Bambi crony's quality control

Jun 7, 2007

    1. I ordered two elf Pepe with fist hand parts and wing parts at 26/2, and recived them at 1/4. (late already)

My friends and me found many problems when we were cleaning up Pepe's deep side modeling line.We just coulden't believe Bambicrony can actually send those items to clients!

Here are the problem items I listed.

Please see the pictures below :
      ------------------------------------------------------------------
      Scratch Surface:

Secondly, one of my Pepe's right arm can't strecth:

and the final problem, Bambi gave one of my Pepe's wings set the same side wings:

Top is problem pair, and below is normal one.

      Totally are:
2 pair fist hand parts(normal skin)
2 pair extra Pepe hand parts(normal skin)
2 pair normal hand parts(normal skin)
      1 right arm
      1 left leg
      1 CBWF-1 wing

      ----------------------------------------
I wrote to Bambicrony at 3/4,their replay was "We are going to make a new mold and cast new part in weekend,we will send new parts to you as soon as possible."
Ok, then I waited until 25/4,asked them again. They said "I'm sorry but we don't have spare parts of normal skin, so we couldn't ship them.
We're gonna cast normal skin parts in the beginning of the next week."

Good, then I waited until they started sell new dolls!!
They have time to do new dolls, but don't have time to solve those problems?
I was so angry and wrote the opened message on their Q&A board.(Which been locked immediately by BC.)
      They said they forgot...

Now I recive my new hand and foot parts.
Will, I can't tell the difference between new and old items.See the pics below and you will understand what I mean.

The new arm I got was the same as old one, still has same problems.
I guess those are " good quality" for BC...

I don't want write to BC anymore. Instead, I choose to post this on DoA,then BC can't lock my post.

    2. you arnt the first to complain about BCs quality control
      but thats terrible
I cant open the picture of the leg ....
      but
that arm is an aweful fit
and those hands would drive me NUTs if I recieved them like that :x
      ...

      I would complain again

please let us know what they say

    3. I'm sorry to hear thats happened to you. I would definitely contact them to complain. I understand that seam lines aren't considered defects, but this is way too much. The left over resin dust is awful!

Definitely email them those picks and see if they can replace or refund you. :o

    4. oh god you're not the only one - -b My friend recently received -W- BC PePe ..and the hands looks almost the same to yours..and the worst thing is that her PePe is one leg longer than the other - -b

And I believed that she got her PePe no earlier than this week

    5. THank you for sharing these problems I've added a link to general discussion bambicrony. They need to work out their quality control issues and future buyers need to know the possibility of not so perfect dolls

    6. Oh my god o_O; Wow... Those hands are awful! Their QC has really gone downhill...

My BC Kumi has a similar problem with the arm; but so do my friend's BCs, so we figured it was a general fault with the mold (as well as the knee popping out backwards sometimes)

    7. That sucks! I would probably insist on a refund. I can understand seamlines, but that's just messy. If this was a kit then I might even understand the dust and excess, but it wasn't, correct?

If I was a newbie and received hands like that, I wouldn't have a clue how to sand them or make them look good. Some of those fingers don't even look like they would look ok even sanded.

*Hugs* I hope you get a refund or sent better parts!

    8. Wow, and I flipped out over the rapid fading/discoloring issue. If I got a doll like this I would be positively homicidal! I would absolutely let BC know my dissatisfaction with them and demand that they send you out a quality product. They certainly have the capability--not everyone got a doll with such shoddy workmanship. Hand made product my a**, there isn't any excuse for this.

    9. That is awful, I am scared to see what my snow skin Kumi will be like when she arrives. Just wondering if anyone has received their dolls from the pair event and has anyone had any problems?

    10. As you already noticed I had a similar problem , noly worse

it´s all over the body and also the fact that it´s a resin they´re not making anymore (apparently)

I hope you ge tto solve your problem as I seriously doubt my thing will end well

    11. The 4th clickable link does not show picture.

Some of the problems look bad. A couple of the hand pictures just look like incomplete sanding (example - photo 2). Some BJD owners do final sanding themselves, and others ignore small areas of roughness. But many your problems look like molding flaws. Molding flaws, bumps, and large bubbles are bad.

