UK Bjd garden September gathering

Jul 29, 2025

    1. Garden BJD September gathering

      Hi everyone

I’m really wanting to organise a BJD meet up and I’m hoping you can Join me. I’m thinking September at my place for a cozy and creative BJD meet-up — the Garden BJD September Gathering! ✨

It’ll be a relaxed, fun afternoon set in the garden, with plenty of beautiful photo spots, including:

A charming Victorian dollhouse perfect for whimsical doll photos

Multiple backdrops and themed setups for creative photo scenes

A clothing and accessories exchange — bring something to swap, share, or just explore!

There’ll be snacks, drinks, and great company as we enjoy dolls, photography, and chill conversation. Bring your BJDs, favorite outfits, and your camera — whether you’re a longtime collector or new to the hobby, all are welcome!

      Date: to be confirmed

Location: My place Winchester (DM me for address/details)

RSVP if you’re coming so I can plan snacks and setup!

I do really hope that there would be some of your around who would come ✨

Let me know your thoughts !!!

    2. Sounds great but, for me at least (and others, I'm sure), whether I can attend will depend on whether I'm free on the actual date, so I can't click Yes or No on the survey until the date is announced.

      Teddy

    3. Hi Teddy

that’s great - I was thinking 20th or 27th of September. Penrose a pool with that voting option?

    4. Hi! I voted for the 27th September, that would be the best date for me. I’ ll DM you for the logistics.

    5. Hi Ilona,

Sure, text message of anything. If there is at least 2 more people would be great :)

    6. I voted for the 20th (as the 27th is my eldest godsprog's wedding day) but it's still a "maybe" for me as I have promised friends I'll visit them the weekend of a local event, that is sometimnes around that time of year but the event organizers haven't announced the date of the event yet (REALLY annoying as there are other events for September/October that I can't commit to until I jknow the date of this one!!)

So, my apologies for not being able to confirm for certain yet.

      Teddy

    7. Hi Teddy

No problem. At then moment there's time to be relaxed - only if people do commit to come id need to know at least buy the end of the month as to prepare things :thumbup

    8. Fingers crossed for a few more people to respond to the survey then.

      Teddy

    9. is what im hopping _ it will be fun :)

    10. Sounds like a great meet up but unfortunately its just to far away for me.

    11. Awww…. Where in the midlands are you? Birmingham?

    12. No I'm in Derby so closer to Nottingham but Birmingham is only about an hour away.

    13. I see...hmmm...from BI there's direct train to Winchester 2hrs. Is pretty straight forward but I do understand if you think is long :)

    14. Yeah, a six hour (or more) round trip, plus the time spent at the meet, would make for a VERY long day. You'd be looking at more time spent travelling than at the meet.

      Teddy

    15. Yeah I was actually just going to say that it would be around 6 hours of travelling for me so time wise it would just be to much time to travel there and back again just for a meet.
Meet ups in the uk just don't seem as common as they used to be now?

    16. They don't.

Before Lockdown I saw more notices about them, they don't seem to have picked up in number since. There are still some, but not anywhere near as many. There seem to be more here in the south, but perhaps I just notice them more because that's where I am, but I'm sure I used to see more posts about doll meets elsewhere in the country too.

      Teddy

    17. Yeah I used to go to meet ups many years ago but left the hobby for a few years and when I got back into it I went to 2 meets but then covid happened and they just never started back up. But I remember from years ago they used to happen regularly over the country when checking on here for meet up dates
At least I can still get my meet up fix when me and a friend meet up for our monthly bjd meet and on the very rare occasion a 3rd person might show up lol

    18. Yeah, I occasionally arrange a Dolly Day for friends who live close enough to get together, and occasioally host a more organised small meet at my place, bt i'm terribly disorganised so don't get around to doing it often and organising as proper meet at some sort of venue wouldn't get off the ground if I were the one doing it.

      Teddy

    19. thats ok. :abambi:I started this baring in mind that people might not come due to travelling. Id still go ahead if at least 2 people come. We'll see. Shame there isn't more of them like you guys just mentioned. :pout:

    20. Teddy, I was referring the train from Birmingham to Winchester. Is actually easier than the one from Brighton to Winchester. In your case, yes the trip would be pretty long.

    21. Looks like we have 2 people who are ok with the travel, i.e. @Teddy and me. Teddy can’t come on the 27th, I’m not 100% happy with the 20th. Maybe we need a different date? How do you look at that, @dbfalcao ?

