I was looking through the fabric selection on Spoonflower (for custom printed fabrics) and I was wondering which between these two fabrics would work best for over-the-knee socks or similar sized socks (for 1/3 scale if it matters): Cotton spandex jersey OR sport lycra (links via Spoonflower) Because the fabric will be printed on one side I was prioritizing fabrics that were stretchy but also had good colour brightness and smoother texture. But are these any good? I've seen people on Etsy selling printed doll socks made from stretch jersey before but I've never bought any to check the fit or quality myself.
I personally use modern jersey from Spoonflower. But that's more because I order that for shirts and use the leftovers for socks. It's also a super stretchy colour rich fabric. In my opinion Cotton Spandex Jersey has a too limited stretch for socks. Don't have any experience with sport lycra.
I was considering that one too but wasn't sure if it would work. I'll probably get a small piece of both the jersey types then and see which one I like more.
Mm, yeah I really prefer the modern jersey. I got a sample pack and it just feels really nice, good stretch, and really vibrant print colors. The cotton spandex jersey was definitely a bit rougher and had less vibrancy. (Unfortunately I don't remember the Lycra at all and the sample pack is still missing after our last move, but hopefully the rest of this info helps.)
This actually just reminded me that I have the sample pack! General opinion seems to be in favour of modern jersey so far but I'll still check my samples just to see for myself anyways. Thank you for the info!