About one longer leg - 43cm Narae also has one slighter longer leg (a $500 french resin mini). But it is a problem if one Bambibicrony leg is longer because knee does not fit.

      Carolyn

    12. This is really sad, i think you deserve your money back or at least a perfect new replacement doll.
I will also be crossing BC dolls off my wish list for the time being, at least until i have heard through the DoA grapevine that they have sorted out their dreadful QC problems.
This really is'nt good enough, it is'nt even as if the dolls were cheap! You could understand it if they only cost a few $'s but not the amount we pay for these dolls.
I am seriously beginning to wonder that as more and more people get into BJD's these companies won't be able to cope with the demand and the quality will drop and drop - but not the prices!

I hope you get a refund or new doll:aheartbea

    13. That is *beyond* unacceptable. They can't show a photo of a perfect doll on their website and then send you a defective one. If you were in the same country, you'd have a legal claim for sure...gah, stuff like this reminds me of how risky it is to order expensive items from overseas :(

It seems like Bambicrony bit off more than they could chew with all these new molds and sales and whatnot. Too much, too quickly, I guess.

Good luck, and I hope everything works out for you!

    14. It really depends on the company. Some companies know their limits and produce dolls in limited quantities.

So it really comes down to are people willing to live with soldout issues but get good quality dolls or we'll take your order and give you shoddy work if they can't handle it.

During the sale of the colored elves the soldout sign showed up more than once for the dolls. People lamented and bambicrony relented by taking off the soldout signs

    15. Good lord, this is horrible! If I didn't already have my Sisley, I would never consider ordering from this company now. First it's the color fading, then the problems with the resin, and now this. It wouldn't be quite *so* bad if they were quick to make reparation for the problems, but they don't even seem to have good customer service.

I don't think it's intentional, I suspect it's a problem with extreme growing pains. They want to do so much, and think they can, but then when they find out they're not quite ready, they can't admit it in order to save face. Regardless of the reasons, it still leaves us, the customers, with shoddy goods for a considerable amount of money spent.

I hate to see this, the dolls are so adorable in their pictures. But if what you see isn't what you get, then ultimately folks will stop ordering. My Sisley is mostly ok, but does have blobs of resin to be sanded off, and she has to be restrung to get the knot out of one shoulder, she can't hold that arm up as well as the other. I count myself lucky that those are the only problems I've encountered. I truly hope Bambicrony can pull out of this downward spiral before it's too late.

    16. IMHO
There is never an excuse for shoddy workmanship - you would'nt accept it from the shop down the road, you would take the item back and demand a refund:) People wouild'nt think you were mad to expect good workmanship or a refund.
We buyers pay lots of our good hard-earned moolah for these dolls and the companies are quick enough to take it off our hands.
I say no to shoddy and won't be ordering from BC until they get their act together again.

    17. 0.0 eek.

I almost bought one of the colored elves. The company has such nice ideas and pretty sculpts but unfortunately I'm going to have to say I'm glad I didn't buy one, after all the problems I've seen people experience.

    18. It looks like it might be the same leg issue someof the rest of us are having -- the knee doesn't sit in the joint quite right and the thigh joint doesn't sit flush, which makes the leg a little longer... which I wouldn't mind if it didn't make the doll almost impossible to stand barefoot. @_@

    19. I hope you can get it resolved.

      Carolyn

    20. Well that's totally put me off buying from them. Shan't waste my hard earned money!

    21. I agree I was just stating what my observation seems to happen. I once ordered a doll fom another company and the resin had an awful smell and the head sculpt and eyesockets were not at all like it was pictured. I never ordered from the place again nor do I plan to.

It's sad with bambicrony as it seems their customer service and quality control is variable. Lately I've noticed they went from ok to worse. I work for my money too so I've recently resolved to hold off on buying from BC until things get better.

Each time I've ordered there were small issues and I ignored it because I didn't want to make a mountain out of a molehill. I feel bad as I really supported this company.

      • x 1
    22. wow. and wow. when I got my pepe, i was so happy. i was thrilled even, with the quality and gravitated to the BC site where I saw so many dolls I wanted more.

