Equipment Backdrops for photos?

Oct 24, 2023

    1. Hello doll friends!

I am relatively new to this hobby, and I am looking to do some photoshoots with my doll family.

Does anybody have recommendations for where to buy backdrops? I am mostly interested in backdrops suitable for 1/6 and 1/4 scale dolls. I am especially interested in garden, agrarian, ballroom, and lavish mansion scenes. Thank you!

    2. I've seen some on Etsy, at least for 1/6 size

    3. Check out Legenddoll. They have several in different sizes. I got some of theirs and they're good quality.

    4. There are tons of dolly backgrounds on eBay.
Search for 1/4 BJD photo backgrounds.
Personally I have made poster size (20x30 enlargements of my own photos.
and I use them a lot.

If you use Photoshop, Adobe recently introduced generative fill to that tool
so anything you can describe it will create for you. Then you can composite
your doll into that; or you can composite your doll into your own photos..

    5. I've had good luck going on Amazon and searching for '< whatever keyword you want > tapestry'. What comes up aren't actual tapestries but images printed on a thin cloth, and you can choose various sizes. I like the two I have so far and I plan to order more. The only hiccup I've found is that they do show fold lines, if you store them folded up.

    6. These aren't really the specific type of backdrop you're looking for, but for anyone looking for backdrops in general, there's a company I got an ad for on insta recently that makes backdrops and small props intended for ""aesthetic"" product photography.

The backdrop sheets could probably be used for 1/6 and possibly 1/4 scale, and they have stuff like holographic and iridescent backdrops, as well as generic ones like fake tile, fake sky, checkers, etc.

They also sell glass (?) cubes and spheres that refract light, and plain resin shapes as props but they're kind of expensive.

If you do more modern or abstract photos I think the stuff could make some cool photos, but I've never tried buying from them before so I don't know about the quality personally.

    7. I have found that buying posters on EBay works well for me. You can just put in a search for what you want such as 'Winter Forest Scene'. I have found some very inexpensive posters there. I have a large, thick piece of styrofoam that I pin the posters onto. When I'm finished I just roll them back up and store them away. The only thing is that if the paper is glossy you do have to be careful not to catch a light reflection. I can play around with the light source to avoid this! I've bought bjd backgrounds on EBay from China but they're more expensive and they take too long to arrive from China! I also use photo scrapbooking paper for my 1/6 and smaller dolls. Again, you can find a photo scrapbooking site and do a search for whatever you're looking for. Just be sure to order 2 or 3 of the same sheets so you can place them alongside each other to make a wider background. I've made bamboo forests, autumn scenery, the inside of a barn, etc., by using scrapbooking papers! I also have a fabric sheet of clouds against a sky that gets used over and over again.

    8. Another option for outdoor stuff is to get a photo from Unsplash and have it printed as a poster whatever size you need. Poster printing isn't too expensive, so that + a tip for the photographer on Unsplash is comparable to a lot of things sold specifically as backgrounds.

    9. I bought a cheap white cotton flat sheet from Amazon. I throw it over a 3 panel room divider I already had. Perfect for my style of digital composite photography.

I use my own photography, digital elements and Pexels images to create custom backgrounds and edit in Gimp because my crew live 100 years in the future in dystopian corporate compounds.

    10. backdrops are all over yahoo japan for next to nothing.
