Hopefully by the time i read this next someone will have a solution to my picture problem. It wont let me upload anymore photos :/

Anywhoo, ive attached hip joints that ive made and changed the face a bit, made her a bit more asian looking. I made my own joints for this but im not sure if that was the best idea. Im thinking of switching over to wooden balls/ beads but i havent decided yet.

Thats it for now, thanks for looking!

    5. Hello fellow cat lover, lbrevner

Looks pretty darn good and you did all that in one weekend? You are freaking fast...

As for posting bigger pictures, click on "from URL" and copy and paste the image location from somewhere else. oh and don't forget to uncheck "Retrieve remote file and reference locally" that should let you post more than 3 images.

I am gonna go visit your blog now.

    6. She's beautiful! Really love the grace and line of her body, and I -adore- her face. Just a perfect mix between realistic proportions and stylized, um, style. :)

    7. Looks very graceful, I like her shape a lot (the face too :)). And the hip joints look very neat.

I have the same problem as you, I start so many dolls and work on them for so long but then the motivation goes away and I quit!

Hope you do finish this one!

    8. She looks really good. I also understand about the whole motivation thing. I haven't touched mine in months. It doesn't help that I lack space to work as well.

    9. LOL hi hi!

I wish i had done it over a weekend but sadly no, i just stockpiled images and posted them all at once ;)

Thanks for the help with the photos! Will be updating soon :)

P.S my website is actually working now if you still wanted to have a look!

    10. Thanks so much!! Thats exactly what i was hoping to achieve :)

    11. Me too! Though i think im going to take my time this time round, my mistake before was rushing everything and getting burnt out, patience is a virtue right!!

    12. I will be waiting for the updates. Visited your tumblog. You got really nice 2D works there. Keep up the good work!

    13. Decisions...

Ok so heres what ive been up to..

Ive cut the torso, changed the hip joints, worked on the head a bit, changed the eyes and now im stuck lol

Originally i had designed the joints to be as anatomically correct as possible with some things slightly more stylized. NOW though, i feel like im on a hans bellmer tip or something and ive become obsessed with the idea of literally ONLY using ball joints. Which of course compromises the "Human-ness" of the doll and makes her look less realistic. It doesn't bother me ( i quite like how it looks) but im hoping for some second opinions.

Ill show the photos and then ask the questions! lol

(P.S thanks to everyone for the photo help silly me!)

So as you can see, the hip joints arent connected any more and they're quite sharp looking, but i kind of like that, it loos like she has 50's underwear on and thigh high boots hahaha. Thoughts? Obviously once i attach them i would make the transition smoother (especially on the sides)

Im also at a loss as to what kind of knee and elbow joints i should do. I want to continue on with the obviously spherical joints but i want them to be double jointed.. Ill have to think about that.

This is what the profile looks like. As you can see, the waist joint isn't the most appealing from the side.. Thoughts?

      And then there's the face..

I did the left and the right eyes different. The left (our left) is more open and the right is more closed. They're both still really rough but i was hoping you guys could help me decide which to go with! I have no clue :( (also, you'll have to excuse how horribly un symmetrical the face is, i have to work on that bit lol)

Anything else you could add would be spectacular!

      Thanks for reading!

    14. I like the shape of the right eye more - I think it's softer and would look beautiful 'made-up'. But I'd suggest that the 'fold' at the side be softened a little... just a little.

As for the jointing - I like experimental joints, so I am maybe biased. For the legs, I would suggest that you make the outer edge taller than the inner edge at the point where it meets with the ball. That way the transition would be less obvious. So at the outer edge the ball sits more within the leg. I don't know if I've worded that very articulately! :o

      She looks wonderful so far.

    15. I think that the eye on our right is sitting quite low on the face, and for that reason I prefer the more open left eye, though I like the shape of the left eye better.

With regards to the joints, I'm a fan of spherical joints because although they might not look quite as organic, they offer the greatest range of motion, particularly in twisty poses. I also like the aesthetic of them more because they are literal ball joints.
with the knees and elbows you can get a large degree of motion even without using double joints, if you're willing to use quite large ball joints or do some interesting cutting out. For example Hanano has used single spheres in the knees of one of his dolls, but gets and almost full bend in the legs with a very natural appearance, Link to his blog post showing the knee, it's in Japanese though.

So far she's looking really lovely, I quite like the waist joint, even from the side, I'm glad you've started up again, I love your style. Can't wait to see more.

    16. You have a wonderful, "traditional" style. I love her high waist joint, thigh joint, and overall bodyline -- everything is fluid and mesmerizing because of how much it reminds me of those classical, Japanese BJD's. I thought of Alice in Labyrinth when I saw your doll! Keep up the great work.

    17. @irandom i completely agree about the pose-ability/ aesthetic of spherical joints! Im such a big fan of hanano which is funny that you mentioned him. I still haven't decided if im going to go to that extreme though, im worried that the knees will look bulky compared to the rest of the body. Thanks though, I really love your suggestion! (keep them coming XD )

    18. @7777777luck thanks so much! What a nice complimetnt :3

    19. limbless mess

Not much of an update, ill save the real pictures and questions for tomorrow. Just a quick picture i had posted on my instagram. I decided to add an extra joint to the torso so im working that out right now. I also fixed up the eyes a bit :)

I still cant decide how to make the elbow joints and knee joints so that they match the simplistic look of the torso joints. Which is mainly why she has no legs or arms yet hahaha XD

      thanks for looking!

    20. i love her torso, stylised yet beautiful, it reminds me of art nouveau in an odd sort of way
also, the vaugley supprised expression on her face is wonderfull :]

    21. Small world, I just started following you on Tumblr, and here you are again. Your progress is inspiring.