I'm glad now that I didnt order more.

I did buy a previously loved BC doll ,but I was able to see the exact doll and its quality.

I like the molds, I like the posibility, but seeing the current quality, I cant see myself getting another from BC directly (from someone elses connection, where i see what I'm getting, thats okay)

    23. That is terrable. I worry because I want a bc girl so bad, but I don't know if it is worth dealing with that.

    24. Wow, Greenleaf, that is inexcusable. I'm so sorry you (and others) have had negative experiences with Bambicrony.

I'll admit that I have been one of their biggest fans since all of my dolls have been perfect. I have 3 NS elves and one MR elf.

Does anyone know if they use the same mould casing for every doll they cast in the special colours?

It may not make any sense, but is looks to me like by the time they got to the end of the run, the coating on the moulds may have been worn down, and the resin stuck in places.

A company's "good will" is very valuable, and when buying a business, a company with a good reputation can cost a lot more than the inventory is worth - good will has an actual value. So I would think it would be worth their while for BC to make sure everyone is happy with their product.

It would be worth the time and money for them to replace any dolls that are unsatisfactory, even if it means remaking moulds and fixing their resin formulas. That cost is far less than the cost of ruining a good business reputation.

I think DOA members have been reponsible for a large percentage of Bambicrony sales. Is there anything we could do to help the buyers getting substandard dolls?

    25. I think they were using the same molds for the elves irregardless of color. Someone suggested it when some of the LSG elves looked purple that perhaps they were cast after the pink. Also the popping leg problem has been reported in many colors. The popping leg problem is from mold. Bambicrony did get a lot of orders for these elves so it's quite possible the deteriorating molds and resin reaction could have something to do with the bad batch of parts and dolls.

I tried posting problems on Bambicrony before for others especially with the fading/yellowing problem. Other than saying keep your doll out of the sun and coating your doll with a discontinued MSC they were of little help.

I personally have gotten thanks for pointing out these problems your helps is invaluable to us yada yada . It's great for improving our products kind of replies. Though I sadly have seen decreased quality not improved quality :(

So I really don't know how we can help other than not buying into all their great promotions until they decide to improve Quality Assurance

    26. I was'nt having moan at you AreeElf it's just that these companies get to me sometimes. I have heard so many awful stories of shoddy quality and bad/dismissive treatment of customers that i cannot bring myself to deal with companies who don't make good their mistakes and apologise to thier customers.
grrrrrrrr - if i was a dog i would be chewing on a slipper now:roar

    27. I've wondered about the molds too. I did not see problems like this before the colored elves.

      Carolyn

    28. I too was not happy with the hands I got with my two colored elfs I had to do a ton of clean up on them...after waiting *well* past the 20 working days mark. I love the dolls but they really need to tell people that there's a long wait time and watch the product that leaves there shop.

    29. PrincessAI436 had a problem with the bubble in the hands. I remember her taking a long time resolving it. She also was upset with the grainy feel to the resin surface. Bambicrony finally sent her a pair of replacement hands after much messaging and emailing. She was so aggravated that she ended up selling her doll. At the time it seemed like a bad fluke issue as no one else was having major quality control issues.

I think it is their molds deteriorating.

    30. You have every right to be upset, and I hope that it all gets resolved!

I once received a doll from a different company that had those same problems. Although in my case it was a lemon - as I've never seen another of their dolls have that problem - I'm not buying from that company again. I was too appalled at what I received and that they painted his face and everything but failed to notice all the problems the resin had. I contacted the company to let them know about the problems but they said it was normal, so I sold him to someone else, and later discovered that it was not normal at all. I had only been the hobby for a month at that point.

    31. It's a shame that BC is having so many problems as of late. I bought a BC Kumi back when ELuts first offered them... I've since sold her, but she was an adorable doll with beautifully detailed little hands. I know there are plenty of people who love the BC molds and I hope the company can get it together and fix these quality control issues before their reputation is irreversibly destroyed with collectors.

    32. So sorry to see this...I love the bambicrony dolls...but for a company to send out anything less than a perfect product is SO wrong in my opinion.

