I've read in a few threads about how some people don't like carrying around larger dolls because they're heavy, but I was wondering just how much do they weigh?
I just shipped a SD13 girl, and I was told the package weighed 7 pounds. ^^;; I'm sure you can find the real weigh of many different BJD if you look around here. Have you searched?
I looked a little bit, and googled it, but all I got was stuff about how the weight makes it expensive to ship.
^^ Though I can't tell you how much they way, as I don't yet have my boy, I can tell you that I personally find their weight reassuring It's one of the key factors which influenced me in getting a SD over an MSD, in fact! It CAN be tiring to carry an SD around for long periods of time.. ^^ But I'd say it's worth it, just to have that comforting weight in your arms.
That's good to know. I've never actually held one before, just seen them from afar. They feel pretty sturdy, right? I don't want to carry around something I'm afraid I'll break.
Each company's doll weighs a different amount, Volks Pureskin dolls usually weigh more than other dolls of similar heights, though.
When I was at AWA, I got to hold an El, and the weight suprised me. He was actually a lot lighter than I thought he would be. While there is a sturdy weight to them, they're not super-heavy or anything...and I'm pretty weak. I've got a thing with my wrist that makes it hurt really bad if I lift anything more than 10 lbs, so I know he was definitely less than that.
The weight depends. When I ordered my SD13 Tony they told me I was going to get an 11 lb. package. (OH MY GOD) ...But when I took him out, he was just around 5 lbs. or maybe more? Hmmmm.
When I first got my postage scale, the first thing I did was weigh a bunch of my dolls. XD The big ones ranged from around 3-5lbs.
Just curious, because I see comments about them being "hefty" or difficult to carry. I'm wondering if I've committed myself to a five-pounder here, or something. Let's say...from lightest (and what mold/company that would be) to heaviest (and same info). Metric is okay, I can always convert it.
According to my Lishe's shipping box, she was 1.5kg with her boxes and pillows XD But boys seem to be much heavier, ne?
oh man.. well I don't know specfics but I can tell you DoT boys are HEAVY AS HELL, all the weight is in the torso area.. Luts boys have a lot of weight in their legs
All my own dolls are pretty easy to carry. I'd say my heaviest is Kyle, my Iplehouse boy, and the lightest is Alice, a BuddyDoll girl. And yes, DoTs are heavy! I lifted one at a doll meet and was afraid I'd drop him >_< I also carried a Hound and that was a bit heavy too, but feels good resting in your arms or lap ^_^ It all depends on which doll you get, really, and even what shoes you put on him/her cause those platform boots add some weight.
Hi! I was curious to know the weight of a 60cm range dolls. Since the dolls are tall and big, I think it's gonna be quite heavy for me at least. Do dolls from different companies have different weight? I was thinking to buy a 70cm doll but if it's too heavy then I'll be crushed... haha ^^;;... I'm small and koffshortkoff and carrying a doll that's nearly about half of my size (height actually ) would be ....haha. But I don't mind though... Build up me arm muscle... muehehe... Your help is much appreciated. Thank you P/S: Sorry if I double posted this thread.
Yes. Dependent upon the resin the company uses, the doll will be heavier or lighter. Volks have very heavy dolls, of any size, due to the resin they use. Bobobie, on the other hand, uses a different resin and their dolls are quite a bit lighter than Volks issue. 70cm dolls are, without exception, heavier than their 60cm counterparts, at least within their company. If you do a search here on the forum, I'm sure someone has put up an average weight chart for the different dolls.
Thanks. I did found out that 70cm dolls are almost 2kg. I wonder if there are dolls that weigh more than 2kg
My larger doll range in height from 57cm to 80cm but my heaviest doll is not my tallest. The heaviest is still my Volks SD16 (I think he's 62cm? Can't recall) - built like a tank.
Thanks. In conclusion, the weight of a doll depends on the company's resin rather than the height itself. As for the resin itself, do heavy doll is more durable than light doll? I mean the lifespan of the resin on the inside and outside ^^;;
All dolls are prone to ageing and breakage, moreso if they are handled badly. After handling quite a few dolls most people develop a preference for one resin type or another. I prefer heavier dolls and my favorite resin type happens to be Volks but I don't have a problem with any of the other resin types I own.
