OT/General Ball jointed doll finishing service?

Apr 9, 2012

    1. What exactly is a bjd finishing service anyway? I've been searching around the net now for quite some time and i cant seem to find the answer to this question. What exactly do they do to the prototype? Or is that something that's done to the resin casts?

    2. Either it means seam sanding of the castings, or it could mean the priming and preparation of the masters before molding. For example, I finish my masters before sending them to Dollshe, I sand and I apply primer. But they also apply their own kind of primer before molding, and check if there is any rough areas that I missed. If there are they will notify me and either send them back for me to fix or charge me a fee to fix them. The first time I sent my masters to them, the insides of the knees were rough, and they charged me $200 to fix it.

You really want to send you masters away as finished as possible, because you more than anyone care about how your doll looks when finished, and know what you want it to look like. If you get a reproduction company to do it for you, it will cost you money, plus it might not end up how you want it, some companies make alterations to your doll, for example to make it easier to mold, or make corrections that you haven't necessarily asked for.

    3. OOOOOH. I see. Yeah i agree it's definitely better to finish everything off before sending it out. How long was the wait for your pieces from dollshe?

    4. I waited about 4 months for my first order, the estimate for my second order is 2 months. This because even though the order is twice as big, the production methods have been upgraded and streamlined and they were ready to start on my project when the pieces arrived with them.

    5. Oh i see :D that really isnt as bad as i thought it would be :D + your dolls look gorgeous.