    33. How depressing! I cannot believe they would be so cruel! Its hard to cast molds, i've had my share of tries, but its not too difficult to clean up the dolls after you've had them cast. It only takes an hour or so.

    34. As you all know I am rather upset too, I mean after all the waiting and exchange of nonsense messages ...this

I particularly ask them about the resin molds problem while waiting and got the answer " no problems at all, your doll came out perfectly" TWICE

and now we... on the post below you can see the issueswith my new doll

I am all but happy right now...but also not in the moood nor the stength to handle with the claim process

besides I am having major trouble to get the marks to show on pics..dunno why

    35. I haven't heard about the fading problem... can anyone point me in the direction of the thread (if there is one)?

    36. So disappointed in BC. My only experience has been positive with my little NS elf Pepe Kizzy who is just beautiful. After reading so many horror stories (which kind of started with the full sets not being as full as they implied) then the fading and now this. I think it is their disregard for customer care that sticks the most. I wont be ordering again from them. This and other threads should be highlighted to them so that they can fully appreciate the concerns potential customers are now having.

    37. My MR Pepe's default left hand have the same extra bits between the fingers similar to Greenleafs' and her right foot is also shiny.

I was disappointed that the hand wasn't cleaned up well and I thought the shiny foot was mold release.

Argh! My Lotti is to arrive Monday. I really do hope there is no issues with her...sigh.

      Lobelia

    38. The fist set of hands I got with my LSG Pepe were pretty much like that... But since they were not primary hands, I wasn't going to worry too much. The slicing between the fingers of his main hands was pretty bad, too, but, again... seems sorta in-line with BC quality (sadly!).

Don't have the legs and arm problems, though! That's bad. :(

As Bunny mentioned, with the colored elves I think there's no chance of getting replacement parts.

And if the replacements are the same...??? I guess there's not much to do after that! They obviously find that acceptable. ... But the joint problem! Hmmmm. *_*

    39. You know, I think it wouldn't be asking too much for them to re-do the elves that have issues. I think by the time they finished the LSG elves, they were probably so burnt out, they were willing to let the quality slide.

I know how that feels sometimes at the end of a really long day at work...

Maybe once they have thought about it, and heard and seen the problems, they will offer some sort of recourse.

It really is the only right thing to do.

    40. I definitely understand burn-out! But what if you saw that there were marks on some dolls, or ill-fitting joints, and yet you still sent out the heads for $100 ViYa faceups and still strung them together and took time to put them all in boxes and paid to ship them all overseas... Wouldn't it have saved time and trouble to just have made sure the dolls were good in the first place?

It seems the smart thing to do, no matter how burnt-out I was, since having to do everything else over again would be even worse! But... BC didn't do that. It's just weird to me. I can only think that they don't think the problems are problems at all! *_*

But if they DO replace some people's colored elves, I would think it was fair--I totally agree. I just hate all the waste of time and trouble... and I probably wouldn't take advantage of it in fear that other problems would remain (look at the replacement hands that were sent out!)--and the fact that I like the faceup I got and I don't think they'll be able to match the resin color if they re-made the bodies. :(

    41. They have heard about the colored elves fading problems it's not like they chose to address that or offer uv protected replacement. They supposedly said they tested the resin but fading within a month much less a day out in the sun doesn't sound like it was tested.

They were made aware of the popping leg issue but they still sent out dolls with that defect

They said there was no color difference between elves of the same color but pictures have proven that wrong.

I think the issue maybe a difference in expectation due to cultures. I've heard it said before that in Asia you take what you are given it's impolite to complain.

Burnout seems like a copout answer for letting quality drop like that. Considering these dolls not only cost a lot but they in some cases also had the extra $100 faceup you would think they would take extra care to send out good product. I'd like to point out that they chose to deal with burnout by doing the pair doll offer. Doesn't sound like they are burnt out to me.

I luckily have learned to like my faded elf's color, but for others it's distressing. I've also found the fix to my doll's popping leg problem but that's because I have the proper tools to mod my doll.

    42. I totally agree with april

ok one can have molding issues, but how in the name of ** can you send a doll like this to the customer!!!!!
as I said in my thread... they do think I am so stupid I would´nt notice???

