3D Printing Best printing orientation for doll parts?

Jun 29, 2024

    1. Hi there!
I finally got my resin printer a week ago (Elegoo Saturn 4 Ultra), and have tried printing a couple of doll heads.
As I have mainly printed miniatures for Warhammer, I printed them at a 90 degree angle like miniatures.
The heads ended up quite warped.

Following the sculptors advice, I printed the heads vertically which seemed to work way better.
Now I'm just wondering about body parts.
I was going to also do the bust and stomach, legs etc completely vertical, but I'm wondering if that is also the best?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated, thank you!!

    2. Take a look at Moonlight Jewel's youtube videos and pause at when she removes the build plate to see how she orients her doll parts. She prints 16 inch dolls. There's also heleneholz5300 who printed smaller dolls.

    3. Warping like this is usually happened from not properly supported the model, can you show the model with support included?

    4. You probably already found the solution, but fore future doll makers:
your printer has not been adjusted.
      1. look for an exposure test and adjust the exposure based on that. if your exposure time is loww gravity will deform the non cured resin and make deformations.
      2. Move the heaviest parts of the doll closer to the platform. Printing dolls is really different from printing miniatures!

    5. You need to put much more Supports and try other orientation where printer sucktion is minimized.
