are there any other rules? a time limit perhaps.. or materials we can't use? 'cause all i've got is some markers and water colors and i don't want to start this only to come back later and be all "whoops, must use airbrush only" or whatever.

 

There's no strict time limit, but we'll probably close it up Sunday night. Any materials are acceptable. Go for it!

OMG this is an awesome idea for a contest My cat is looking at me a little worried, I think he thinks that I will face-up him! But no, he is too sweet like he is.

But what to faceup......That is the question...

I did a face-up on my guitar. It was pretty weird painting on something other than a doll since I only paint on dolls. It's not really the face-up style I do or like but it's really different and I like it. The close up is so you can see the gloss on the lips and everything was done in water color.

 

I hope it's ok to make another post for this, just tell me if it isn't and I'll put the pics into my other post, but here is my face up...and it's my first lol, next step, do one on a doll xD

Has you can see she even opens up from behind lke a BJD...now all she needs is a wig and eye holes for her eyes xDD

Close ups of the face up of course. It's pretty basic, but I am proud of it :3

 

I decided to give a face up to a soft white light bulb.




and even though you can't see the face on this one, here's a "behind the scenes" type photo. For size reference that is a headless Ange Ai Hani holding the light.



Unfortunately after I took these pictures, I put my lightbulb down and it rolled off of the table and shattered

 

Ms. Petunia Applebottom thinks that everyone is beautiful and would like to remind everyone that you too could be as 'BJD' as the rest of them.. Though she's very worried that she will not find a decent resin match for her luscious green 'resin' tone. ;D
She also must throw in that despite her name.. her bottom is indeed not made of apples.. nor would she care to be eaten.

Aww, these are all so cute! What a great idea! I grabbed a broken clock I've been saving and had some fun with it.


I used pastels, gloss, false eyelashes, and even some Testors Dullcoat...and was reminded why I like MSC more...But also broke one of the "normal" face-up rules and used colored pencils instead of acrylic paint or watercolor pencils.

I can't wait to see the other entries!

My personal goal was to take something round and try to make it as un-round as possible ...using only pastel and paints (oh, and testors), the typical faceup materials C:
The result?
A pretty-fied plate!

I had a lot of fun with this. I present to Truffle: the edible face-up (well... you can't eat the eyes or upper eyelashes, but everything else you can!)!



I didn't see any material requirement, so instead of paints I opted for a sugar cookie, icing, food coloring and sprinkles. The "face-up" dessert didn't last long, though. My husband already ate it...

At least he told me it was delicious!

I tried to get my boyfriend to shave his head so i could use the back of it for a faceup (hes got one of those nice round heads XD)
but he wouldnt have it haha I guess next time

 

Honest Abe gets a Makeover!! (done with color pencils--to soften the harsh shading on his cheeks and wrinkles--and pen--for the added hair and eyelashes and dark blue eyes!).....Not too shabby for my first faceup ever, I guess XD

 

Ol' Abe never looked so good. Just hope the Feds don't get you for defacing US currency. Although actually, you were more "facing" than "de-facing".