I once briefly held someone's 70cm Buddy Doll (2.2 kg it say, on their website) and it was by far the heaviest doll I've ever felt. I think most 60cm dolls are lighter... one of the girl buddy dolls is listed as 1.2 kg (since they list their weights...).
I don't know--I have dolls at a variety of weights and haven't had any that seemed more prone to chipping/cracking/breakages than others (actually I haven't had issues with anybody). i expect under normal circumstances problems would be few with any of them. There are ways to test durability I'm sure, but I sure wouldn't want to risk dolls to do it. There maybe other factors than weight too like brittleness, airbubbles, resin that didn't cure quite right and other manufacturing issues. Some resin is also just naturally softer (easier to dent) than others as well. Another thing to mention is that most of these dolls really aren't all that old, so it's difficult to say how any of them will age.
Thank you so much for all the informations. Really appreciated it ^^ Hoo... so there really are dolls that weigh more than 2kg. I hold a SD17 before(thx shirou^^) and it's quite heavy. But I like the heaviness of the doll. So doll's weight, whether it's light or heavy doesn't affect their lifespan or durability. It all depends on the manufacturing process and how much the owner take care of his/ her dolls. The environment condition counts too I guess...
Well, now I think about it, I was thinking of buying a Volks doll... So, surprisingly, I feel really reassured to hear that they are heavy. To me that almost reassures the excellent quality that you ARE GONNA GET if you get a Volks doll. So yay! my random phrase for today: Strawbeery cake tastes like strawberries!
There was a tangential discussion about the heaviest boys and girls in some other thread in here quite a while back and someone made a comment about comparing the weights of the roundabout 60cm guys and girls to the weights of big hardback books like... anthologies and dictionaries. My Elfdoll Red weighs a little less than my Norton Anthology of English Literature?
Interesting discussion get me wonder how heavy are my Volks Sd13 and my Domuya Fin. So I went to weight them. Both under 2kg Volks 13 ~1.6kg, Domuya Fin ~1.7kg. No wonder I have got sore shoulder on sunday carrying a SD13 and unoa to the beach for photos.
some companies also change their resin composition every now and then. the CP el i go about 2 years ago is the heaviest of all my CP boys, and is easily 500g heavier than my CP elf chiwoo. so within the same company and doll size/type, the weight can vary as well.
I got the weight for my dollshe Saint, he comes out to around 2KG on my scale so not that heavy for a 70cm boy
ryog>> holy crap. o__o i surely hope some of that weight is the box and other packaging, man. a 4kg doll sounds insane to lug around. my friend's 70cm DZ body certainly didn't feel like 4kg, though.
I'm pretty sure it's with packaging - my Hound was 4,2 kg with his box/bag/accesories etc. But the doll itself is 'only' around 2kg...
i am not sure about that, it's just what i saw when i was at the hp from eden doll ^^' here is the link: http://www.edendoll.com/en/product/DL003937
i don't have any dolls, and i'm probably a ways away from being able to get one, but i was wondering approximately how much do they weigh? i heard they're heavier than they look, but that doesn't tell me much.
I find that my SD16 is still heavier than my SD17. Their hips and legs are roughly the same size but a lot of weight is added in the SD16's barrel chest -SD17 doesn't have that.
Now I think about it I suppose that is true but do you think Volks doll tends to be heavier than other make? Among my girls that is seems like the case (this is just observation I have not weigh them all)
Hello, I have read alot in the community where people say things about SDs being hard to carry around or they are too heavy, and I was wondering if anyone actually knew how much some SDs weigh or if somebody could give me an estimate?I don't have a doll yet and I just can't visualize how heavy an SD would be. I may need this information if I am ever thinking about getting an SD one day. Thanks.
I have to admit to wondering about this myself... especially now when I am hearing about the larger 70 cm dolls that are even heavier, I've read. I wouldn't be taking my doll everywhere (when I get one) but I expect that I'd go to doll meet ups and carrying the doll around for long periods might get a little tiring.
I have to admit, because I'm so used to carrying around Ryuichi now, and because, as a Paramedic, I'm used to carrying people + equipment + a heavy-ass stretcher [avg weight 100 pounds+], I find carrying around a 4lb doll plus his clothes and backpack not very difficult at all. I guess its all relative... Ryu
I usually carry two SDs a MSD and a tiny and I don't have any problem carrying them. And like Ryuichi I work in a job were I'm constantly lifting heavy things usually around 20 and 70 pounds or so.
