"Behind the Eight"

Jul 29, 2012

    1. Do you have a hard-luck doll that was nothing but trouble to put together? Did he get temporarily lost in shipping? Arrive in pieces? Did you have to repaint her five times because the sealant wouldn't cooperate? Do other dolls appropriate clothing and wigs that were ordered for him before he gets a chance to try them on? Is she that poor head who is still waiting for a body because must-have limiteds keep cutting in line in front of her? Or is he just the one who face-plants repeatedly? Show us your Sad Sack doll; maybe some attention will turn his luck around!

    2. Oh, this is awesome!

Poor, poor Evan (Volks School A) . . . very few of my friends even know I have him. He has never had a real photoshoot. His faceup is chipped in three places. He's constantly teetering on the edge of becoming a body donor for another, more glamorous head that's on the way. And whether it's revenge or just sad-sack-ness, he spent MONTHS refusing to come together for me. No eyes looked right. No wigs looked right.

Well, until this week, that is, when I finally managed to get a decent picture of him. Maybe he's feeling the 8th anniversary spirit?

Eh, I suppose he can keep his body after all. For a while.

    3. First he was a floating head for a long time. He finally got his body, but now I can't quite figure out who he is. He's currently trying out a Black Bart the Bad Guy image, but at his worst he just looks mischievous.

    4. This is Mikeal Shane Samson:
"Hi, I'm Mike and I'm a pain in the ass."

Mike is an OC of mine that I've had for over 10 years. I love him, but he's rude, crude and mean as hell (sometimes he's joking, sometimes he seriously hates you.) That personality transferred into the doll, I think.

Mike started out as a cloth ragdoll, handpainted by me. I had his perfect image in my head. Then, around 2009, I started thinking about upgrading him to resin. No sculpt I ever saw worked for him and I searched HARD. Then, out of the blue, a DiM Robel head shows up on my doorstep---a thank you gift from JunkySpot! It. Was. Perfect. At that moment, I thought Mike was going to be my easiest ever. Wrong.

It is an old head and the resin is a color between WS and NS. I first got him a 70cm ResinSoul body....horrible resin match (he was one of my first hybrids) and hated the body. I dealt with it, but a year later, I changed it and got him a 60cm Bobobie body (I had it on hand, it was worth a try). It was better, but still bad. About a year after that, I changed it to AoD. The size and body was pretty good, but the color was still horrible, so I blushed him to match. Finally, this past spring, I lucked upon an old DiM body that SHOULD have been a perfect match....its not. But it's better than anything else has been, so he's keeping it.

Wigs...another pain. Nothing seems to suit him right and he's been through probably close to 10 wigs. Eyes....they're perfect. except somehow (and I have NO clue how I managed this) I for got to take them out when spraying MSC and now they're cloudy....though....they make him look...um...."on something"...which is pretty accurate so it's ok...

The character is covered in tats...I cannot get them right. Paint chips, pencil rubs off, they will not stay on. He's also covered in piercings, that alao don't want to stay on.

Clothing...is mostly ok...but his calves are a bit too thick for his boots. I make him wear them anyway....

Soooo....yeah, Mike is definitely my problem child. But also one I don't think I could ever sell.

    5. My poor dear Bernie:

She had a rough time of it before she arrived. She had at least four owners as far as I can figure. One of them had attempted to mod her into a boy, but must have been impatient because they just hacked straight into her chest!

Then she was sent, still in bad shape, to someone as a negotiated repayment for defaulting on a group order (the point being that she would be sold off to recoup the money). That person sent her to parachan for repairs, who did a fantastic job and gave her a new face-up. She has a scar from where the awesome re-shaping couldn't quite eliminate the damage.

Then she was sent back to the person I bought her from, who also nearly disappeared on the group order she was trying to organize the repayment for! I had to chase her around for more than a month before she responded at the end of my layaway!

But finally, on a cold rainy morning, she arrived - and she's not leaving again!

I gave her a slight enhancement to her face-up, and washed that manky wig, but in honor of her arduous journey, I've left her largely alone (rare in my house, where face-ups have the lifespan of fresh baked cookies!)