    22. It sounds lovely, but voted no as a quick check shows that travelling in September is £100 average train fare, 4 hours on train not including the 50 mins getting to train station, then travelling from Winchester train station to your house :sweat. Sorry about that. Hope this works out as I would love to see pictures from this meet :D

    23.
    24. How about September 13th?

    25. My journey's easy - I'd be coming from London (and, unfortunately, I'll be doing that exact journey next week for a friend's funeral in Winchester).

I was referering tothe journey from Birmingham to Winchester plus the extra hour to get to Birmingham that @CandyKane mentioned. Three hours each way (plus, potentally, more time for changes and hold-ups).

Poop! I can't do the 13th as I'vve already committed to a Craft Day with a group of friends

      Teddy

    26. Hi Teddy,

Sorry to hear about the funeral.

Oh from London to winch is only an hour :)

Yeah I mentioned Birmingham/Winchester train only- which is pretty easy as there's no changes, but of course If someone still travelling one hour prior to it gets complicated.

I could push to October but I just fear the weather wouldn't be nice enough for a garden "party" - but, open to suggestions.

      D x

    27. You can never know with the weather, it could be anything any time. Beginning of October sounds ok to me.

      • x 1
    28. My October is packed solid I'm afraid.

      Teddy

    29. I'll talk to my husband, maybe I can do the 20th.

      • x 1
    30. If both you and @Teddy could come on the same day, great! - Ilona, if only one can come, I’m happy to meet up still. We can still do something on a smaller scale.

    31. Hello everyone, I only live 1.5 hours drive from Winchester. I would love to attend and could potentially provide lifts if anyone is en route from Oxford to Winchester? 27th September works best for me, but I could do 20th after 1:30pm as I have a medical supplies delivery in the AM that day.

    32. I've (finally!!) finalised my other plans and I can do the 20th for sure.

      Teddy

    33. Hey everyone!

I was about to close this thread since there wasn’t a clear confirmation (some were free one weekend, others weren’t), so things felt a bit up in the air. I held off until the start of September to see if anyone would confirm.

I’m not 100% sure I can still commit to the 20th. I’d really love to, but I need to double-check because I’ve been working on the garden (which includes a prop dollhouse I was building for the BJD meet). I thought I’d have it finished by now… but I got a little too relaxed with it, haha .

It might still work out! I just need a couple of days to see if I can shuffle things around, finish some bits, and get the garden ready—plus balance work stuff. Can I check back in two days and confirm then? I’d really love for this meet to happen if possible!

P.S. Just a heads up—I have dogs. They’re loud and curious at first but calm down once they get bored. Just letting you know in case anyone’s not comfortable being around them.

    34. Yes, of course

      Teddy

    36. Hello Everyone,

So, I think is still possible to have the BJD meet-up :) - the only thing id just be aware of is the weather, but I did check on my weather app and I think the Saturday 17th won't rain! :celebrate

    37. I know I'm incredibly late to the party, but my partner (also a doll person) and I would be interested in coming and are unlikely to have any conflicts regardless of date. We also might be able to provide a ride if anyone needs one (we'd be coming from West Midlands).

(I just did my occasional check on the meetup forum and was pleasantly surprised to see something UK based lol)

    38. 17th is Wednesday, Saturday will be 20th and 27th. We are settled on the 20th now, right?

    39. Sorry!!! Yes! Is on the 20th! I don’t know why I had 17th on my head!

nevertheless, still up however, the weather is not looking promising. I’m constantly checking on the weather app. As it is a “garden meet-up” - my plans were all made based on that. I’m just hoping the weather will show clear for Saturday! !

    40. Yes is Saturday 20th. ☺️

    41. Do come!!! ☺️

    42. All you can do under the circumstances is plan on it going ahead and check the forecast the morning to make a final decision on whether to cancel before people make the journey.

Also, we'll need to know the address so we can figure out where in Winchester we're heading for.

Is it near the station, for example, or would a taxi be needed...? I know there's a handy taxi-rank right outside the station from being there a few weeks ago.

      Teddy

    43. Hi Teddy

of course, I was in fact coming here tonight to leave my address! Will be ok to write it down here?
is house 32 , SO225NH. Winchester Yes you take a taxi from station which is only 5min drive. :) so lets say, ill do my best, prepare everything but I should come back here the day/night before in case is pouring with rain! my number is
Please let me know if everyone agrees ? my number 07815530389 - hopefully the wether will be dry :eusa_pray

    44. That's up to you. If you're worried about leaving it visible on an open Forum you could DM it to anyone who has shown an interest. I've been hosting meets and gatheirngs for decades without problems from making my address public though, so it's a matter of personal choice.

Yes, the night before might be a better bet for the final decision than my suggestion of the morning of, given how far people will be travelling and how early they'd need to be ready to set off.

