Hi guys, I'm just wondering if anyone has any really good books or websites to teach resizing of patterns. My doll has a weird waist measurement it seems compared to her hips so I'll have to resize most of the patterns I can buy or find online. Or even a good tutorial they know about, I'm totally getting swamped and confused with everything I've found so far and with the exchange rate going nuts again I won't be able to buy any doll clothes for awhile so need to learn how to make them.
For resizing patterns without losing the original you can trace it onto freezer paper. I would suggest getting an old (or new, whatever you prefer) bed sheet and use that to make mock clothes that you can make alterations while it is on her. (I'm sure you know but.. be careful when using pins, don't want to scratch her resin.) Then you just take the mock-clothing apart and make a pattern off of that. Also, look for patterns with princess seams.. Those can be altered the easiest while keeping true to the look, especially with the method I suggested above. Don't be afraid of princess seams! Just because it says "princess" doesn't mean you can't make it casual with different material or styles.. PS: Sorry if this wasn't helpful..
Well, ive got a bunch of human clothes tutorials/patterns downloaded, and im currently using one of them to make a dress for my doll. all i do is draw the pattern again on a piece of paper and put it on top of the doll to see if it will fit then i cut it out(if its too short or long i either cut or redraw the pattern piece) and then when i cut my fabric and remember to leave seam allowance and all that jazz. its simple really but that's just my way of doing it. but here is some videos to clarify and show another method. and here is this picture tutorial to help you take measurements and make patterns for your dollies! How to Make BJD Patterns also you can search on youtube for people who make doll/barbie clothes/things bc there is a lot of peeps who do that there like "myfroggystuff". anyways! i hope this helped in some way~ sorry about my english i just woke up a few mins ago um if you dont want to bother measuring your doll you can look it up on the doll company website bc ik that they do that sometimes.. unless they dont have one. but yeah~ good luck with everything~!! and please tell me how it worked out in the end
Thank you so much! Looks like I'll be doing a lot of research this weekend, and hopefully try and come up with something using some left over material I have from a costume for my brother. Fingers crossed it works! My doll desperately needs some pants (She won't stop complaining that she's stuck in a skirt >_>)
^^ im glad it helped!! awe haha shorts are really easy to make so hopefully shell have some soon~! i lost mine somehow while restringing and it hasnt turned up since :p so i might have to make new ones soon
That's my biggest fear in restringing is I'll lose something. I some how managed to lose a wig the other day, but I have a horrible suspicion that the cat took it as a play thing >__>! Hopefully the shorts come out well, or even a pair of pants LOL
oh haha that reminds me of the time my cat ran away with my boys wig but i chased her down and got it lmao ^^ remember to make the back pattern wider if ur dolly has a prominent booty ;-; i made that mistake so i added more fabric and it became the waist band to his boxers