    6. Olga, Soom's iMda 5.2 Monika, is hands-down the most problematic doll I've ever owned.

      Olga by ☆☆Anna☆☆, on Flickr

The best way to describe her when she just arrived is a "resin ragdoll". Her limbs were all over the place, she couldn't sit even when her back was supported, and I wouldn't dare stand her. Because in all my years in the hobby I've never received a BJD that was so difficult to handle, I thought there was something seriously wrong with her - perhaps one of her limbs was miscast? or, improperly sanded?

She traveled back to Soom for an evaluation and was found to be "working as intended". Because I love the sculpt so much, I decided to work on the body myself - I restrung her with 4mm elastic (the thickest I could fit), wired her and sueded her. Despite my efforts, she is only able to maintain exactly one sitting position on her own. To keep her seated safely for prolonged periods of time, I still need to lean her against something sturdy.

She's a problem doll for sure! But, even still, I love her sculpt and don't intend to part with her :)

    7. :blush Oh dear I did put her away and almost forgot about my poor Dolkot Leaf head. For ages I wanted a Leaf with those gorgeous Elfears :aheartbea but Dolkot did not sell heads seperate and I dont like the DK Bodies. I was lucky to find a Leaf head on the MP even with a limited face up ! To begin with; the transaction was a pain, the seller had some bad feedback but I really wanted the head and had to be very patient it took the seller a good few weeks before she did send me the head. As she arrived the head was grubby and dirty but nothing bad just a good cleaning did it. Then the waiting for a body begun for my poor Leela, thats her name, a few limited-soon-to-be-discontinued-hard-to-get dollies came in her way but at last I did order a body for my poor Leela. She was only for a short period on her body as the LLT Edria Vampire head claimed the body to be her temporary body, I put my poor Leela in a box and forgot about her until now, Sorry Leela you shall have your body back, soon . . . I promise :chocoberry
Poor bodyless Leela :( I feel ashamed she had at least 4 pre-owner before she came to live overhere and now she lays in a box.

    8. Old Spooky Louis here is still a floating head, but at least I've had fun scribbling on him a couple times...

He's an Iplehouse Louis head I got as a freebie back in 2006, with the purchase of my Tan Soo Ri. This was back in the days of random-choice gift-heads, that you'd get stuck with without choosing them. ;;^^ Since Iplehouse had only ever made 1 tan doll at the time, there were no other tan heads to offer, so I got this mismatched orphan. I like Louis, but I have no character for him, and never bought him a Normalskin body... and now Iplehouse has changed the shade of their NS resin a few times and totally discontinued the YID body, so finding him a body match is not a task I've ever felt like undertaking.

But I sorta like having him around anyway! He lives in the box marked "Heads/Hands/Etc." I may continue to hoard him 'till later & see if I ever feel like shelling him... or I may try selling the head (which could be just as hard as shelling him, because Louis was never a big seller). Right now he is an all-purple spookster with jewelled eyelashes; he can try being a freckled preppie later.

    9. His name is Muninn

He's a "first generation" Senior Delf Bliss, and he's one of the handful of dolls here that I'm absolutely confident in saying that, no matter what, I'll never let go.

I'm his second owner. His first was one of those collectors who... well, in all honesty probably ought to have gone with another hobby, or at least stuck to dolls made of sterner stuff than resin. o_0 To say he was treated roughly and suffered the consequences was an understatement.

Everything was disclosed when I bought Muninn, so I knew exactly what I was getting into with him. (I bought him for a song, specificly to be a "project doll"-) But sometimes remembering what he was like when I opened that box still makes me shake my head... This guy really had a rough early life.

Looking at the picture, you might think he's a yellowed white resin doll. He isn't. He started out NS, and different parts of his body, exposed to different amounts of light had faded to half a dozen different shades between ivory and yellow-pink. He was a patchwork of fade-lines and gradients.

      His hands were broken...

He had an extensive red and brown tattoo. The resin hadn't been sealed very well before it was painted.

... and he had a deep gouge carved out of his forehead, just above the hairline. I have no idea how something like that would even happen. It looked like he'd been attacked with a screwdriver. o_0

I spent a lot of time, and used a terrifying amount of brush cleaner and sandpaper fixing Muninn. I got him new hands (I hoped that maybe someday they'd fade enough to match his arms, but it's seeming less and less likely as time goes on-). I filled, smoothed and tinted the gash in his head. You can hardly tell it was there any more. I removed as much as I could of the tattoo, though it'll never be gone completely. Like a real one that's been removed, it's left its mark. I sanded him completely to even out the transitions between one patch of faded resin and the next... and after all of that I ended up very attached to the guy.