      Teddy

    45. Sounds good to me! Also hoping for good weather! :3nodding:

    46. The night
The night before it is! Sounds great! Thanks for guiding me a bit! Really appreciate as is the first time doing this! ☺️

    47. No problem sharing my address—it’s 32 Goring Field, SO22 5NH.

I only mentioned it because it’s my first time arranging something like this, so I wasn’t sure what the usual process is.

I’ve been keeping an eye on the weather! At the moment, Friday looks dry with a high of 23°C, but Saturday is showing rain Hopefully that changes (as it often does)—

    48. Hi everyone,

The weather isn’t being particularly kind to me. Friday is supposed to be sunny all day, but Saturday has rain in the afternoon.

I still want to do this, but the rain will limit a lot of what I have planned. Unless most of you can come relatively early, I don’t want to put pressure on anyone, as I understand how tiring travelling can be.

I’m trying to think of alternatives to my plans. I had an idea to create some nice backgrounds for photography using the space I have in the garden. ️

What sort of time you guys were thinking for arrival ?

      D

    49. I usually start mine aroudn 10:30 to eleven in the morning and people arrive when they can get there after that. Works well for me so far.

For mine I also suggest people bring any specialist food/drink they need for allergy and intollerences etc. and if people want they can bring stuff to share for a buffet style lunch.

      Teddy

    50. Hi Teddy
10:30 -11 is a great time! I’ll make sure to get some soft drinks and nibbles- I’m vegan so most will be on that side ( sorry about those who eat meat! I can try add something ) plus tea, coffee etc

    51. I'll be bringing oat-milk and instant decaf for my hot-drink needs, and I usually grab something along the lines of cocktail sausages, crisps, grapes etc. to bring along. I'm not vegetarian or vegan but I tend toward meat-free alternatives for the sake of my cholesterol since I had a (minor) heart-attack a couple of summers back, and my deal-with-myself is that I stick to the good-cholesterol-diet at home and I can be less strivt about it when I'm out-and-about - I like quorn cocktail sausages etc but if I have too much quorn it upsets my stomach).

No idea what dolls I'll bring as I usually run around the house in a mad panic picking dolls and shoving them into a bag just before I leave.

      Teddy

    52. I’ll bring some Spanish mystery wine straight from Spain, and some chocolates. And something more, haven’t decided yet.

    53. Hi, @CocoRohan, are you going? I would like to take up your offer for a ride! I’m in Telford. My husband could take me to your starting point in West Midlands easily. My original plan was that he takes me all the way but as we just have returned from a 2 months long trip to Nordkapp he is a bit under the weather (he is disabled).

    54. Yep, my partner and I will be going and are happy to give you a ride! We're still not sure when exactly we need to head out and stuff but I'll dm you my # so we can work that out in text.

      • x 1
    55. Nothing to be sorry about! Cats are obligatory carnivores, humans can adapt to very many things and eating vegan is the least worry. Everything will be fabulous!

    56. Yay! It's looking like there will be a good sized turnout

Now we just need the weather to behave.

      Teddy

      • x 2
    57. Yes! I'm so glad I checked the forum, so excited and very much hoping the weather will be good. XD

    58. Forecasts are undecided about the Winchester weather on Saturday - one's saying 30% to 40% chance of a little rain in the afternoon, another site is saying 2% chance. How's that for keeping us guessing?

      Teddy

    59. Hi everyone!

Sorry I haven’t been very active here — things have been pretty busy! Just checking in: how many of us will there be, 4–5?

      Weather update:

According to BBC Weather, there’s a small chance of rain in the afternoon. The garden is still a bit wet, but tomorrow should be hot and sunny, so it should dry out nicely

The house I’ve been building isn’t fully complete yet (sorry about that, I just haven’t had the time). But everything else I had planned for the gathering should still be good to go.

A quick heads-up about my dogs:

I have 3 dogs. Two of them are big and loud — sometimes a bit “extra” — but they’re very friendly. They’ll bark at first but usually calm down quickly. Just mentioning this again so no one is caught off guard. My place is a bit of a madhouse, in the best way ☺️

      Snacks & drinks:

@Teddy I’ll grab some of the snacks you suggested. I also drink oat milk and will get some decaf coffee too

That’s all from me for now! If you have any questions, just ask. I’ll check back in later.

      Getting excited already!

    60. I'm happy to bring stuff if you want to concentrate on the bits you were going to get anyway. Today's our day for the weekly Supermarket-trip so it's on the list anyway and I tend to travel with decaf as a matter of course.

      Teddy
