995 in Virginia Beach. It was my very first con and first cosplay. Me and two friends did Captain Harlock (the Space Pirate), Kei, and Dr. Zero (I was Zero). It was awesome! I think there may have been a dozen women there and all the rest were guys in black clothes LOL. My co-worker Richard was Captain Harlock. My best friend who has since died of breast cancer was Kei. I have a bunch of photos and stuff I bought there. We won an honorary "Best Use Of Spandex" because of my friend Diana who was Kei. I have not been to a Katsucon since then but do attend Animazment every year. My birthday is Feb and I will be 59. I still have my Dr Zero costume so I should drag it out, bring my doll family and make this one.

 

BTW, either day is ok with me for a meet up. I will be driving up from Wilmington NC so it is about a 10 hour drive. I work nights so am off Friday night thru Sunday most weeks. Gonna take a day off for my birthday on the 14th anyway. I have a bunch of swap stuff too. And phone number for info is fine. No idea which of the doll family to bring but will decide before the journey.

 

For friday, maybe we should meet at the tables that are in the front lobby, across from the check in counter, and then move elsewhere after 7:00 or so...
Friday we could do a mid day meetup, depending on the time of the big events of course, in the room that my friend is reserving for the swap/sale and have another one later on for those who might be working in the artists alley or dealer's room. I'm pretty sure that around 8 or 9 we will probably just be hanging in our room, watching anime, if there isn't anything better to do. ^_^

No worries, I know how it can be difficult to plan around taking the Metro. Things will be planned out better the closer it gets to the con. ^_^

 

they probably won't release the schedule until early to mid January....I hope they have it up sooner than that though.

 

As with the schedule...The past two years, it hasn't come out until the week of. So dont expect any early miracles.

 

It's starting to look like I may not be able to be at Katsucon for the whole weekend (unless I miraculously have enough money for the con and for a room.. -_- as well as the time off from work.). Seeing that my original plans have been kind of blown to bits, but who know maybe I will be able to find a place to stay at least friday or saturday night... I do plan to make at least on meetup though.

While I was in the shower earlier (xD;; Shower thinking is the best) I came up with an idea I thought everyone would like. It's sort of a mix between a swap/giveaway/sales thing. My doll group always has a "Box O' Free Stuff," containing anything from extra clothes and wigs to eyes, and sometimes even extra resin bits we don't want. I was wondering if people would be interested in doing something similar, and if so how many. It's honestly super fun, and it's always a surprise as to what will be in it! Anybody can take things, but a donation of a few items you'd want to part with would be appreciated.

I agree, that would be the best place to meet. We can always move to a bigger table after everyone gets there.

Also, since I've finally got a new job there's a better chance I can make it to Katsucon. I already spoke with my manager about it and he said if I let him know which days I would want to go he will see what he can do. I think I will be able to stay one night provided I can find someplace to stay. Does anyone know where I can look for an available room for a night?

Definitely, I may just have to get a ride with someone, I've got a few friends that are driving in so that's probably the best thing to do...

 

i'm just gonna let everyone know. katsucon gets SUPER crowded. and people always take up chairs, tables and spaces. so probably the exact same location might be impossible. just fyi.

 

I'm going to try to make at least one of the meetups, if I can get away from my artist alley table! (Feel free to stop by and say hi to me there, too, though! I'll have some of my guys on the table and am selling some BJD stuff. ^_^)

 

We will be in the dealers room at Katsucon but am definitely going to get away to go to the panel and see everyone.

I really want to go for one day, but the price it really turning me off. -_- I mostly just want to check out the artists alley and the dealer's room a little bit, but I think the price it kind of steep. I'll see if I'm still up to just coming for the meetup.