He had some bad luck starting out... But I like to think things have improved for him since he joined my crew.

    10. My most problematic doll HAS to be Armand, my Soom Vega Boy. Soom was taking away their Mecha's before I was able to get him, so I thought I would never get him. I had the chance to get him(the very last cream white Vega boy created by Soom), but then they told me that they had to send me a normal skin one instead after waiting 2 months. All of that was actually a mistake. So I waited some more and he came home in one piece, got his face up.. but the same day that he had come home from getting his face up, he fell back into a chair leg and decided to create a chip in the MSC. So I stressed about that, but I was able to send him back to ShallowSleep to fix it up.
      Everything is fine, now, but he does tend to put himself in dangerous positions. I've repeatedly had to protect his face up because of that. -_- I probably won't have the guts to send his head out for his planned elf ears now, but eventually, I'll have to part with his body to get it blushed.... and I'm scared. >__>;

      Here he is. ^__^

And here's the spade in place of the MSC chip. XD

    11. this. girl.

      omg.

so, i searched foooorever for an old f-12, and finally found her as just the head on the marketplace here for an insane amount of money. really, i don't know if i'd ever spend that much again on just a head. but i was happy to have finally found her, so i bought her.

BUT, she was an old-skin white volks, so it was tough finding a body for her. i needed one that had yellowed as well, because she is very yellowed.

i found one through a buying service who bought her for me in hong kong. i had no idea what i was getting, so i just trusted it was an sd13 body. well, it is partially an sd13 body. it also has some old sd10 parts, possibly a mix of boy and girl parts. *sigh* so for about a year i fought with this body to post AT ALL. BUT, nothing i did could make this body sit, much less stand.

oh, and the body was also WAY more money than i know now to be reasonable.

finally, i sent the body off to someone who restrung her, wired, and sueded her. she can now stand if i fiddle with her FOREVER, but it's better than it was.

so anyway, yeah. WAY too much money for the worst posing doll i've ever heard of. but she is my absolute favorite mold, so i put up with it. ;)

    12. [IMG]

This was a custom made body by NobilityDoll. Since it's butt is part of the thighs, there is no butt cavity to hold the legs properly in place. This causes her legs to just drop out of the back and it will take extensive modification to correct the issue. It's so frustrating that she has remained in the box the body came in since taking this picture.

I'm still trying to work up the motivation to turn her in to the wicked goddess that is slumbering within that broken shell.

    13. Quite a few dolls have been troublesome for me - like the one whose head was held hostage by a shoe bootlegger in Shanghai after it was mislabeled and lost in the mail for months, or the one who is continuously being cobbled together from expensive modified parts - but the ones who really just seem to get the short end of the stick all the time are the Adams brothers.

Alexander was supposed to get a Dollstown 15 body body, but another doll took it.
I bought him a second-hand Volks SD13 boy body and it arrived with an undisclosed crack in the neck (which I sort of sanded in a lazy way).
I gave him a face-up that was good enough that I didn't want to do it over, but it developed a huge air bubble that's chipping off and I've done nothing about it.
His seemingly endless series of boring brown wigs are never quite flattering to his face shape.
I order expensive clothing for him and other dolls steal it before he even gets a chance to try it on.
The objects of his affection invariably reject him.

Gabriel was purchased by my partner to be the sister in the three Adams siblings, but when the head arrived it was way too big for the waiting girl body. The Ganymede head was relegated to a box under the bed for several years while I coveted it. Eventually, I was planning to give up a head that she really wanted so we agreed to a swap.
The head was somehow too big for every body option I tried. Operating under the assumption that a bigger body would work, I ordered a Dollstown 18 boy body when it was finally released after many postponements. The backlog at DollsheCraft meant that he took an even longer time to ship. When the body finally arrived it was way too big and the resin didn't match. I traded again with my partner so that I got her DT 15yr boy body instead, but the resin is a terrible match and the body is discontinued so I can't order the freshskin color he needs.
In the meantime, the wicked expensive custom mohair wig I ordered for him finally arrived and it was made in the wrong size so I had to return it and wait for a replacement to be made.
I did his face-up rather hastily and didn't notice in the evening light that he had a bunch of grit or powder or something in his sealant before doing the final coat.
Also, he's got only hand-me-down clothing and a squeezed in spot sitting on the edge of my dresser because there's no room for him to stand in a doll stand.

