Aesthetics Autumn Fairy - Robin (Fairyland Feeple60 Moe Alan)

May 15, 2023

    1. A few month ago, I decided to embark on the long-term journey of styling four dolls as seasonal fairies. I assumed I'd start with winter, because I ordered a DikaDoll Krose and he was the inspiration for the whole project. Clearly the title indicates I'm not starting with winter.

I bought a tan Alan sculpt F60-sized head secondhand through a BJD group, and set about searching for a body. While I'd originally planned on making all my fairies boys, I found someone with a tan F60 Moe body who was willing to trade for a doll I just hadn't connected with as well as I'd hoped to. Body acquired, I sent off the head for her face up, scrubbed the hands and feet and stored them in preparation for an MSC-friendly day, and started sorting through my fabric.

This is the fabric I settled on. I'm going to be making an Ionian chiton, as I think the draping of the style + the look of long sleeves will work best for the look I'm going for.

My camera didn't do the best job of capturing the deep purple of the background batik or the metallic threads in the mandala, but the whole thing is very rich, vibrant colors that look amazing against Fairyland tan.

Fabric selected, the next logical step would be to sew the chiton. I have the task capability of the ADHD-inhibited, however, so the next step was actually to tell myself for two weeks that I'd do it tomorrow. My expert procrastination was interrupted by the arrival of a sunny Friday, and my first-ever chance to use MSC.

I want to do a mani/pedi for her with a base of the same gold in the fabric, with the tips a deep purple to match the background. First step: spray my base.

I set up paper on an old fuel tank sitting in what little front yard we have and weighed it down with rocks.

I sprayed a few other parts as well, but we'll focus on the hands and feet for this project. The drum was in the shade and decently out of the wind, so it seemed a safe place for my pieces.

I had to shift the direction I was standing so the breeze would put the MSC actually on the pieces, but soon I had a nice shiny set of resin hands and feet ready to dry!

I stepped away far enough to safely take off my mask, set a timer for 30 minutes, and settled in to wait.

At one point, the clouds shifted and left the tank bathed in sunshine. I'd have glared at the sun for daring, but I like being able to see, so...

After 30 minutes, I put my mask back on, flipped the pieces over, and sprayed the second side.

After another half hour of watching my timer count down, browsing Instagram, and listening to the gossip being shared at my neighbor's patio party, the pieces were done drying and I was ready to go back inside and test my luck. Google and the MSC can both informed me that spraying when it was too cold would cause the MSC to dry with a bit of opacity, but neither told me what actually constitutes "too cold". As someone who lives in Alaska and didn't really want to have to wait three more months before spraying, I decided to hope that the low 40s (Fahrenheit) would be warm enough. Only one way to find out: once inside, I took a picture of one of the hands back on its body.

Success! Any visual differences can pretty easily be attributed to the fact that the hand is now more matte than the arm. Thus, my first MSC experiment came to a close, and I have two pairs of hands and feet that are ready for their mani/pedi.

That was three days ago. I fell down the stairs since then, so it might be a week or two before I do any more work on it, but I'll update when I have more progress.

    2. Oh no! I hope you are ok! It's no fun being injured. :(
This looks like it will be a great project! I love this kind of theme myself. :aheartbea
