Hi y'all! I'm currently trying to figure out the best way to make a wig for a character I want to make. My best option currently is to buy a base wig, commission a friend to cut/style, and then dye somehow. But dying is where I'm not sure of what to do. I'm looking for a soft orange to yellow ombre (yellow base color on the wig, the dye would be orange). My first thought was pastels, and that would be preferable since it'd be easier for me to control, but I'm not sure how to make the pastels bind to the hair and not stain the doll, so advice on that would be great. Actual dye is also an option, but I worry that it'd be messy since it'd be a layered style. Thanks for any advice!
On synthetic fibers you could do a dip dye using iDye Poly or you could use alcohol inks. If you google "dyeing synthetic wigs" with either method you'll find doll and cosplay tutorials that cover it.
Reviving this thread as I want to dye a heat-resistant synthetic fibre wig using this method. I am planning to use it on a white doll and I wonder if It'll stain the resin?
I have no experience myself in dying synthetic fibers and have only dyed alpaca fiber. But I remember from a tutorial (I think it was a rainbow high hair dying tutorial unfortunately I can't remember or I would link it) that Rit all purpose dye was better to use for synthetic hair because it would not stain.