    14. Oh, an ongoing saga(s)! Let's go past the ones who are bad posers, or who simply lost a finger, or who haven't gotten their PS stories started yet (that's my time problems, not theirs!). Or the unpainted floating heads that have been with me for 4 years. Or the pain-in-the-butt pair of heads (EF Won and SD Lee Jun Ki) - the latter finally getting a matching body after a year and 3 tries, the former still sitting and waiting after a year and a half--

Bought an Angelregion Cien in January of 2009. Actually just bought the body, which was white, a color Bluefairy wasn't offering at that time (or wasn't affordable. I forget. But they're the same bodies structurally.). It arrived, but was actually a pure greenish white (and still is). But the seller also sent along his head! Which was a project in work of opening his eyes, and apparently she either didn't like the job she was doing, or lost interest. So I inherited this little fellow on the right (a comparison pic taken in 2010 with the by-then-acquired BF white):

Poor and (still) nameless AR sat in a box all this time while I waffled over completing the eye-opening, or using an eye-patch or whatever. Finally, after 3 years, and seeing many a "tasteful" eye injury or eye scars, I decided that he should reflect the reality that eye injuries don't heal "pretty", and he got a faceup as-is. WHY he only looks decent in a red wig (which accentuates the greenishness) is a mystery, but his faceup was done in matching tones. Thankfully, like most resin, he picks up color from the ambient light sources--

He's in the running just for the length of time it took to finally make a "live" doll of him. The faceup still needs improvement and tweaking, and will probably get redone -- one of these years.....

      ----------
These two are my biggest problems/initial disappointments to date.

1 is an original edition Raurencio Remiel boy. circa 2009ish. Bought him for the body as a hopeful upgrade for my UDr Jace body, but the UDr was actually a bit more stable, if more limited in torso ROM. Loved the thicker arms, but the glorious UDr thick thighs had been whittled down. Disappointed. Remiel sat in a box until 2010, when I started sanding and remodeling his face to remove some jowls and cut down his lip size, just for practice. Then he sat back in the box until late 2011-2012, while I finally considered what kind of faceup he would have eventually. Nobody was going to really want the body, not after Raurencio was already, what, 2 steps further along in refinement and improvements.

Then there is a Unidoll-r Lily. Loved her company pix, was appalled when I got her. (2009-2010?) The body was boob-topheavy and ankle-weak. Plus her head is a 7-8 on the small side, and looked pinheaded on the huge 62cm balloon-chested body. Plus the head is flat in the back, without any bulge for a wig to hang onto, so she went through every wig I had here (which is consideable), and still looked like a pinhead.

So, for more practice, I refined some parts of her face - slight jowls, and very sharp lower lid ledges that didn't look natural. Then she sat in a box. Tried her briefly on a YID old-skin-normal Ipehouse girl body, but that was being used by a Lion mod. In 2011, aquired an old Delf girl body which got taken by a Miyu head, which then vacated a secondhand de-boobed Soom girl body, which being a very yellowed-white, matched her tone. (Her original body is still up for sale. Give it another two years, and then there will be a massive modding/frankendolly project I can see happening with it-- )

Along with the Remiel head, waffled over having someone else do the faceups, since by now I saw them as siblings because of the basic sculpt resemblances, but just a month or two ago, ended up trying them out myself. And ended up with:

Big brother was in need of an eye change to end the stoned look:
But he's still in need of a more flattering wig for that strong-featured face. And his upper body strains the clothing collection that fits fine on my Renji, so now I have to start investigating things like Souldoll Zenith and Iplehouse SID/EID-wear.