Okay, here are four of my gang of different sizes, wearing average clothes and wigs... Bobobie Weylin, 60cm 1.07kg, 2lb 6oz DollZone Yuu, 70cm 2.04kg, 4lb 8oz Volks SD13 boy, Link 1.8kg, 4lb Volks SD13 girl, Emma 1.4kg, 3lb 3oz Linda S. galatia9
Iplehouse's EIDs weigh in at 3 kg (6.6 lbs); not quite average, obviously. XD I couldn't find an actual weight for the YIDs, though. o_O Carrying her around half the afternoon in her bag with a few clothes wasn't very pleasant on my shoulder, that's for sure. Neither was my DSLR camera, for that matter. I'll weigh her tomorrow on the postage scale and add to the list here.
Different brands have noticeably different weights. My DIM male is a hefty boy compared to my BG girl. But it's ok I just make my husband carry my guy
I did a search of the forum and didn't find a lot on this. I was wondering how much an average 60+cm resin doll weighs. Apparently it's different depending on where the doll comes from but is there a ball park figure? I would also like to know how durable the average doll is, ie. how much damage would it sustain if it were dropped from someone's arms (3-4 feet maybe); how would it break (shatter vs. popped strings or broken parts); what parts are the most likely to get damaged in the event of shoddy or accidental handling, etc. etc. I don't have a BJD (wishful thinking at this time). I ask because I'm writing a short story that involves dolls (BJD of course but I'm leaving out details for the sake of the general reading public) and I want to make sure my portrayals are accurate. The story is still in it's beginning stages but it helps to know what I can and cannot get away with while I write. . If this needs to be moved please let me know, or, if it doesn't belong on DoA at all, let me know that too. Cheers!
My friend dropped my MSD boy from her arms to the concrete ground at a convention. There was a very loud thunk and I flipped but he was 100% okay not a scratch although his head cap and wig went flying. Moral of the story being that these dolls are far more durable than at first glance. That being said, the face and fingers are the most delicate parts ^__^
Yikes, that would certainly cause a bit of a jump, to understate things. Good to know. . There also seems to be a degree of luck involved as to whether or not something breaks if dolly takes a tumble, going from some of the mishap stories.
erm... not sure if this is the place to post... but anyone got a Dollcatch Jade? 'Cause I'm thinking about getting one, but a bit worried about how heavy it'll be... ><
Hi! It don't have a Jade but I held one the other day. I personally thought he was very nice to carry... maybe the weight of a small textbook...? I liked him a lot ^^ EDIT: I'm taking the risk and getting one now XD XD I loved him so much. I just hope he doesn't come all busted like other DollCatch dolls..... Just had to share that because I'm so excited LOL
Do you happen to know how much they weigh? You said El was abt 500g heavier than Chiwoo; how much are those totals?
I’ve never noticed my SDs being at all heavy, I’d estimate they are no more than 3 lb. But I only own 56cm-62cm bodies. I also carry around my 23lb toddler for literally hours every day…
I weighed all my dolls on kitchen scales... units in grams. Spoiler: health checkup pics for fun and profit ~60cm girl - 1.6 kg / 3.5 lb (top row L-R) ~62cm boy - 1.8 kg / 4.0 lb 65cm boy - 1.8 kg / 4.0 lb 57cm girl - 1.3 kg / 2.9 lb (bottom row L-R) 51cm tall 1/4 mini - 0.7 kg / 1.5 lb 68cm boy - 2 kg / 4.4 lb (no pics of this) I've also weighed them naked but with eyes/hair. Clothing generally adds about 100-200grams (3.5 - 7 oz) to a doll's weight.
I measured and weighed my largies not too long ago. The heights were taken while laying flat and by eye (no end stoppers), so they may not be perfectly accurate. Weights were taken nude with eyes and putty in. DOD Black Elf Sha - 67cm, 1775g Migidoll Miho x SD13B - 59cm, 1620g SDGrB Williams - 62cm, 1606g Migidoll Ryu x SD13B Long Leg - 61cm, 1599g Iplehouse Louis - 62cm, 1413g SD Lieselotte - 53cm, 1283g 1.6kg seems like it'd be a decent estimate for 1/3rd boys from my Volks-biased data.
