beware: tattoos; msc and beauty white skin

Mar 3, 2005

    1. My beauty white Cyn has been having some issues where layers of the MSC were being scrubbed off over time when I cleaned him. Resin began not matching up and so I decided today I would brave it and try to wipe off all his msc; avoiding the msc around his tattoos and recoat him.

I spent 3 hours scrubbing - eventually the tattoos got moist anyway; and I had to remove them. Hand painted with liquitex; the tattoos virtually dyed the msc around them upon trying to remove them; and was very difficult. I've had ALOT of problems with the beauty white skin; and for anyone wanting to modify they need to keep this in consideration and really learn from my mistakes on this part.

It's now almost 4 hours since I started; and he's been completely stripped of his MSC; washed; and re-coated with the new UV cut. You can still see some spots where the msc stained his resin permanantly if you look close enough. Perhaps they could be removed by sanding; but due to my experience with a normal skinned CH resin not matching up when I was removing seams, I won't sand him.

I feel like a terrible mother - from the time his tattoos were placed on him; we've had nothing but trouble. The msc got messed up three times; his tattoos had to be done repeatedly as a result and I finally got tired of the upkeeping of them on his white resin. My choa has absolutely no issues with her MSC and she's actually played with more then he is, so I feel like (maybe?) the beauty white skin has more to do with it.

Please keep these sort of things in mind before you customise with ideas like tattoos or dying resin.. the mix of these three things were pretty deadly on my boy and I'm glad I decided to fix them before they got any worse. :\

    2. What do you mean by the MSC stained your doll? Did it yellow the resin, or is it just darker in some areas?

I'm sorry to hear about that. >_o I bet it's frustrating.

    3. Yes; it yellowed on the resin some. I know MSC has a more yellow hue anyway; but the msc on top of the tats; trying to remove both literally turned the msc black; and even the most delicate of wiping made it worse and worse.

I have some spots of MSC which are permanant stains - the sponge; and the acetone simply can't take them off; and like I said; won't sand. :\ So..

    4. Eep T_T

Do you think it will have the same type effect on a Luts White skin ? Because Jun is a White Skin and I was debating coating him too....

Sorry about your boy, I wonder if a tatoo cover up would work ? Or just make it worse ??

    5. Aie, don't be scared to do some light sanding (I'd only use high grade paper though)...I know you've had bad experiences with it...but maybe consider...would you prefer that darker stain or would a potentially lighter one (where the resins don't 100% match) bother you less?

    6. I actually while I was restringing him, noticed I don't see the bumps much any more. maybe the new UV Cut killed them; or I was just so tired from working on him all afternoon (my poor hands; I stripped almost a full layer of skin off 4 fingers from scrubbing) that I didn't notice them now.

I am a little afraid; but yeah, I MAY end up trying to sand.. IDK, anika.. :\

    7. I was honestly telling my friend; after this mess I will NEVER do a tattoo again. Because these tattoos had several layers. He was MSCed first to keep from permanant staining; then he had the first layer of tattoo and MSC. When the tattoo chipped the first time; it got a second layer; another layer of MSC and then his arm chipped and he got another coat of MSC again. In the end the upkeep was HORRIBLE and Nai wears really tight clothes (he's got the whole visual kei rockstar thing going on) so I won't ever try another tattoo - I REALLY want to blush his chest but again; I'm a little afraid.

I would coat your boy; definately no question hands down. But I would NOT reccomend too many layers; and I really wouldn't do tattoos. I'm SO glad I didn't do them on my baby girl now; I had considered.

    8. That really sucks, because the whole point was to prevent that kind of problem T_T

I wonder why they make the resin so delicate when it comes to cerytain things, I mean Megumi can stainjust by having the wrong material on her skin U_U

You'd think they'd figure out a better way to mix resins so they are just a bit less prone to staining...

    9. MSC by itself does not stain resin at all. I've used it countless times on all my dolls (beauty white Delf as well) and it's fine. Don't be afraid to do that. :) In fact it's important to coat your doll. You just have to be careful when coating. I agree with aie....coat several times, but not too much. I find if you do it too much it starts turning....I don't know ugly I suppose. I remember it was that way with Aisha because I put too much MSC on her. It changes the skin color sort of. It's not permanent though...goes away when you take off the coating. But taking off many layers of coating is a bitch.

    10. *sigh* I have the same problem- everything either stains or "dirites" up my girls. I understand now why some owners wear gloves to handle the dolls.

    11. Thank you so much for the tips, it's my forst time using MSC and the last thing I'd want is for the one thing that's supposed to protect them, messing them up T_T I'll be careful ^_^

      *pets my dolls*

    12. I posted about this a couple of weeks ago. It's to do with the layers of adhesive which keeps the tattoo in place, especially if you're using glitter tattoos. I too, found them difficult to remove. I eventually resorted to acetone and the a light sanding which did the trick.
also, I think MSC will turn the doll slightly off-colour depending on how much of it you use.

    13. That's really weird that you've had problems with colour differences in your normal tone CH resin. I've sanded my CH body extensively, and noticed no colour difference at all.

It could be that you're not 'polishing' the resin enough - if the sanded resin is rougher than the surrounding area, it can appear lighter because the light refracts off the rough resin differently than the smooth. Try a 600+grit wet/dry to finish off the sanding. ^_^