The Lily is meant to be a bit sickly-looking - the Soom Gem body has an existing extensive blushing that has pinks with bits of cyanotic blue, and I'm not going to do a massive deblushing anytime soon. Plus it has girly-girl Delf hands, making this doll's gender rather indeterminate. (Plus the head already had deep "pockets"? or stress-lines under the eyes.) The grey eyes are ok, and people like the curly wig, but it's a !)(!(*)#(* to control - the only saving grace is that it stays on her/his head without gluing. But a search is on, as well as for generic male-type clothing that will fit a thin, female-torsoed, short body --
      [IMG]

None of my other dolls have given me as much work and trouble as these two!

    15. This girl was born-created just in time for the 8th anniversary --
at our most recent DoA gathering in N.E. Florida/St. Augustine. I had some unusual plans for how to put her together but could never have pulled it off without all the helpful and skilled hands at the meet.
She doesn't have a long history,
but perhaps a relevant one. ..................... Do you think :arainclou she is still "Behind the Eight"
      in the edited vision?--> [IMG]

If her issues don't quite fit the nature of "problematic" that you want in this thread, we'll understand. :(

Prior to my edit, see original taken FOR me by ookami-chan03. cHECk OUT tHoSe arms...[not MY arm ^^]
She will require some careful photo staging in the future. Or sensitive edit-help as I have now applied.

AND NExT ~ before her "EMERGENCY SURGERY" to correct her SLIPPED-DISK short neck. I wanted her to have a LONG neck, but our first attempt at the neck/head joining ~ mmmm, it managed to do a major slip-down during her first photos. Fortunately with some extra attention our gang was able to bring her to her current STABLE and
lovely -- in MY opinion anyway self = the TOP photograph that is.

In the one below she is the QUEEN of
      SAD SACK.
      {
      After her repair she now has a remarkably agile and LONG neck}
      [IMG]<--A BEHIND THE EIGHT moment.
i'M fairly certain that was how she was feeling. ^^ Especially since we posted the photo for posterity. Like those embarrassing bare butt photographs Mom's are known for bringing out on first dates. har, har // I can just hear her muttering under her breath: "Aww, com' on guys. You've got to be kidding..."

The main surgeon was calebb who said upon her birth that she was "kick a_ _" ~ You know, with 2 "s - s" es?
I dubbed her "Victoria GoLightly" {nickname V.G. or ViGi} which is also a reminder
of V G = "Very Good" just as God said of his humans after their creation [in the book of Genesis].
Maybe we will stick to this nickname because Victoria GoLightly has so far brought on this comment:

.............QUOTE: "yay [IMG] i really like the way your Ms.GoLightly looks. (sorry all i can think of is Uni-yoshi's voice from breakfast at tiffany's) . END QUOTE from Mardar85 who is from Naples and visited our meet photo thread. ............Haaa,,, Some might say
that comment is "landing-behind-the-8-ball" for a girl who thinks she is quite lovely. [IMG]
Perhaps a post on here and the attention you offer "will help her luck turn around" if she needs that.

The first photo is of her standing on our imaginary beach hanging on the wall in the conference room of the Library where she was birthed. My "Venus" having arrived on our shore, and now safely in the pocket [8-ball]
at least as far as I am concerned. And that is all that really matters, right?

Hope the 3 photos will be acceptable?? since she is kind of a different doll in each one?

    16. When I met Ursa Fae, she was a bald, naked, eyeless alien of an MSD. She was one of the many things on the guest bed my friend was clearing so that I would have a place to sleep & she looked so very lonely. The next day I talked my friend into giving her a faceup & finding some eyes even though she had that big chinned Dollinian face & a challenging body to pose she deserved some attention!
My friend showed me how to make her a wig & sent her home with me where she's always on the edge of working. Cute in person, she doesn't like to have her picture taken. And she's a tad stand offish while the other MSD's here have formed a happy clique.
Last year, I found a DOC body which gave her a more kid like body, as well as being a better poser. So then the clothes I'd made her before didn't fit & she needs a new wardrobe!
This year, her old body proved satisfactory for a Unoa head my friend gave me. And oddly enough with some glue sueding, it works worlds better with that head than it ever did for Ursa! X0
Here's the best photo I've gotten of her lately. She just got a new dress & matches the other girls for a change & gave me a smile...
Maybe someday she'll need a different faceup & eyes along with some thought as to whether getting her old body back would be a good idea... but all thru the challenges, she manages to avoid getting shut away in a box out of sight & out of mind!

