I was wondering if anyone has had the chance to attend conventions in China and Russia. I've been exploring the RedNote app, and the videos and photos I've come across are truly impressive! I haven't seen Doll/Teddy Bear shows even approaching that caliber here in the US since the 90s. While the idea of traveling within North America is already a bit challenging, the prospect of going to another country, especially given the current political tensions and travel restrictions, is something I can't even consider at this time. If anyone has attended these events in the past, I would genuinely appreciate hearing about your experiences!
I'm actually going to one that in Hangzhou, China this weekend. My first time going to one and I'm hoping to go to a Shanghai one at some point because those are the biggest ones! Will come back to this thread to post after I've gone. I'd love to go to a Russian one at some point, but baby steps.
@JoyLuckDragon, well, my friends regularly participate in main convention in Moscow and their photos and tales about it are truly impressive. (I just registered for the next one which will be held in June It will be my first experience of the kind) There's a lot going on in my city but this is mostly mixed exhibitions where bjd are only one part of it along with other dolls. Usually this is an excellent opportunity to buy not only dolls but handcrafted goods of all kinds and the general atmosphere really inspires when you need a boost
So cool!!! Just looking at all the dolls, bears, figures, sculptures and everything is so inspiring! Congratulations, you're so fortunate to be in a place with so many amazing artists! Do you have any pictures of your work? Don't mind saying I'm a bit jelly
I'm back from Hangzhou and the DP was pretty amazing. See my photos HERE. I didn't manage to take photos of everything because I was too busy shopping. I even bought myself a 2DDoll body that was already available and got to bring it home immediately at a 25% discount! This was my first time at a Chinese doll con so it was very eye-opening for me. AFAIK, Shanghai holds the biggest doll cons in China, so this Hangzhou one is considered much smaller. That said, there was still a lot of see and many wig makers, tailors, accessory and prop makers, as well as doll companies like 2D Doll, DikaDoll and even individual doll artists, etc. My favourite doll maker was definitely this artist called BlackShip on Red Note. She sculpted a curvy 64cm girl body that you can see in the photo folder I linked out! I'm hoping to go to a Shanghai one (hopefully next year) and will happily report back again!
Those BlackShip bjds are AMAZING!!! This con looked pretty impressive so the ones in Shanghai must be insane! I hope you can go to a Shanghai convention too!
@JoyLuckDragon, Oh, I'm so sorry, I was sure I answered and just discovered I failed with posting my message. I'm not an artist, I only make some craft and outfits for my own dolls but my friends are sculpter and tailor and they participate every year and this time I am going to be there as a member of their fan stand with two my guys I bought from them. Here's a few pictures from mixed exhibition in my city and here's is a link for upcoming bjd-con in Moscow