How can you put all the parts together, string it, send iot to viya for a faceup and then ship it and feel your work is done and just forget it????

I just can´t possibly understand this way of thinking

if they are burnt out I am more burnt out with college stuff, more burn out with having to visit the Q&A a zillion times during this threee months to get incomplete answers and LIES, more burnt out with deciding not to give up the hobby to help me recover the worst experience in my life and come to ... this situation...and worst, the only person that derserved my well earned money is Viya, the behaviour of the company itself is beyond comment-.......

and I am having huge trouble to make the marks show correctly on pics..

(man I should be studying my next exam not taking pics!.......yesterday´s exam went perfect, thanks you guys for the good thoughts sent XD)

    43. Thats really bad. I bought my Kumi elf earlier this year and luckily she was perfect but if i'd seen your poor Pepe before i'd ordered I wouldnt have gone near them. I hope they are honourable and replace the whole doll or at least the bad parts.

    44. please refer to my thread for pictures I just uploaded them

I put just three images and links to the rest there where many many pics and I thought maybe this was to much

so there are the links Ithink you should all give a look to know what I am talking about

I am glad your Kumi got home in perfect condition Lellytos, I think it was just the grey pepes

    45. Bunny, I saw your pics and if I was you, I'd be livid. I hope BC does something that is acceptible to you to fix the problem. I wont be ordering from them again until they do.

    46. thank you^^
I asked the mods and posted about it in the feedback section on the marketplace

I just can´t stop looking at the pics

    47. Bunny I hope you do well on the est of your exams and get a resolution on this problem soon

    48. I hope no one thought that I was excusing the poor quality because of burn out. As I said, they need to make this better for the affected buyers, and improve in the future if they are going to stay in business.

Does anyone know what Bambicrony's return policy is? Also, if you pay with paypal or credit card, can you make a claim against them that way?

    49. well with paypal you get one month to claim your money back, the thing is that I waited for motr than three months sothe period has expired:doh

thanks much aree I did do very well on the first one^^

    50. Bunny did you fund the paypal with a credit card you may be able to file a credit card dispute depending on the policy of the credit card company

    51. Funnylori, good for you!

A lot more of you should. If they're locking the forums... potential customers should know!

It's just wrong. :/ I really hope you guys could get this sorted out.

Is it possible to file a PP claim for this though? (I hope so!) But, are you able to for item disputes?

      Good luck guys!!

    52. FunnyLori--are the photos still up? I didn't see any...

Bunny--definitely concentrate on your exams and not your doll--One thing at a time will help keep you sane!

And as AreeElf suggested--if you used a credit card through PayPal, you may still be able to do something through your credit card company.

mortimer--Unfortunately, the dolls took over 2 and a half months to get to us, so that's beyond the VERY LIMITED Paypal period for disputes (grr--both ebay and paypal are so useless by the time most people discover a problem!)

    53. I think they did take the gallery post down. :/ I hope more people start bombarding it, that would be awesome.

Ugh. That's just not right. :/ Is there anything that can be done for you guys then?

    54. FunnyLori--can you post your photos somewhere on DoA? In Bunny's thread, maybe? I'd love to see them.

Is it just us three who have those light marks??? Are all the other LSG Pepes in the last batch OK? I'm really curious!

    55. I think she did post them on the coloured elves thread, I think I saw that pic before and it´s no t in my thread

I did not want to upload any pics to their gallery yet, I first wrote a message "calmly" and I was waiting for their reply

I t is weird that they took it down though, I thpught no one was thre during weekends and that´s why I did´nt get a reply

In Spain, the laws to protect the customer have gotten pretty stronger this year. If I don´t get an answe that´s the next step rather than dealing with bank stuff. After all I did get the doll I paid for , even if it´s damaged, maybe that´s beyond the credit card policies. So if they do nothing my next step will be this thing called " the customers office" I don´t know much about this nor the new laws yet , but I could always just ask for advice

    56. Wow, that's terrible!

    57. My picture was actually taken down off the BC website! Supprised, no... Disapointed in their action, yes!

      I shall post away!