Fiachra has been my trouble ever since the early stages of ordering. Here's the tale of ordering her custom body: http://www.denofangels.com/forums/showthread.php?510748-Nobility-Doll-Custom-Order-Feedback

And here's the long mod thread, all pics on the first page for viewing convenience: http://www.denofangels.com/forums/s...Maiden-Journey-of-a-Nobility-60cm-Muscle-Body ...as I try to repair the damage done to her sculpt by the company and make her a functional BJD.

She went from a dusty, nonfunctional, heavily seamed box of parts to a rather nice dolly who can stand and pose and move now. I'm starting to be able to love her at last! All she needs now is tattoos.

    18. Well perhaps not a sad a tale as some of the others, but here's my dear Adelais

You might notice that 'Lais is a head on a glue bottle right now...

He's a Smiling Zack Fair minimee. There were only 10 of them made, to my understanding, and I saw him for sale on the MP and liked his nose and gentle smile. I actually thought he might work for a completely different OC of mine, so I snapped him up, just in case, knowing that if I didn't get him, I probably wouldn't ever have the chance to get another of the sculpt. But when he arrived he was all wrong for Yuki, so he went in the head box.

My best friend wanted to practice faceups on him, so he went down to visit Lintila. Next thing I know, she's saying, "I think he's 'Lais!" and showing me pics and what do you know, he really was. So he came home again, still bodiless but at least with a face and identity.

Now, Adelais is supposed to be a big guy. Broad and solid muscle. He's a warrior, a soldier, built like a linebacker. So I needed to find a body that would work for that, while also still looking proportional to his head size (so EID is probably out). I finally decided to try the Mega Gem body, knowing I'd have to mod his head and possibly his neck to make it work, and that he'd probably have to be reblushed to match.

Now begins my first negative MP transaction ever. I've bought a ton of things off the MP, done plenty of layaways. Everything's always been fine. Found a NS Monzo body for a good price, within the country so shipping not to terrible, seller's feedback had a history of slightly slow shipment, but everyone'd always gotten their stuff and I wasn't in a hurry. Arrange the layaway, paid him off over 6 weeks, wait for shipping.

I PM the seller once a week to check on shipping status. Always the same...too busy, got called into work...eventually I stop getting any responses at all. Was able to file a paypal dispute on the last payment, but my first two payments were older than 45 days. I'm out over $300 and now Adelais doesn't have a body anymore!

This happened *right* at the end of the Soom body sale. On very last day of the sale, I managed to put a Mega Gem body on layaway with Soom. Recent Soom NS has been super pink though, so I think he's going to need a lot more blushing to match than if I'd gotten that Monzo body. And I still don't even know for sure that this body will even work. I don't know anyone with a Mega Gem so I'm just going by pictures of another Mega Gem I saw with a minimee head to even guess the proportions will work.

So Adelais still sits in limbo. Two layaway payments left on a body that I don't even know for sure will look proportional, that I will have to mod to even fit him on it if it is proportional, that he will have to be re-blushed to match, and I'm still $300 in the hole.

So he just sits in his son's lap... waiting...

Here is my poor impulse buy! I saw a Lume Doll 28cm Arine for sale on the auction site and for reasons still unknown, I purchased her. There is nothing wrong with her at all, I just don't know why I pressed the 'Buy It Now' button. Even though she was female, all I could see was a guy even with the wideish hips-so out came the files! I also sanded down the full lips to make them thinner. He looked great, but I still put him away in a drawer as I still had no character for him, sigh.

Then inspiration struck (due to lack of funds to get a Batchix Gamma)-I could mod him into my own robot! I used Apoxie Sculpt to make the raised parts and used white and cinnamon spray paint to color him. I left the head and neck normal flesh. I still need to make a helmet for him, but I am pleased with how he turned out -FINALLY! For some reason I could not give up on this one, and I'm glad I didn't.

    20. I've got one for here... meet Cheshire.

He's two of a kind. The other one is owned by Guide, the designer of the head.<3 It was total love at first sight, and he was the second doll I ever got.

