I just got the Gothic Lolita Extra (date - I couldn't tell you - it came to my comic book store last week - it came right after the GLB #15). It has a whole tutorial IN JAPANESE on making your own BJD doll starting on page 106. It includes eyes and even teeth. It's about 13 pages long with tons of pictures. The finished doll is at least 2 feet tall in heels. I'm tempted to try to pick up my Japanese learning book and attempt to translate the thing... It's very similar to the tutorial for making Noah's Doll but it's really cute and uses different materials. Rosa
:O! That's awesome, I should pick that up some time ;; I found a 2 page tutorial in Kera once or twice, too. That was cool. XD It was..only for faceups and blushing, though ;; -is shot- meh.
I got a chance to look at my friend's copy of that, and it's an AWESOME guide! I especially liked how they did the eyes... I wish I could find small glass orbs like that now to try it myself!
oh wow! XD 13 pages?! That sounds neat...too bad I'll never see it most likely ops: It'd be cool if someone scanned it and posted it in the FAQ's on this site!
I was considering scanning it but I think it might infringe on some copyright though I have to look it up - I work at a book company so I can ask someone here. The eyes! - it looks like they used clear glass stones that you can get at a craft store. They put them in flower vases like marbles. There's also something very much like them in the scrapbooking area where they are like half marbles with possibly glue on the other side. I've never bought the half-marble things before so I couldn't be sure. I forgot to bring the mag in with me today so I could get a closer look and figure out what they used.
Very cool... I don't think you can scan the whole thing, but you may be able to scan a certain percentage and scream "Fair Use" before you do any infringing since it'll be for public nonprofit consumption... Maybe I'll ask the chickie in Copyright... she's quite a pill.... The clear glass stones sounds interesting... never thought to throw a pair of those in the doll... could be a very cool effect.... -Margarita
The glas stones...maybe you could use those littl half-spheres they use for those bracelets with the little circle images on them, you know? They have flat, clear backs and are like little lenses. Just sounds kinda cool. ^o^
I called her and I think she's working on the scanning.. I'll make sure I ask her to at least post the cover.... ~Margarita
My my! I did scan the whole tutorial in high res on Wednesday and plan on mailing it (burned on a cd - it's huge) to Margarita_rosa since she is my sister but the least I can do for you folks is scan in the cover - luckily I'm still carrying it around with me. I was doing research on the bibles and my comic book store isn't great about stocking them (#15 is the first). It seems the order is #16, the extra then #17 which just came out in Japan. I'm close to getting a subscription since they're $30 a pop and I might get a better deal on ebay. Look at me - my first picture!!!
Dang it - I've lost control. I scanned in a fresh almost-web-friendly copy of the 6th page with the eyes it in. If you squint at the topmost middle (on the right) you can just read the glass part of the eye (really the colored part) came out a plastic bag with "Handi craft" written on the little cardboard flap.
i got a copy of it yesterday i was very surprised that Colusseum of comics sold loli bibles and i was even more pleased to know that it was pretty much a pattern book since thats the only thing i use them for anyway i just wish someone could translate the doll making part
yes those will work perfectly...i made eyes with those *got them from joanns in a pack of various sizes* and the i drew on paper my eye and then made a small ball of clay put the cut out paper pupil on the clay and then placed the clear gem over it and sort of burried it in the clay and it looked exactly like how they had it in their tutorial
I picked up a copy today. There is a little sheet of tiny iron-on transfers that are so perfect for doll sizes! Almost worth the cost of the issue -- I may grab another one.
Gosh I'm tempted to find a copy on ebay and try making a doll of my own just from the pictures. this looks very cool. Wish I could read Japanese.
Omg want! Do you think I could find it at Borders? Or would I have to go to a Japanese Mall? (the one near me is called Mitsuwa) This would be so excellent to have!
I rather doubt Borders would have it. I think you'd be better off with the Japanese mall or online. Of course, I've never looked for it anywhere other than online, so I can't say for sure.
ack! Darn my PC. I used to have a link to an online site that you could order any issue vol. 4 and up for cheaper than anywhere else. *I love GLB* I'll see if I can find the link again.