When he arrived, it became apparent that like many other early minimees, his head is GINORMOUS. Plus, DiM's resin is an unusual color, and moreso back in 2006. With no clue what body to get, I snagged one in the MP for a good price- a Domuya flexibody. Resin match-terrible. Proportion-terrible. Even dressing him neck to toe only helped so much. Plus, anyone who's ever handled one knows that they are a nightmare. No wonder he never got played with. He also sported a knee length lavender wig, which I shall now call the Tangle Queen. I couldn't even make him stand. He spent time lounging on a shelf.
On a whim, I tried the head on my old DZ 70cm body, and the fit and proportion was perfect. The head had also faded over time to match another DZ white body I had perfectly. So, it was decided to upgrade him to a white 70cm body at some point. Since his current body was only 60cm, I put off making him new clothes, as they would not fit his future body. In fact, the single outfit he did have, I made based on my 70cm patterns, and just took in the waist, to be let out later. Time passed. Other dolls were in the works, and were more interesting to me at the time, so on a shelf he remained draped, in his only outfit that was too big.

I got the opportunity to buy the DZ white 70cm body for a great price, and it shipped from China in only the flimsy DZ box!! He arrived with a broken finger- a small price to pay considering the state of the box on arrival.
However, there was a free outfit included, with boots! Cheshire only had a pair of Chinese slippers that I made, and they would in no way fit his new body. At the time of his creation, there was very little Chinese style footwear available , and none for 70cm that I could find. Then, those boots were stolen by another doll. Chesh wears long flowing robes, so who can tell if his feet are bare, right? Aha, I feel so bad about it- I always promise to buy him a pair of DZ Chinese slippers every time I get doll funds, but now the boot thief has new jointed hands...

Chesh smiles through all of this, as that's really the only way he can look, but he's happy. His character is the servant to a princess, so he's ok with not getting much. However, I do love the heck out of him. He is the first doll I'm likely to hug and talk at if I've had a bad day. His stupid happy face is like therapy. :'D If I had to sell all but one doll, there's no question he'd be the one to stay. BTW, I did steal the boots back for him!

    21. This is my Sad Sack Doll, Abel. He was naked until yesterday, when my friend finally got tired of seeing his genitals.

He is an Iplehouse YID Louis (my favourite sculpt ever) on an old DIM MNM/Love body. As anyone who owns that body knows, they've got a crazy back arch and therefore cannot even sit. I decided, since I got the body so cheaply, instead of selling it and buying a more expensive one I would try my hand at modding and just fix it. I fixed his back problems, but, oh no, that wasn't enough. I wanted more. Thus begins the story of poor Abel.

You may think his arms look a little funny, yes? That's because he doesn't have any. I completely removed the elbow joint with plans to make double joints. I got decently far along until I got bored of sanding. Thus, he is now wearing a holiday sweater that I can hang his hands on. The best part is, poor Abel doesn't even have the privilege of staying on his armless body; I've been using it to hold an impulse purchase head that I know I'm going to sell. So someone who is soon to be out the door has a higher priority than my favourite sculpt!

His backstory makes him an even sadder Sad Sack. Long story short, no matter how hard he tries his parents only pay attention to his wasteful, unaccomplished brother. His mother's missing a few screws and only thinks she has one child - so she doesn't even know poor Abel's name. His story ends (or perhaps begins? depends how you look at it) when he is strangled by his brother just for the heck of it.

And that is my Sad Sack Doll.

    22. Soren... my poor vain vampire guy who is just a head. :doh

I fear that, unless I win the lottery sometime in the (near) future, this poor guy will be bodiless for a very, very, very long time. :/ Admittedly that's partly because, shortly after getting him, I fell head-over-heels in love with Soom tinies and Soom limiteds... >.< But it's mostly because my doll fund has been 100% completely empty for a while now thanks to being unemployed.
Soren was very vocal about his bodilessness at first, but he's definitely resigned himself to that state now. And, as much as it pains me to admit it, he rarely comes out of his box anymore... :( There's only so much you can do with a bodiless head (especially when you live in a very tiny apartment with storage issues).
I still adore him, and he was the first doll I bought (well, part of one anyway) that really gave me that heart-stopping, "WOW!" moment when I first opened his box (despite those crazy eyelashes! lol!). :aheartbea I don't think I could ever give him up, even though it breaks my heart that he is forced to live as just a head, which is a bit embarrassing for such a vain, suave, sexy vampire guy. :sweat
